Over the past 10 seasons...

# playoff wins - Gainesville-15; Columbia 10

# times advanced past second round of playoffs - Gainesville-5; Columbia 2

I guess if the argument is that Gainesville is not one of the better teams in the state(and worthy of mention in a list of quality wins by an opponent), Columbia has even less of a case

Except head to head matters

If Gainesville is not that hot to trot, besting them in head-to-head really does not prove that much in the big scheme of things

Your right it doesn't

Beating Gainesville does basically nothing to prove columbia is a power

If it wasn't a rivalry it would hold as much weight as most games on the regular season schedule

Columbia problem is winning games in postseason, they have proven they fully capable of winning plenty of regular season games, especially against local teams

Why are you trying to discredit that Gainesville team.  They were actually very good that year.  Oh wait I know why.  They beat Columbia and then Columbia choked in the third round and didn't get a rematch vs Gainesville in the state semi's.  Gainesville steam rolled Navarre who beat Columbia the week before.

Here a list of some of the teams

You really think that Gainesville team beats these teams???

You can try and make it a issue of bias but facts are Gainesville don't stack up with any of these teams

MNW

CC

BTW

Columbus

STA

Cardinal Gibbons

Chaminade

Mainland

Armwood

Dallas Madison

Prattville

Elder, Ohio

Don Bosco

Hoover

Bishop Gorman

Stephenson

 AHP

Most those teams listed are NATIONAL powers!

Gainesville is not!

In 2012, Gainesville finished #57 nationally in Maxpreps...and #6 in FL.  The question is not whether Gainesville is a perennial national power.  The question is whether a victory over the 2012 Gainesville team is worthy of mention in a list of quality wins for Central, and I say it absolutely is.  That Gainesville team beat very good Madison County and Navarre teams.

Research the 2012 performance of the teams on your list and you will find that most of them were not national powers in 2012.  And Gainesville would have had a reasonable chance of beating the majority of those teams that year.  Central smoked Northwestern and Carol City in 2012 and both of those teams finished with 3 or more losses.  Chaminade, Cardinal Gibbons, and AHP are all relatively new on the national scene.  Prattville was 5-4 in 2012 and Elder was 8-4.  Mainland was 9-4 in 2012 and had 3 losses of 20 points or more.  Columbus was 9-5 and lost to Central.   etc, etc.  Other than Central, on that list, St Thomas, Booker T, Don Bosco, Bishop Gorman and Hoover would have been clear favorites over Gainesville that year.  ..the rest on the list...no.

I only took a smaller sample size of the list posted by @MC Rockets

There was no specific years for those teams

In fact none of the lists were specific years, they were just overviews of big wins from recent years

Wasn't 2012 also the year Columbus played STA?

Columbia and Vero Beach seem to have the same issue.

When MC Rockets made his list, I'd be willing to bet that he had some specific years in mind for each team listed.  For instance, Hallandale is not a perennial power, but like Gainesville, has had some strong years.  One must do their homework before discounting a victory as significant.  As you know, there are many teams who only occasionally produce a team that is a powerhouse.  If Central had beaten a 5-5 Gainesville team during the regular season, I doubt he would have included them on his list as a notable victory.

To both those teams credit even for quick exits they both are among some of highest percentage in state of teams making playoffs

There are schools out there been around over 50 years and haven't won a single playoff game

Speaking of which, @OldSchoolLion I have a suggestion for one of your future research projects, I'm curious what is some of the oldest schools in state that have either never won a playoff game or have no appearances in playoffs

I'm curious if the list is as large as I'm thinking it is

what year lol.  Those are all great programs and no Gainesville isn't in the same breath as those on that list but in 2012 they would have beaten MNW, CC, Armwood, Mainland, Cardinal Gibbons, Columbus, AHP and Chaminade.  Stop hating.

Miami Central beat some of those teams multiple years

Yeah they may have because none of the teams you listed above were having strong years in 2012

If you want the years for the teams I'll go get them

didn't see this before I posted.  Columbiafan is just a hater because it's Gainesville.  They were really good that year.  So good that Columbia lost to them in the regular season.  We all know this is tough to do.  Not many beat Columbia in the regular season.  The playoffs, that's a different story.

only speaking about 2012 and Columbus and Northwestern were not better than Gainesville in 2012.  Once again you are a hater.  Just admit 2012 Gainesville was a really good team.

@MC Rockets did a general list

Not every team was in same year so no it isn't just restricted to 2012
