Quiz-The Most Dominating Defense

This team has had(arguably) the most dominating overall defensive performance of any program in the state series during the past 25 years.  During this time, this team has made multiple title game appearances and in playoff games during those title run seasons, they held their opponents to one TD or less in 70% of the games.  In 2 of those title game appearances, they held each of their opponents to less than 100 yards of total offense and 7 or fewer first downs.   In all of its playoff games over the past 25 years, this team has recorded 7 shutouts.

Who is the team?

Carol City

Carol City has played in 4 state title games over the past 25 years(1997, 1997, 2003, 2016), and won each time.  In those 4 games, they gave up a total of 30 points.  In the 20 playoff games they played those years, they held their opponents to 1 TD or less in 14 of the games.   For some perspective, Northwestern, who has a pretty good D, has given up 58 points in their past 4 title games and in 20 playoff games those title years held their opponents to 1 TD or less in 3 of the games.

Very few teams have held a state final opponent to less than 100 yards of total offense.  Carol City has done it twice in the past 15 years, something no other team can claim.  In their 13-0 win against Edgewater in 2003, their defense gave up only 93 yards of offense and 7 first downs.  In their 14-6 win against Lake Gibson in 2016, their defense gave up only 89 total yards of offense and 5 first downs.   That included only 19 net rushing yards in 26 carries.

Good job Bocefous!:)

How close was Cocoa to this, if you know?

Cocoa gave up 59 points in its last 5 title games.  Below are the offensive yards given up in those contests.

2008 152 yards  vs Godby

2009  331 yards  vs Glades Central

2010 270 yards  vs Glades Central

2016 234 yards  vs Bolles

2017 153 yards  vs Raines

In the 25 playoff games they played during those years, they held opponents to one TD or less 9 times.

    • When you right you right fam. At the end of the day. Anybody in dade, broward or palm beach know bout Dillard and know we don’t duck no team home or away. We down to line up any day.    but none of that puts points on the score board or guarantee victory. You can be ready and confident all you want, but if your team doesn’t have the personnel to match a national power house who gets in loads of transfers year and year out, 9/10 that score is going to be fairly lopsided.    and as much as I bleed Dillard day and night, and as much as it pains me to say. Dillard is not in Miami central, norland, sta, or chaminades league going into the this upcoming season. Let them beat up on each other.    I believe this is a perfect schedule for Dillard if they’re atleast still an above avg program they should win this district with ease and have no more then 2 loses this year.    if not and they struggle even with this schedule then Dillard as a program is most def going backwards and I would hate that for my Alma mater.
    • I agree with you on everything you said. Why play these powerhouses and get the butt kicked out of you. Yes you're not running away from good opponents, however what does a 63-0 loss due to the morale of a bunch of young men.
    • Welcome to the new wonderful wild west of high school football in Florida. We need to create a new position at each school. Recruiting coordinator. Because that is the only way to win big in this state now at the highest levels. The haves can turn into have not by losing one cheater coach.
    • There are zero coaches on campus, every single coach left
    • There is 1,750 kids in the school. That would be their fault if they can’t field a team of 40-50 players. I know it sucks about the mass exodus. I get it. But even though they won’t be competitive for the time being they should at least have enough varsity players returning, JV kids, and newcomers to field a team.    They should have had an assist at coach resume spring workouts, and maybe got in on a jamboree with lesser teams or held an inter squad scrimmage. But to cancel everything seems a bit erratic
