Agree. Harmony plays Southeast this week and is on the bubble for 7A playoffs. A victory over SE (Cat 2) could have put them over the top, but now it likely won't matter. Nothing Harmony did wrong, other than schedule a school that had to forfeit it's games the last week of the season. Win or lose, they have lost 10 potential points on the last week of the season. Same with Hardee, who actually beat SE on the field of play. While they still will make the playoffs based on district win, the have lost seeding and potential home games on the last week of the season.
FHSAA has to figure something else out on this.
I like the intention of the points system. I just think it was implemented too quickly and without alot of forethought for these type of situations.

Good analysis, as a Vero fan for over 30+ years and as a former player, Vero has a good team this year, but they have been in this exact position many times, lofty record heading into the playoffs, only to be derailed once they play a team of their caliber or better.
in my opinion, Vero's problem again this season will be how they handle the adversity once they go down by 1, 2 or even 3 TD's, its been a while since the Oscar Smith, Pahokee games and nobody has really challenged them since. Viera had Vero down and had it not been for the 7 turnovers, would have beat them.
If this years Vero team is truly different, they will fight back once down to the likes of Osceola, DP, etc, rather that how they have handled it in years past.

Your assessment is a good one. VB has two things going for it this year. 1. Overall, as you pretty much said, the team is probably a bit better than it has been the past four or five years. 2. While there are several good 8A teams in both the North and South brackets that will extend VB, there is no one team that is a clear cut favorite against them.
At this stage, going into the playoffs, I would assess VB's chances to be as good as any of the other 8A teams considered State contenders. Will they win it all? Only time will tell.

As a Vero fan for the past 10 years I would like to give a honest opinion of this years team since it seems there is either cynicism or hysteria when describing there chances. This offense is different then in years past were we have relied on one really good WR and a bunch of secondary receivers this year we have no clear cut #1. We have used Dixon better than years past under coach J who I Felt had abandoned the run in a lot of games to throw more. Most seasons it seems our offense started the year really well and didn’t really progress any and relied on 5-7 plays continually until the playoffs were we found a defense that stopped our one big threat and keyed in on favorite plays and shut us down...Defense is where I believe this years team is different. In years past we’ve had a bend don’t break defense that relied on our offense to help put pressure on opponents offense to keep scoring. This years defense is the best front to back we’ve had under coach J..Reese up front Johnson in the middle and Granville in the secondary makes Veros defense a strength not a weak link..special teams under coach J has been good and bad we always seem to have a good kicker our punter is usually subpar and our punt and kickoff teams have been BAD! This year special team units phenomenally better than in years past. This coaching staff and team have also done a better job of dominating the teams they should and have beat good teams while not playing there best. I’m not gonna crown them but I would not bet against Vero at home first of all and this year I feel like we have a better chance against the Dr. Phillips and Miramar’s in 8a then in the past!

Vero has a shot this year. But if fans look at Krop, they are missing the big picture. If and when Vero knocks off Osceola and/or Dr. Phillips, then we will be in a much better position to determine where Vero stands in the State Championship picture.

IMG game was a bit different. After the STA game it was clear we did not compete with those guys. They were bigger faster stronger and in the end better.
IMG was the same way only at a higher level. We did compete for 3 plus QT then one play caused the wheels to fall off. End score of 38-12 looked bad. The two 4th QT TDS made that a fact. They would have won the game in the end but does 24-12 sound better than 38-12?
Either way shoot your bullets never leave them in the gun.

Anyone can get hurt getting off the bus star players or not. If they got hurt it was just their time.
If you have players hurt already then resting them makes sense. I don't like the resting a healthy guy to keep him from injury idea.

I believe Hunter Pingston senior year was 2002.  We played them in the KOC.  Rockledge won a state title in 2001 his junior year

From memory so I may be off some on the years.
Rockledge won states in the late 1990 and early 2000. Melbourne was the first to win state in the late 60's then Titusville right after. MI had their trun and Palm Bay then Rockledge and now we are here. Cocoa has their hands full with Viera so I have a feeling MCC and Viera are not far away from a championships.
I will go to the FHSAA when I get a little time tonight and put the years in.

Cocoa threw some pretty passes tonight, one for a TD, but Hawkins was a man on fire. Must have had 150 yards or more to add to his 1,350 that he already has against some decent talent this year. Pahokee has some very good players, but couldn't contain Cocoa's pass rush. Cocoa looks hungry, like man hunters. Hopefully Rockledge can give the Tigers a game next week like Viera did at the beginning of the season. All I can say is Cocoa played well tonight and looked like they could hang with the best in the state.
I still like AHP, STA, and IMG, but feel like Cocoa is special this season.

If stats are your thing Leto has given up 436 points this season while scoring 12 in 8 games.
Windermere has only scored 7 points total in 9 games.

Rockledge would beat Pahokee just as bad as you guys did. TC, Mainland (6-4) are both in down years so yeah they could beat them. Bartram Trail(6-3) I don't know much about, guessing solid team just like Trinity and Mainland but with the athletes Rockledge has they would big-play them all to wins.
Cocoa has played a bunch of very solid but not great teams. Viera was their only big win and that should have been won by Viera 2-3 times. Cocoa usually goes out of state and plays a Bishop Gorman ect.. but not this year.
Totally agree Rockledge schedule except for Viera and Osceola is below average, Doesn't mean they don't have the talent to play with Cocoa. Big edge to Cocoa in coaching, but with the switch of Corbin to QB at least Younger and staff are improving on using their weapons appropriately.

Ok, so looking back. The closest somewhat recent was 2009, 14-0 Cocoa or 2007, 17-7 Cocoa. The last time Rockledge won was 2005, 22-12.

Bamarod reacted to gwdrum75 in Kathleen at Lakeland -7A-7 District Championship
One positive for Lakeland is the defense. This was supposed to be their weakness this season losing 10 starters from last year's team. But, they have been good from game one. Kathleen had a few big plays last night, but Lakeland really controlled that side of the ball all night. They had Kathleen in long yardage situations all night from sacks and tackles for loss. The one big play Kathleen had was a 50+ yard run, down to the 1 yard line. Lakeland forced them to kick a field goal after backing them up with tackles behind the line.
I think the offense will be ok. They have just had a couple of games where the QB and WR's are a little off, along with a couple of dropped scoring passes. And when you have a RB that has the potential to take it the distance on every play, I think they be ok.
They have 2 weeks now to prepare for whoever their first round opponent will be and get a few key O-Line starters back from injury.

Cocoa must be on a IMG level. From what I saw, some of those players looked super natural.
I was really surprised how they dominated. Pahokee actually looked like a rural 1A team last night.
