I'm definitely familiar with Atlanta!  I graduated from GT a few decades ago.  Atlanta is definitely loaded with opportunity, especially if you're high tech.  I'm high tech and luckily found one of the few engineering jobs locally here in the Tampa area.

Matrix math can be very hard but it's not the class I remember math majors failing.  Real Analysis was BY FAR the hardest math class I've ever dealt with and I've pretty much taken the gauntlet of them.  For example, real analysis is where you have to prove 1+1=2 and it was a two page painful proof.  You can no longer assume everything you've ever assumed was true, including that numbers are real.  It's bizarre and painful.

Of course it is.  You really need calculus, differential equations and statistics to model anything in the real world.

I'd hate to be a MC fan where a state championship is not the goal and induces *yawns*.  I guess this is the world of all star transfer teams?

This is a big hint of what I mentioned earlier that early season rankings are weighted heavily upon last years results, with these weights eventually going to zero when this year's results become statistically significant.  This suggests a statistical power measurement to me.  By statistics based, I mean using statistical (stochastic) processes, not football team stats... just in case anyone was confused.

I'm a mathematician (masters in applied mathematics) and until the formula is revealed, it can be anything.  A true power index is typically a weighted formula that heavily leans on last years results for the early rankings but these weights effectively go to zero as the season nears the end and there are enough teams that have played each other to have statistical relevance for the current year.  Probably the single biggest measure of power is margin of victory/loss so the FHSAA has really gimped the formula by removing this from the calculation, thus becoming full "elo chess" ranking.  Elo chess ranking works for chess players because there are thousands and thousands of matches where the binary win or loss result becomes statistically relevant.  This does not work well for football because of how few games a season has.  From my observation of last year, a tough district/region is over-rewarded whereas a powerful team from a weak region is severely penalized.  In the end, the most powerful teams generally made the final four so most of the complaint is leaving out deserving teams and taking too many teams from a single district.

St. John Bosco losing to Kahuku in Hawaii this past weekend makes STA's loss to SJB look worse.  Maybe it's a sign that karma will eventually even things up against STA.

0-4 is who we are up to this point due to inconsistent offensive production, partly due to depleted backfield and inexperience at QB.  We have also suffered with the injury bug on the defensive side but will have a couple of key starters back (obviously not Melendez) which will certainly help tomorrow night.  Hopefully we can pick up our first win and then have a bye week to make a strong showing the second half of the season as I fully expect we will.

Up 21-14 with about 30 seconds left and the other team is out of timeouts and facing 4th and 43 from their 40.  They call timeout and throw a hail mary that our guys jumped up in the air and batted it right to their WR and they convert.  They then run up and score with 1.1 seconds left.  We then had a personal foul after the score and it moves the ball to the 1 for their XP so they decide to go for 2 and get it.  The team was 3-0 and they were 2-0 so it would've been a nice win and PHU has never been 4-0 in its history.  I just don't know how a team can recover from this?  My son couldn't sleep last night.
Edit: I meant the other team used their final timeout right before the hailmary

I think OT is the worst loss to take.  You played well enough to not lose in regulation but you still end up with the L.  Hurts.

I wouldn't exactly call Largo a bad team.  They have a few D1 prospects, one of which is a 4-star LB commit to UF.  More like a decent team that is below the elite tier that one would put Lakeland in.

I went to Atlanta after leaving Tallahassee.  Believe me, Atlanta was nowhere on my radar but the job opportunities and income potential particularly in I.T. blew Florida out of the water.
Temperature wise, it may be a 10-15 difference compared to  parts of N. Florida.  I also had a short stint in Chicago while doing a winter co-op with All-State during my senior year back in '98.  Worst cold of my life.  It's a cold that's no longer cold but it just hurts.  NOTHING in the south comes close.  It was unseasonably warm by Chicago standards that year and oddly enough, didn't snow.  The eve before my flight back to Tally in '99, me and my roommate went to a club (now defunct) called The Convent just outside DT Chicago.  I guess the sacrilege of going to a club of sin that use to be a church reared it's head because we left at 3am, the skies opened up and we were snowed in for the next 3 days.  It was fun as first as I had never experienced snow except on TV.  However, the reality set in that we didn't have any food, couldn't drive as the roads were closed.  Thankfully there was a bar that we had to layer up for and walk half a mile just to eat.  It was then I knew I was over the snow and understood why everyone flocked to Florida, lol.  All this happened around the time that the late Gov. Lawton Chiles passed away before leaving office for those that remember.
Florida will always be my home.  However, Florida is conquered territory.  America, even the world is bigger than Florida.  Don't knock it until you try it.  Yes, I have plenty of family in Tally along with St. Pete, Lakeland, W. Palm Beach and Miami so I will always be connected to the Sunshine State.
