OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Bamarod in Historic Win for Tampa Bay Tech
Over the past 10 seasons, Armwood has lost only 6 regular season games on the field. 4 of those losses came at the hands of Plant. Hillsborough and American Heritage Delray each beat Armwood in 2012. Last night, Tampa Bay Tech became only the third Hillsborough County team to beat Armwood since 2008 in the regular season or the playoffs.
Below are the results of recent games TBT has played against Armwood....all losses, and most of them not even close. So, last night's win over Armwood was a huge occasion for the Titans.
2017 35-12
2016 38-14
2015 25-20
2012 30-0
2011 40-11
2010 38-6
2009 9-6
2008 45-6
2007 26-0
2004 57-19

OldSchoolLion reacted to VeniceIndianFan in Vero Beach defeats Venice
Ok so maybe I said some things I shouldn’t have said but In all fairness Vero looked down this year from their game against Viera but obviously they made some big changes in just a week... I was at the game, fumbles and interceptions killed us and Our secondary wasn’t as fast as it should have been. Congratulations on the win, I wish Vero all the best this season

OldSchoolLion reacted to Floridatech in Vero Beach 42 Venice 20 Final
I remember at the FPC game two years ago, Vero was beating them 38-0 at half and then Jarvis Jones dad was walking up and down the sidelines on the vistors side and he was bragging about our regular season streak and then an FPC student was like HEY LETS TALK BOUT THE PLAYOFFS THO....i just looked at em and laughed

Was nice how Vero stayed patient and composed and struck with those passes in the second half when Venice was tiring. They just had another gear tonight. I bet the kids from Vero are very excited.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DarterBlue2 in Official Week 1 Scores Thread
Edgewater beat Bishop Moore in a defensive struggle played with intensity but marred by penalties 24-20. The game lasted 3:33 minutes and was decided when Edgewater sacked the BM QB on fourth and long with less than 40 seconds left in the game.
Edgewater has a ton of very good athletes, but shot themselves in the foot with penalties. BM took advantage of their opportunities despite being outgunned talent wise and came close to gutting out the win. Both teams are solid playoff caliber teams but will have difficult paths to Camping World Stadium. Still it would not be out of the question for either or both to make a deep run.

Don’t know if this is the right final I’ve been getting different scores all night but if so congrats btw and good job to Dillard for leaving it all on the field. And not getting intimidated by a big name school and getting blown out by 50

Cover 0 finally catches up with the Patriots.
CC connects on a post down the middle of the field for a twenty yard score.
Hard-hitting affair in Plantation. Carol City runs around on D.

OldSchoolLion reacted to badbird in Central Florida Rankings
in my opinion 8A was weak at the top. lots of really good teams but no great teams. I don't think anyone thought much of Wekiva until they beat DP mid season. Both Winter Park and Wekiva had really good defenses but marginal offenses.. Their defenses were good enough to carry them. Same can almost be said about DP last year. Usually teams that get the rankings or the hype are teams with exciting playmakers on offense. nether of those teams really had that.
but if you remember I had Winter Park and Wekiva ranked early in my central Florida rankings and caught major crap for it by a certain pollster but i didn't think either team would end up being as good as they were.

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from SPCjessica2004 in Class 3A, Week 1
I'd love for somebody out there to find a public quote from one of the coaching legends of high school or the NCAA in which they were complaining about their position in the preseason polls and whining about lack of recognition they "deserve." Good luck!

Bartow took out Bolles QB just like Bolles took out our QB the year before. The 1995 game was a 1st quarter disaster for Hardee, but then we came back on them. Bolles lead 21-0 and the end of the 1st and 28-7 at half. The Hardee fans left that game feeling like we would have won had the clock not ran out us. Final was 28-21.

OldSchoolLion reacted to Hwy17 in Manatee vs Southeast 1985 Classic Game Video
The 80's was the "Golden Age" of football in this part of the state. Its too bad that Hardee choose to be independent in 1986. We went 10-0 and defeated Palmetto that year. Many think we would have won state. Hardee made it to the finals two years later but lost to Suwanee. Avon Park won back to back state titles in 1987-1988.

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Hwy17 in Manatee vs Southeast 1985 Classic Game Video
In 1985, two of the best teams in Florida were both from Bradenton. Manatee represented west Bradenton and Southeast represented east Bradenton in a rivalry that started in 1974. In 1985, Manatee entered the game with a 29-game winning streak(due to Lakeland forfeiting a game in 1984) and was a heavy favorite. Southeast had never beaten Manatee on the field. This game was played at Hawkins Stadium(Manatee).
Manatee won the 5A state title in 1983 and repeated the feat in 1985 against powerhouse Pensacola Woodham. Southeast played in the 1985 4A title game and finished runner-up to defending state champion Pensacola Escambia, who was led by a running back named Emmitt Smith. Both of those title games were played in Bradenton.
The mid 1980's was a time that saw the teams from this part of the state rise to prominence. Later this decade, Sarasota Riverview was challenging Manatee for dominance in 5A. 3 legendary coaches led these teams...Joe Kinnan at Manatee, Paul Maechtle at Southeast and John Sprague at Riverview. Palmetto played for a 2A title in 1986.
In addition to the Sarasota/Manatee teams, Dunedin played in two 5A finals, and Tarpon Springs played in a final. West Central FL was loaded with talent! Enjoy the video and some old school play.

By far the biggest upset in DP history was the 1997 first round loss to Oviedo.
DP was 10-0, demolished everyone on their schedule (including state power Evans) but lost 27-24 in OT in the upset against the Lions.
The 1997 team, to me, is on an equivalent level to the 2010, 2016 and 2017 teams that made the title game... they blew teams out early. They were up 14-0 in the 1st against Oviedo if I remember correctly.

Hey, that's my Youtube video.
I also have the '91 & '92 Southeast/Sarasota Riverview games on there as well.
1991 - Riverview came in ranked #1 in 5A, Southeast #2 in 4A. In overtime, Southeast stops Shawn Bane at the goal-line on a two point conversion attempt to take a 21-20 win.
1992 - Southeast scores a late TD to win 19-18.

Back in December 1998, a 28-yard field goal by Wesley Virgilio as time expired gave Estero a shocking 15-14 upset win over No.1-ranked Lakeland in the 5A state semifinals before a capacity crowd of 8,000 at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland. After trailing all night, the Wildcats (13-1) scored on the final play to advance to the 5A title game against Osceola in Gainesville, where they lost 28-14. The field goal denied Lakeland a chance to win its second state championship in three years.
After being shut out in the first half, the Wildcats launched an 84-yard scoring drive that consumed almost half of the third quarter. The PAT was blocked. Later in the third quarter, Estero scored on a 17-yard pass play and the 2-point conversion failed.
This was Estero's fourth straight playoff game on the road in 1998. They defeated Stuart South Fork and South Plantation, each by 1 point, and then defeated Charlotte 34-10. This was Estero's only trip to a final in school history. Between 1999-2001, Estero was knocked out of the playoffs all three years by St Thomas Aquinas.
