Somewhat real question for a second, but I don't feel like researching it.
    1) I am almost positive the state legislature allows schools to be in multiple associations.
    2) I thought there used to be a requirement that all public schools had to be members of the FHSAA.
    3) I don't think number #2 is true anymore, but even if it was, but as long as #1 is still true why not create a parallel association, where you are independent in the FHSAA (to satisfy any state requirements), and then create the association you want with the rules you want.

    1. They do.
    2. Not anymore.
    3. That is similar to what the SSAC does. Issue would be if you didn't follow the FHSAA rules then you wouldn't be eligible for postseason play, but some schools do it this way and are a part of the SSAC and the FHSAA. Although we probably would benefit from another/bigger association.

I suspect you’ll hear of a few notable smaller programs go independent over the next few weeks, but I’m not sure it’ll be enough to matter.

Just a note that these classifications are not final, as schools have until January 12 to appeal their placement.  Per FHSAA policy, the basis of an appeal could be either a discrepancy in the enrollment count, or geographic isolation (travel) in which case the school could be placed in the next higher classification on a successful appeal.  I seem to remember a time in the old days (or maybe it was in another state) where schools could petition to "play up" for "competitive" reasons.  I guess that's not feasible now, as 60 schools in 1A would elect to play up, leaving Chaminade in a classification all to themselves.

Point being, it's a tattered and broken system that needs revamped, considering 2016 was the last time this specific way of doing things was done....
Fhsaa never let's us down with their forward thinking!  Oops....I mean backward thinking....

Well looks like the fhsaa took care of certain teams they want in the playoffs and stuck the knive in other teams. Fhsaa might have to adjust because their is going to be teams leave which will leave some 2 team’s districts.

Your idea makes wayyyyyyyy too much sense for FHSAA board. They will do nothing and just go back to old model and ignore the recruiting issue as always. Wild west boys, if you want to be great in Florida football, you have to be college recruiters. Go cheat like Winter Park did a few years ago ago and pay some rent and give some $100 handshakes coaches. They got to use the players for the playoffs and only had them suspended for 5 regular season games. That was an obvious cheating rewarded. So you think FHSAA is actually going to stop the transfer recruiting. What a farce.

Just checkout a couple years ago when a ton of Lake Gibson's starters transferred out to another program after being runner ups at state. They were already at a super successful program and bam  recruited to another and gone.

Sure. Just take a picture of all the state champions in the metro division and a few of the suburban rosters. and see how many players came from other schools or were supposed to go to other schools. They all recruit. Illegal thus a form of cheating. In order to be an elite team in Florida, you must get elite talent and the only way is to break the rule and recruit. Or you can bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and say that does not in our state.

I've been looking at this all day and trying to figure out the best way to respond.  Here it is!
I strongly disagree with the statement that these schools weren't anything prior to 2006, with the lone exception of MC.  They were known for being the rockets that couldn't lift off, and anyone with knowledge of Dade football would certainly agree.  Dade has long been a county where players "follow" coaches, lol.  Now it's Central's turn.
American Heritage (Plantation), not to be confused American Heritage (Delray), did make one finals appearance to the tune of a 30-13 drubbing by NFC during the Eagles' run in the 90's.
Chaminade may have only won 2 titles between 1963-2016, but they have been to the finals 4 times in that same span.
Now I'm hardly one to defend the Raiders but in this situation, to say the Raiders were nothing prior to 2006 is laughable at best.  First, I have to guess you made a slight error in saying that the Raiders only won 3 state championships from 1963-2007 as I know you keep stats on damn near everything, lol.  Now if you had stopped at 2006 you would be correct but including 2007 actually gives them 4.  For the sake of discussion we'll stop at 2006.  One very important detail that you left out is the fact that when STA embarked on one of the best comebacks in FHSAA history in the 2006 finals, this was the Raider's 10th trip to the big dance.  YES, for the people in the back in the room.  10 times! (91, 92, 96, 97, 99, 00, 01, 04, 05, 06).  I would hardly call a program that goes the the finals 10 times in a 16 years nothing.  To put it in perspective, from to 1963-2006, STA was 3-7 and Hillsborough County was 5-9 during that same period.  Secondly, although Lakeland gets notoriety for the amount of times they not only defeated STA but done so in overwhelming fashion, I'd be remiss to not mention the "OTHER" schools that gave the Raiders lumps, bruises and heartaches: (1991 FWB (39-14), 2000 Pine Forest 34-27 (3OT), 2001 Lincoln (28-20).
Beginning in 2007, the Raiders have gone 12-1 (Thank Lakeland for that lone loss) in the Finals and regardless of how reclassification goes, you can bet the Raiders will find a way to get there.
STA, Chaminade and AH have matured into the inevitability of their "program building".  That was going to happen with or without Lakeland as Broward (much like Duval) is revered for their private schools and the public schools are, well, anyway....  A special round of applause goes to the FHSAA for making it easier than ever to moonwalk to the show.

Super teams meaning teams with multiple impact D1 transfers that no one can compete with outside of other super teams. So back in the day, Lakeland used to beat STA’s head in like a baby seal to the tune of 4 titles and a 5-1 overall postseason record against STA from 1996-2006.

After 2006, STA said NO MAS!!!!! The South Florida teams started stockpiling talent at break neck speed starting with Miami Northwestern. With a collection of future college and NFL talent MNW wins the high school national title.

Then in 2008, STA loaded at every position with a Broward County All Star team, crushes Lakeland and wins the first of their 2 national titles in 3 years.

STA from 1963-2007 won 3 state championships. Then after stocking super teams, they proceed to win 12 state championships from 2008-2023.

Miami Central from 1964-2009 a grand total of ZERO state championships. From 2010-2023 they win NINE titles!!!
Chaminade from 1964-2016 they win 2 titles. From 2017-2023 they win 6!!

American Heritage won zero from 1981-2012 and then 4 titles since.

These are the 4 top teams in Florida the last decade by far. None of these teams were anything before 2006. You can say STA won 3 but that is in 35 years compared to winning 12 of the last 16.

And it’s all thanks to Lakeland

That's essentially what I want to happen, but the problem with your place as a starting point is the a school like Chaminade-Madonna still is wrecking havoc in 3A instead of 2A and would take 3-4 more years to eventually get to the level that they should be at (assuming that you would allow a team to go to from 2A to 3A to 4A to etc). If not, all you really did is move the teams that most likely could beat a juggernaut 2A or 3A team out of the classification.

The other reason this system is imbalanced in terms of classification size is that the talent gap between 1-75 is too big vs the gap between say 320-448 (128 teams) is smaller because all of those teams struggle. Just to use my above classifications of a 1 vs 64 you are talking STA vs Dunbar (Ft Myers) vs if you shrink the gap it is STA vs Naples.

Your idea works if we didn't have years and years of data at our finger tips already, but we do and as such should use that data to make a better system.

Imagine this: Let's say a really good program has been coming close but hasn't won a championship in their respective class yet. Then finally they got the team that just might win it, but by chance the computer ranks then 32 in the state. I for one would find that unfair. Especially if my team was 5a or 4a.

I was in 10th grade in 1989 and remember that season like it was yesterday.  This was our district and records - 8 team district and only the district champ got to go to the playoffs.  We had a 4 way tie that was determined by Kansas City tiebreaker.
    Hardee 8-2
    Desoto 8-2
    Okeechobee 8-2
    Avon Park 7-3
    Sebring 6-4
    Lake Wales 4-6
    Haines City 2-8
    Mulberry 1-9
Avon Park ended up winning the tiebreaker.

Not just Lakeland but they aren’t playing any good teams from anywhere. The only reason they won a title last year was because the FHSAA went from a state title format to an area title format. Lake Wales was the best of the suburbs.
