So far I've identified 17 schools that will be in 2A suburban class in my part of the state. Most of these schools are on par with each other. Will be interesting if the districts make this the same region.  Those 17 are:
Lakeland Christian, Tenoroc, Discovery, Mulberry, Frostproof, Fort Meade, Avon Park, Lake Placid, Hardee, Desoto, Bradenton Bayshore, Sarasota Booker, Lemon Bay, Bishop Verot, Clewiston, LaBelle, Estero.

They had two members from Lee county. The second one voted for it. Deciding vote. No one has told us why they changed it from last years plan at all. It does not affect my school but Seminole county got bussed. I am sure the creators wanted no part of Seminole HS in 4A suburb.  Lee county schools are bad at football so lets go with Population density. Real nice. I get why the suburb wanted out and don't blame them.  They just did not worry about how 85% of the metro schools will get crushed by new plan and did not care. Next change will be move teams up and down within metro and suburbs with a success and playoff multiplier. Move the super teams up divisions and down who don't have success and they can salvage this dumpster fire move.. But that takes common sense which the FHSAA board has none.

Another consequence of this decision is smaller districts and regions, since one more class has been created.  The larger classes under the old system (5A-8A) had 81-82 teams, while the larger classes (2A-4A) under the new system will have 64-68 teams.  So each of these new classes will have 14-18 fewer teams.  The average district size will be 4 teams, with the possibility of some 5-team districts, and the probability of some 3-team districts.  In addition, each region will consist of 16-17 teams, and with 8 teams making the playoffs in each region, about 50% of the teams will make the playoffs in these classes.  The opportunity for postseason play has been increased, so that 40 more teams will make the playoffs across all classes this year.  More good/bad news from this decision, depending on your viewpoint.

If they don't move into the zoned district for that school they would sit for one year to play sports period, so no determination needed.  The fact that they would still choose School Choice with that rule tells you the academics are the reason which is why it should be allowed at any point.

I've said a million times on this board I have no problem with school choice for academic reasons but it has become team choice. I say limit the number of transfers a program can except in.

We need to figure out some way to differentiate between "school choice" and "team choice."

I'm ok with school choice.  However I think school choice should be made entering 9th grade and after that you have to move or sit out a year.

im trying real hard to figure out why you care so much?  is your team in sub urban and your super butt hurt? or is your team in metro and you can figure out why you wont win a state title now?  if the answer is neither, you are really emotional about this.
suburban doesnt help the suburban teams as much as everyone/anyone thinks.  metro still will be majority of same teams winning anyways.
it hurts the middle of the road teams in both classes and lumps them with alot of the same districts they were already in
    or
lumps them with teams they were not going to beat regardless of any class.
the 5-5 teams will still be 5-5
the 9-1 teams will still be 9-1
get rid of school choice, which wont happen, is the only real solution to the recruiting issue we have in the state.  put back in the 365day mandatory sitout period for transfers. major major fines for coaches, suspensions, etc.
    may get something straight here.

Truth hurts Columbia. Please explain how Seminole got placed in Metro when they were in suburb with original idea. Maybe so Lee county could escape and get its 2 members to vote for separating Florida in A  and C track football divisions.   While you are adding fake titles...why dont you just Create 286 classifications so all of you can be fake state champs. Participation trophies for all country bumkin teams.

I am done about my school. Did anyone see how screwed 2a schools are in metro. School class range of 600-1600 and packed with some amazing teams like billed and central. I bet teams flock for independence there. That idea seems fair. Did anyone even mention how metro teams in 2a getting crushed

A lot of families move away. We have a high migrant population, that travels for work (sugar cane, corn, rice, etc). It’s always been like that. 7/8th grade classes have about 150+ kids, but by the senior year there’s 70 kids graduating.
Jobs and housing are issues also. A lot of people work in West Palm, Riviera and that’s a 45 minute to hour drive. So it’s convenient to move closer to your job.

Baker wasn't any better. The thing is 5A is Miami Central, AHP a distant 2nd, and a bunch of average at best teams.

Looking at the data, seems the bigger the county the more likely it's a private school still in the playoffs.

I predicted 5A-9 was a terrible district yet got *four* teams into the playoff and they collectively went 1-3 in round one, with the sole win a 24-21 over a 3-7 Tampa Chamberlain team by 7-3 Nature Coast Tech.  There were much stronger teams (e.g. 5-4 Port Charlotte) that didnt make it into the 5A playoffs because the RPI formula favors districts in weak geographic regions.  The RPI kept out a lot of good teams that played hard schedules but had close losses to power teams while rewarding those who played weaker schedules but piled up wins
I've thought about this and I think a better solution is to have more districts, keep the RPI, but limit districts to no more than 2 teams.  You could also make an exception to this rule by taking a third team from a district in the rare instance they are 0.1+ higher RPI than a second place team in another district, thus having a provision to account for the extremely strong districts that might occur.

At the start of the season I would guess at some of my picks and get them right. As the year progressed I'd research teams and make a pick based on common opponents, average margin of victory, etc. My picks started to fall off. I've gone back to just guessing.
