Dunedin-In both 1986 and 1987, the Falcons made it to the 5A state finals, losing each time at their home field (in 1986 to Lakeland and in 1987 to Pine Forest).  Each year they beat Carol City in the state semifinals…one of those years in Miami.  Dunedin has only won 2 of 8 playoff games since.

Englewood-In 1998, the Rams of Jacksonville won their only playoff game in school history, a 20-18 4A victory over Ribault.

Hollywood Hills-In 1973, the Spartans won the 4A title 22-9 over Raines in Fort Lauderdale. Hills has won only 5 of 18 playoff games since. They won that title under Dick Saltrick, a great coach who passed away in 2014.

Miami Beach-The Hi Tides played in the 1974 4A final in Tallahassee against Leon and legendary coach Gene cox, where they lost 20-9.  They have never won a playoff game since.

Miami Jackson-Jackson’s claim to fame is hard luck.  Over the past 50 years, they have made it to 4 state semifinals, losing all of those games by a total of 16 points. 3 of those 4 games were played in the past 20 years.  In 1998, in one of the most famous games in south FL history, known as Soul Bowl 2, the Generals lost to Northwestern 15-14 in a crazy ending in which the game was virtually over and fans had thought Jackson had won.

Middleburg-In 2003, the Broncos won their only playoff game in playoff history, beating Palatka 54-28.

Moore Haven-2017 marked only the second year in the past 50 that the Terriers have won a playoff game.  They beat Glades Day 42-35.  In 1997, Moore Haven made it to the 2A state semifinals.

Northeast(Fort Lauderdale)-Northeast has won only 4 playoff games in its entire school history.  In 2010, the Hurricanes shocked Miramar 21-12 in the second round of the 6A playoffs.

Pompano Beach-Pompano Beach has only won one playoff game in school history. In 1976, the Golden Hurricanes won a controversial 14-9 victory over a loaded Chaminade team that featured Don Shulas’s oldest son, David, and former NFL player Bill Capece. Northeast lost a nailbiter to state finalist Carol City 22-20 in the second round.

Rockledge- In a 2001 3A regional final in Belle Glade, Glades Central came in ranked #1 in the class and #5 in the nation by USA Today and had a 47-game winning streak.  A crowd of over 6000 saw #2-ranked Rockledge shock the 3-time defending state champs and snap the streak.  Rockledge then went on to win back-to-back 3A titles.

St Petersburg-In 1984, the Green Devils traveled to Pensacola, where they lost the 3A final to Escambia 47-14.  They have only won 2 of 12 playoff games since.

Satellite-In 1987, the Scorpions won their only playoff game in school history in a 21-14 4A victory over Middleburg.

Sebring-In 1999, the Blue Streaks won their only playoff game over the past 50 years, a 21-19 3A victory over Winter Haven.

Tarpon Springs-In 1986, the Spongers lost a heartbreaker to Dillard at home in the 4A final.  Ever since, Tarpon Springs has struggled, winning only 5 playoff games in 22 tries.

Vanguard-In the 1994 5A final, the Knights lost a 19-17 heartbreaker to defending champion Bradenton Southeast.  Although they have won a number of playoff games since, they have never gotten close to winning it all again.

I think Tarpon Springs may have gotten to the third round in 2008 or 2009 losing to Edgewater at Edgewater. The following week Edgewater lost to Niceville at home. In the state title game, Niceville got creamed by Palm Beach Dwyer which was loaded!

It was 2009...what must have been an especially traumatic year for a young ColumbiaFan.  While his Tigers were losing to Lincoln in Lake City in a regional semi, his beloved Gainesville Hurricanes were losing in another regional semi in Tarpon Springs.
