Hard to make the argument that he should be leading and shaping high school-aged young men.

I agree. He turned the DP program around, I give him credit for that. But many of the things that have dogged him since seem, to me, to be self inflicted wounds and may be indicative of a temperament that is not fit for being a HBC.

Was he at Deland back in the day as well, or am I imagining that?

Yes, he took Deland to its only state title appearance after leaving Dp. They lost to Miramar in the finals.

Pettis attended Rutherford HS back in the late 1980s where he was a two year letterman.
