FL University Recruiting Versus the College Powerhouses

For each school below, I have listed the number of states from which they have a player(s) on their roster.  For states represented by 3 or more players on the roster, I have listed the exact number of players.  Some observations:

• The 10 non-Florida universities below have 94 Florida kids on their rosters.
• Relatively speaking, FSU & Miami are not getting as many FL players as their FL counterparts.
• The states of Texas and Georgia(GA Tech has 74 GA players) appear to keep a lot of their better players 
• Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St and Notre Dame have very diverse recruiting geographies.

Ohio State(players from 22 states)-Ohio-52, Florida-12, Texas-7, New York-6, Michigan-4, Maryland-4, New Jersey-4, Tennessee-4

Looked at that way, the Florida schools keep a lot of Florida talent, overall. However, a number of our better players do go out of state. Also interesting is the fact that the schools with broad recruiting geography seem do very well with Alabama being the extreme outlier in that area.

Of last year's top 25 seniors in Florida, 16 went out of state.  Compare that versus Texas, where 18 of their top 25 seniors last year went to a Texas university(including 14 of their top 15).

Prior to 2005, FL universities routinely got 8 or more of the top 10 FL hs players.   That number reached an all-time low this past year, when only 3 of Florida's top 10 chose a FL university.  Some interesting observations:

• In 2002 and 2004, 28 of the top 35 FL hs recruits went to a FL university.  In 2018, 19 of the top 35 did so. 
• In 2001, FSU got an amazing 8 of the top 12 players in the state, including the top 3.  In 2018, FSU got 2 of the top 30(#10 and #20).
