Hwy17 got a reaction from Nulli Secundus in Football Advisory Committee items
Failure by the FHSAA to really address the issues of smaller schools is why the SSAC is growing. Sorta like NAIA is becoming a better option for smaller colleges than NCAA.

Hwy17 reacted to LakelandGator in Football Advisory Committee items
Glades Day is a 7x Champ, Jupiter Christian is a 2x champ, NSU was a 3A Champ, Oxbridge and Warner Christian were powerhouses at one time.
The SSAC will have 10 new member schools next year and the FHSAA has growing dissent that will probably get worse.
Keep an eye on the SSAC over the next 5 years.

Hwy17 reacted to 181pl in New FHSAA rankings out
FHSAA has not gotten this right in years. It’s not rocket science or brain surgery. It’s high school football. It’s simple numbers.
The root of the problem is too many classes. We do not need nine classes in Florida. We need six classes. We could go to seven if you wanted to separate private schools (4 public classes and 3 private classes). This would allow for large districts and/or large regions in each class. District records or Regional records would determine playoffs (if fhsaa wanted to scrap the district model). Plain and simple. Also, the fhsaa should come up with a way to get more participation so there are less independent schools. I think over 600 schools play football in FLA but only 500 or so participate in classes.

So what's the point of having the district championship then?? Lol

Thanks to all. I never thought at week 10 with 1 game to go Poinciana would be sitting 7-2. I am only a small part of how all of this happened. Coaches and players all working together and believing in the system. Unfortunately we are just now finally hitting on all cylinders. With the season winding down. The game we played last night was the most complete game we have played as a team. All facets of the game worked well. Hardee is no slouch, they are a well disciplined and expertly put together team. All of the things that have gone wrong for us in the past went right for a change. This was the best officiated game I have been in all year. Big shout out to Gulf coast football officials association. (and no, all the penalties didn't go against the other team)
The bowl game is set for Wednesday 11/9/2022 at Poinciana High school vs St. Cloud High School
This game will be a very tough one for us. But we really need to play them to see where we are as a team.
First we must beat Liberty Friday night. 15 years loosing this rivalry hopefully will come to an end.
I must also thank my administration for believing in the process. When they hired me I told them this was going to be a long process. This year being my 4th, I am now the longest tenured coach in the schools history. I feel we are still in the beginning process of this. One good year doesn't fix anything. But it is a heck of a start. We hit rock bottom last year having kicked all our seniors off the team. The kids who came in this year came with a great attitude. They are coach-able. They are good students and most of all great leaders.

We played Hardee tonight. Poinciana 49 Hardee 14 Very appreciative of the game. Spoke to the head coach afterwards. We are considering a return trip next year as well.

only band and athletics are competitive. Shouldn't the waiver be based on academics (which is the preface of the law) instead of competition?

If you combined the current Region 1 Districts 3 and 4 in class 3S, Columbia would be grouped with some combination of Middleburg, Orange Park, Ridgeview, Clay, Gainesville, Matanzas, Menendez, and St. Augustine. Not exactly a list of powerhouse programs. And yes, every other you would have to take 2 road trips of about 2 hours each. But all your scheduling problems are solved. Larger districts are not that hard, but I give up. Let's put our faith in a computer algorithm which no one can explain.

I’d like to know the last time they was an eight or nine team district in Tampa? seems like you have a whimsical and uninformed opinion on this. And how would you know who was ranked and where the last time there was an 8 or 9 team district in Tampa, which was probably before you were born.

Excellent post. Plant has 2 losses. One score to Tech, state finalist. 2 scores to another state finalist. You’d hope these losses don’t come back to haunt them. they beat alonso and they’re out right district champs so no big deal. If they don’t be Allonzo, that will be three losses on the year so their playoff qualifications would come into doubt or if they do qualify they probably qualify as one of the last seeds. Can’t help tech on the schedule, that’s a team they play often so it is what it is. I don’t know why they would’ve played Berkeley. They would’ve been much better off playing another 4M team in their region as this gives a truer test and should help in determining the best teams in the respective class and region.
Course all this nonsense is moot if we were just to have larger districts; seven teams? And the top two in district qualify and there are no questions. at least in the larger classifications and especially in metro.

Nick Miner, two way player and East River's starting QB, lost his life when the vehicle he was driving was hit by another on an unlit East Orange County road.
My deepest condolences to his: family, teammates and friends.
Sudden loss of life is always tragic. It is especially so when it involves a teenager.

Hwy17 got a reaction from KeemD321 in Get rid of districts
Maybe but something has to give. Hardee was one time in a district with Cocoa Beach so long trips for district play isn't unprecedented. Any district with Key West means a long bus ride.

Hwy17 reacted to Ray Icaza in 2022 Schedules
Transfers that improve any team are a sign of the times. Some top quality players transfer to play for winning programs and get better exposure. Other good players that are backups or become backups transfer to other teams for playing time and also some recognition by getting on the field. This is all understandable and allowed. However, to openly boast that your school won a recruiting battle for a missing piece (QB) on the offensive side against another rival involved in the same recruiting effort seems to enforce the notion that all top schools cheat. Then to take it a step further and tell Venice they will have to "TAKE" some of the better players from other schools clearly violating the rules is not good advice no matter how important winning is. Maybe some forum members will admire your honesty, all the while giving your program a black eye.

Hwy17 reacted to Dr. D in Get rid of districts
I realize that scheduling philosophies differ for schools in different situations; flexibility is certainly beneficial. As far as 3 districts per region, the numbers currently support 12 districts of 5-6 teams each. I would prefer more head-to-head district games to identify the most deserving playoff teams, rather than trusting computer algorithms. As a side note, the districts in the larger classifications in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee generally have 6-8 teams.
