I appreciate your point, Jessica, and my intent was not to belittle Chaminade's accomplishment.  My point was simply that one should be cautious when comparing teams using a criteria of "this one has won a title and this one hasn't."  Back in the day, we didn't see teams in 3A making the state finals by beating their playoff opponents 143-3 like Chaminade did last year.
I think one should study the details to ensure an apples-to-apples comparison.  Using Atlantic as an example, they had to beat Plantation, Park Vista, Western, and Miami High to make it to the 8A final.  To me, that playoff path is light years from the one Chaminade faced, and, in that sense, Atlantic's appearance in the state final was at least equally as impressive as Chaminade's state title win.

He’s already made it known to some of the recruiting handlers out there in different communities that he’s not going to be coaxed into signing players based purely on offers they might have from other schools, especially when those offers are courtesy offers to help a handler get his prospect into more doors. Did ESPN’s Chris Low just say what I think he said??? That the recruiting process is ‘rigged’ to only benefit certain players and not others? And what about these ‘so called’ high school ‘handlers’? Who are they and what are they doing in amateur sports especially at the high school level? And how are these high school ‘handlers’ relationships built with college coaches? And why would a college coach give a ‘courtesy offer’ anyways?
I guess the answer to these questions will inevitably raise more questions than answers to the viability of the college football recruiting process. It will also cast a shadow on student athletes that are now pumping social media daily with ‘blessed to receive another offer’… because it may just be a ‘handlers’ ‘courtesy offer’…
Since verbal offers are not binding (and 99.9% never read the fine print on required qualifications) this could effectively negate the entire ‘offer’ process.
And since less than 1% of all student athletes will only play at the D1 level, which are the only players being covered and promoted by the big media sports outlets, who continue to hype these players in most cases because of their offers and their totally ‘subjective’ rankings. Oh, and here’s a news flash for you, those ‘subjective’ star rankings the services use increase for a player when a player receives more offers, so does that mean the ratings are just a media plow, tied to these ‘courtesy offers’ and really worthless?
    And listen to what Nick Saban has to say on the day of his first spring practice;
“How you’re able to compete, how you’re able to sustain, what kind of player you’re going to be. And it makes it even more difficult because all the people out there who are so-called experts on Scout.com, and all the people who give them 5-stars, they create an expectation with these guys that’s unrealistic.”
“So it’s an unrealistic reality that we live in with a lot of young players, and I feel bad for them, because what I’d like for them to do is just focus on what they need to do to be good players, and try not to worry about meeting all the expectations and standards that people have created for them. I think in some cases, that contributes to guys making some not great decisions about what they do, in terms of their future.”

So is this the reason (because of the ‘so called experts’) that many top D1 student athletes with great Character, Academics & Work Ethic never get on the radar? And let’s not even consider the other 99% getting a chance to ‘get on the radar’ to compete and get a great education along with a great college experience…

A wild finish in this one.  Seminole up 10-7 late in the 4th gets a goal line stand on 4th and goal from the 1 with about 4 minutes left.  They then proceed to have a bad snap and give up a TD to Deland who goes up 14-10. Seminole then hits a 60 yd TD on 4th and 2 to take a 17-14 lead with a little under 3 minutes left.  Deland drives the field and scores on about a 30 yd pass to the RB splitting the 2 high safeties with about 1 minute left.  Seminole drives down the field but the QB gets tackled on about the 15 yard line as time expired.

Deland has 3 really good athletes in WR Marks UF RB Bellamy USF and ATH Williams.  OL and QB play are question marks and they dropped two TD passes. I was impressed with their defense.  It was better than expected and the DL has potential.  Should be interesting to see how they develop.  Sandalwood, Mandarin and Flagler are not pushovers for sure and that district is still wide open.  2 really good wins for Deland to start the season but they have to stay healthy and get better up front and at QB.

Seminole has to find a run game.  They are not as good up front as they were last year.  Seminole could not run the ball.  I thought Seminole was pretty good on defense they just gave up a few big plays.  If Seminole wants to make a deep run developing a run game is crucial.

I just did a post on the recruiting process that you might find interesting.  Sad example above...the college recruiting process stinks like yesterday's cheese.  No doubt in my mind it is being manipulated by the middle men who saw a buck to be made and got their dirty paws in the sport of high school football.  When they are done raping high school football, they'll move on to youth football.
...no different than the venture capitalists raping corporate America.  Everything is big business now.  So sad for the kids they can't just be kids for a while without being subjected to it.

To be fair to Deerfield, if one questions their ranking, one could question why Cardinal Gibbons, Chaminade and Wekiva are all so highly regarded.  All four teams are lacking in the "quality" wins department against elite-level competition over the past couple of years.  If DB is not-so-hot, well, Chaminade and Gibbons both struggled with them, so maybe they are not-so-hot either.
Look at Armwood's schedule over the past few years.  There is limited evidence there that screams they are one of the best teams in the country.  Am not saying any of these teams are not one of the best teams in the country.  Just a lot of questions.
The only thing I can figure is that these teams are being judged based on individual talent and potential, not necessarily results on the field.  DB certainly has tremendous potential.  The problem is that these polls are all black box stuff, so it is difficult to figure why teams are ranked where they are.

how many kids from those fl schools have BCS D1 offers and no stars?  How many of the schools in other states have BCS D1 offers and no stars?   I'd bet the FL publics have a ton of kids with good offers and no stars while the others have less.
Lakeland.  6 kids have offers no stars.

J Serra   All kids with offers have stars.

Doesn't mean J Serra is more talented.   When looking at talent it's better to look at how many kids have offers.   Stars are very misleading.

Well think about it...which is the truly more talented team...Miami Central or Chaminade?   I think college recruiters/rating services encourage "the talent" to aggregate at private schools or similar power publics because it makes it easier.   The talent in question mostly being kids that attend the various camps or or kids on important youth squads.   that being said there are plenty of schools further from metro areas that discourage going to camps like those. (I don't agree with that at all either)
I read an article on a scrimmage of rome vs Grayson this year and I was surprised when I read The "Rome kids don't attend camps". I fogured some kids just can't make it to them, I had no idea it was discouraged.  Anyways,  that team is definitely more talented than the sites say.  Here's the article.
    https://247sports.com/Article/Standouts-from-the-Rome-Wolves-versus-Grayson-Rams-practices-119962190/
another good example is Columbia.   I saw some pretty good talent and when I looked for players Most of them had no offers.  Look at this kid and tell me he's not D1 material...

...the data above raised a lot of questions in my mind.
Nationally-ranked, public school powerhouse Lake Travis of Texas(2500 students) has 2 rated players and Centennial of California(3300 students) has 5.   Perennial national powerhouse Allen of Texas in talent hotbed Dallas has 9 times as many students as Chaminade, yet has the same number of rated players and less 4-star players.
Do the private schools around the country truly have that much more talent per capita?  Or are rating services inflating the ratings of kids at private schools?    And, if so, why?  The same question can be asked about the polls.  Have the private schools truly progressed that much faster than their public school counterparts that now half the top teams in the polls are private schools?  Or are private schools being shown favoritism by the pollsters?  And, if so, why?
There are a disproportionate number of rated recruits and top-ranked teams amongst the private schools in southern CA, south FL, and the Maryland/DC area.
