C'mon Peezy, since 1980 Canes and Gators have each had only 2 losing regular seasons...not that bad.  You jus worried they gonna do away with the backpack if things don't work out right this year.  Maybe they could try this next year instead.  LOL

Well I won't talk about high school... I have seen more of them than I am willing to count including my Junior and Senior year where I played on a team that won 1  game in 2 years (although Sr year we were at least competitive in all but 1 game.

    Update on Michael.
    Panama City  major damage.
Mexico Beach- almost completely wiped out.
    PSJ- 75 percent destroyed
Franklin County- Apalachicola extremely bad, St George Island and East Point major devastation.
Pray for our area.  I evacuated but hundreds stayed and many have not been heard from. i fear the loss of life is going to be very high.

Michael is a devastating storm. I pray that the loss of life will be minimal and that survivors will get the help they need to pick up the pieces.
But for the grace of God ...

Really sad to see and hear. Really wish the games were kept under control better and the kids and coaches had enough sense just let things go. I coached for a long time and never had an issue like this. I understand you get heated, but for a game to end in a brawl is just unacceptable. Someone needs to be made an example of. If not, then expect these things to continue to happen. 15-17 year old kids getting into a fight in an organized HS sporting event is just embarassing for the school and the sport.

Louisville has the TD/turnover gloves and belt.  Maybe these teams should consider.

There's a reason Rockledge and Cocoa high schools have such a fierce rivalry and it can all be traced back to turf. The current Rockledge High School building was actually Cocoa High School at one time. Yes, Cocoa High School was in Rockledge and then moved to its current location. Once Cocoa high moved, Rockledge high took its place.   Cocoa High School was at the Rockledge location until 1970 and moved into its new facility because of capacity issues

As I stated in a game update last night, Cocoa's defense is giving up a lot of points (27 points/game/average).  If they get a 4A semi rematch with University this year, it could be a shooting match.

4ARaines(5-1) had to come from behind to edge 8ASandalwood(4-2) 20-14.  What a difference compared to last year, when Raines won 55-20.
Raines 3-star RB Brandon Marshall became Raines' career rushing record holder, breaking DeJaun Green's old record of 2938 yards.

Some of these rivalry games attracted huge crowds, even back in the Stone Ages.  Fort Lauderdale High and Stranahan first met in 1958.  Beginning in 1968, the game was played on Thanksgiving Day/Eve.  In 1969, with the score tied 15-15, a standing-room crowd of 11,000 watched as Fort Lauderdale High`s Benny LaChance intercepted a Stranahan pass and scrambled out of bounds with three seconds left.  A personal foul gave Fort Lauderdale the ball on the Stranahan 34-yard line. Fort Lauderdale quarterback Al Alvarez scrambled to his left and connected with his receiver as time expired to win 21-15. It was the final game of the `69 season, the victory giving Fort Lauderdale (10-0) its first undefeated season.  Fort Lauderdale then lost in the playoffs  14-6 to Miami Jackson.

Blountstown/Port St Joe -72 meetings between Blountstown and Port St. Joe since 1950. The Tigers hold a 38-32-2 edge in the series during that span.
75% of games decided by a touchdown or less

Update with Evans and Colonial. I just finished the compete history for Colonial.
They played Evans every year from 1959-1992.
Colonial's record by years against Evans
    (1959-1975) Colonial went 14-2-1
    (1976-1992) Colonial went 1-14
(1993-2017) Colonial and Evans only played twice. In 2007 and 2008 in which Evans won.
So Colonial went 15-20-1 vs Evans

I went to Cocoa at Mainland tonight. Very good game to watch. Cocoa has better looking talent & played well. Bucs have a good Defense but were on the field all night & got gassed late. Bucs Oline is turrrible. Great kicker though. Hit from 36, 42, killed a punt inside the 10, kickoffs were right on the goal line. In 2nd half he was in his own end zone and the snap bounced 5 yds short - he still got off a beauty of a punt. Early 4th qtr it was 34-27 Tigers, final was 44-27 Cocoa.

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Floridatech in Why Vero Beach will win states this year
Vero has not been terribly successful running the ball...
    Venice-22 carries for 48 yards
Dr Krop 15 carries for 77 yards
Pahokee 26 carries for 78 yards
Centennial 29 carries for 70 yards
I cannot see them winning a state title without more consistent balance on offense.  If they make it to the state final, I suspect they will face a very tough defense that will pin their ears back if Vero is one dimensional.
