s1nglewing reacted to mbhs69 in Pahokee?
Actually, I believe Florida looks quite good in doing this ... honoring the rules instead of a wink and a nod. Why have rules if skirting "just one" is OK? It's not the sole responsibility of FHSAA to ensure each player's eligibility, to collect all final rosters, check and investigate them for total accuracy with the team or school district that submitted them, and finish all that by game time. Final roster submissions ain't a game of "stump the chump", and professional educators, administrators, and coaches are expected to demonstrate integrity and honesty.
Submitting them is the responsibility of the HC, AD, and perhaps the Principal, and they must do so with the same attention to detail that they exhibit when preparing their teams and game plan. Quality coaches know every single game and field rule inside and out, just like they know the eligibility rules and all other rules. This is an early chance in life for the young men to learn there's consequences for not playing by the rules.
I was pullin for the blue devils all year, and feel bad for the other Pahokee players, but that's just how real life works. Whether this case is intentional or unintentional, well I don't know and that's for fhsaa to deal with.

Adults not doing their jobs casts a shadow on the success of the program, its' players, the school, and the community. Whoever (whether one or several people) dropped the ball should bear the consequences. Precedent is that when a team cheats, intentionally or not, the result is a forfeit except in championship games, in which case the championship is voided. Tough stuff, but leadership failures always affect more than just one or a few.

Isn't that 2 too many?
Pahokee has had this issue before when they played Newberry for state championship, several players diving into the endzone on their blowout win if I remember correctly.
As a person who was in high school and living in the 561 during the Boldin Years, I know the talent that Pahokee has.
As for the Baker article, a lot of sour grapes on their part, but no need to continue to comment for 50+ comments like the facebook article did. Just move on.

Franklin County. Next to no community support, zero support from administration and players that have no football fundamentals upon entering high school. Recently fired their 6th coach in 10 years. All time record 16-82

You can defend the FHSAA all you want Josh but the fact is the whole urban and rural tag is just so it's not called public and private. You just acknowledged that teams "stack" their rosters, or in other words recruit. So instead of dealing with that which would fix most of the problems with all of the teams being independent, they completely revamp the entire playoff system. How about just enforce the rules that were already in place. We all know that will never happen because there is ZERO transparency with the FHSAA. They set standards then change with no reason or protocol whatsoever. When the whole rural class was talked about they discussed a class with 32 teams and they said they would NEVER allow a class under that(32) so that's how the 600 limit came about to have enough teams. What happens 2 years later, 2A and 3A are operating under 32 teams. They could very easily say 1A is the lowest 36 teams in school population, then you wouldn't have schools manipulating enrollment numbers to get under a certain number. I could go on and on about the incompetence of that organization but that's enough for now. You let me know where I'm wrong Josh.

I believe his was an interim position. The previous coach had back issues that forced him to put football down.

s1nglewing reacted to gatorman-uf in Big News - FHSAA terminating agreement with C2C
c2c is an extremely user unfriendly site for both fan and coach. Maxpreps is so much cleaner and easier to use than C2C. The only positive in c2c was the contract process which still was a pain in the butt.

Pretty happy with 1A. The only change I would make in region 1 and 2 is swap bozeman and cottondale for geographic reasons. Region 3 looks good and region 4 is just so spread out. I do think you should be required to play at least 5 games against regional opponents.

s1nglewing got a reaction from Sharkbait in 2017 Head Coaching Changes
Franklin/Apalachicola/Carabelle has always had kids that won't go to workouts, off-season or in-season, parents who support their kids lack of work ethic, and administrations that blame the head coach first for kids not performing to the high expectations of the parents (the same ones that are ok with their kids skipping workouts and practices). Used to be that when the oyster harvest time came in, half the team disappeared to "work" with their dads or uncles, etc. I don't know what the excuse is now that the business has dried-up. It is an absolute dead-end career-killer of a job.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do. One of my teams won 72-0 and we had our youngest and least experienced in the whole second half. Even had the OL running the ball.

s1nglewing reacted to Proseteye in I'm Glad this Board is Thriving
There are still a few, very few, members over on the other board, who would be satisfied with this board. Possibly they don't know that this board exists and that is why the aren't here yet. I, myself, found I could no longer be part of that other board due to the amount of people who acted like 5 years old's on a school playground. Constantly berating and making idiotic remarks toward other members that were not in the 5 year old's clique. Hopefully, those types will not migrate to this board and bring the same mindset.

s1nglewing reacted to Proseteye in Great Article about Florida HS Coach Pay
If we think that the Head Coaches are underpaid how about the thousands of assistant coaches who are probably not paid at all. I might add that most private schools don't budget much for coaches, either. Outside of STA, Bolles, and a few others, I would not be surprised if a regular teacher coaches the football team for a few extra dollars.

s1nglewing got a reaction from Sharkbait in Could drastic changes be coming to FHSAA Playoffs in 2017
FHSAA has S. Walton at 679 in the 2015 population report, which is still far more than 600, even with the 10% deal (is that still in effect?)... and I'm not sure I would say four schools is several. In addition to S. Walton, there is Baldwin (605), Newberry (631), and Taylor Pierson (618), all of which are within the 10% parameter.
