Kowboys defense controlled the game all night with a better performance than the last couple of weeks. Will skip getting into the weeds regarding the game, but Vero couldn't have managed more than 100-150 total yards for the game. Actually, could have been even more lopsided than the final score. Props to #1 Jacobs of Vero as he played his tail off and I can see why he is so highly regarded; he really didn't do much offensively, but defensively he had several important pass breakups that if he wasn't making those plays it would have been a rout early. They just didn't have enough players like him to match up with the Kowboys. Now on to the re-match with Lakeland we have been anticipating since the 3rd game of the season.

Tonight I attended my 13th Regional Championship Final with my alma mater Mainland High School. I've now witnessed 8 region title wins and 5 losses since 1998. And the opponent Jenson Beach was, without question, the weakest third playoff round team I've ever seen. Unless a dozen starters or so missed the bus to the stadium, how did they win 10 games ? They were small, slow, and not particularly athletic. When the members of "3 Suburban" were first announced many thought it appeared very thin with quality playoff contenders. Nothing I've seen so far has changed my mind on the subject. Mainland next plays at Ft Myers Dunbar and Lake Wales host Columbia High from Lake City. In two weeks one of these survivor's will be a state champ. Why not Mainland ? Buc Forever.

21-20. Final Hawthorne. The interception in the first quarter on 3rd and 1 at the 2 yard line was the difference (to me). 2 more first half turnovers (pick 6) and muffed punt led to 14 points. Pahokee fought back in the 4th to cut it to 1, but got stopped on 4th and 4 (pass batted down at the line) ended any real threat. Hawthorne’s fans (some, not all) were classless, cursing at the Pahokee players as they were leaving the field. Good game, overall

Columbus's record looks better than they do on video. Despite the great showing against Central, I see chinks in their armor. Unfortunately, I am not sure if we have the horses to properly exploit them. If Seminole had remained injury free and in peak form as they were early in the season, I would have actually given them a great chance to beat Columbus. As for Ocoee, they have made a wonderful playoff run on the road. I think they will give Columbus an early scare and a good game, but they may just come up short. Great season for them, though. Prior to this year, I am not sure whether they had won a playoff game, though they have made the playoffs before.

Great win for the Bucs, Dan. Happy for them. I think they have as good a chance as any of the other three teams to win it all. I am not a huge favorite of the new, Metro/Suburban breakdown and would much rather see a promotion/relegation system which would be more honest and would give programs with bigger aspirations the chance to step up their competition over time. Central and east Central Florida is well represented in the semis with teams from Volusia, Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Polk still in the hunt. On to next week!!

Don't remember seeing this, but please refresh my fading memory. Adjusting enrollment numbers a little may be in order : 4M vs 4S 3M vs 3S 2M vs 2S 1M vs 1S All eight teams above are "Champions" either Metro or Suburban Champions. But the four game winners are "Florida State Champions." All the older gentlemen out there remember pro football's AFL and NFL's separate championships. The FHSAA could add the four "Super Bowls" and many of our differences with the brackets would go away. Food for thought. Pardon me if this dead horse has already been buried. It's new to me

Mainland vs Columbia in State Cocoa vs FSU in State Osceola vs Venice in State With the Central Florida teams bringing home the title

It is now possible for central & AH to play for all the marbles which I predicted. Homestead & STA can play for a state championship as well as columbus & apopka. It will be a movie in ft lauderdale come next month if all these matchups happen.

Thanks, actually, we travel to Palm Beach Central and Ocoee travels to Columbus. We would have only gotten Ocoee if Doral had upset Columbus which was not going to happen. I am fine with the PBC matchup. Would have preferred if Palm Beach Gardens had beaten them as they would have had to travel to Apopka. But I think Apopka, if it plays at its best, has a very good chance against PBC.

Get it done!! I think this rematch will be an epic one.

Tough loss for Pahokee. Sorry to see your season end.

Should be fun this coming week.
