From what I remember, I thought that 2010 team had a shot against STA. Plant had some terrible turnovers that game and they were forced to throw the ball late basically taking Wilder out of the offense. The 2016 team I think everyone knew STA was going to roll them over. All said, from basically 2000-2019, Plant and Armwood ran the county. They had some fun matchups too.

Quick shout out to 2011 Jefferson, who may have been the best Hillsborough team ever!

Armwood and plant lost just as many times to a SFL powerhouse

I only remember plant and armwood getting one win each during their recent heyday in the finals, the biggest difference is plant and armwood were always in the north so they would face SFL in the finals while Jesuit usually was region 3 and would lose to SFL in semifinals

If memory serves me right, Plant has four state titles in this century and Armwood two.

Yes that’s correct…..3 on the field for Armwood. The 2011 team had to forfeit the win against Central (who was also ineligible lol).
On the field, Armwood is 3-7 in state title games. Plant is 4-2

Armwood

beat Lake Gibson 2003 & 04

beat Central 2011

lost Nease 2005

Lost Lincoln 2010 (or maybe 09)

Lost Central 13,14,15

Lost Northwestern 2017, 2018

Plant

beat Nease 2006

beat Lincoln 2008

beat Manatee 2009

beat Miramar 2011

lost STA 2010 & 2016

I was at the two underlined games, as well as at the second win against Lake Gibson. It is is ironic that neither Armwood nor Central could have kept the state title regardless of the on the field result.

In the Lincoln game, Armwood came in the heavy favorite. But they basically gave the game away. I seem to remember Lincoln taking a blocked Armwood field goal attempt to the house for six among other things. I think Armwood felt it had won the state title in its semi-final win and probably did not play its best game that afternoon.

That’s exactly right. They went in as big time favorites and just blew the game. I think they outgained Lincoln by like 20yds just couldn’t put them away. They beat Dwyer the week before on a last second 50yd (roughly) pass.
