Colorado Votes to Change HS Transfer Rules

The Colorado HSAA just voted to change their rules and now athletes will lose varsity eligibility for 365 days if transferring schools without a bona fide family move, or a hardship waiver.  Previously, it was possible to maintain up to 50 percent eligibility.  The full article is at the link below.

...another change. If a student or parent/guardian is found to have submitted false information in order to be granted a hardship, the student athlete can now lose up to two years of eligibility in any sport at any level. It was previously a one-year period of lost eligibility.

Ohio will be voting on changes to their transfer rules in May.  Will be interesting to see when/if Florida chooses to look at this issue again.

Agree and again kids transfer for all type of reasons ...so what about that band member that transfers or debate team member or just a kid moving for better education in their opinion? again the state will not touch that issue because of the negative spin that will follow such a ruling. Texas, Florida, Cali, and Ga will always have issues with kids movement so the cry out over it will continue to be there from coaches and fans but the look for the state to do anything soon it's been 40 plus years of movement now it's just reported more.

Not nearly as much even 20 year, the difference was you were shamed for it.
I remember a cross country runner transferred into my school as a senior, she took a lot of heat for it as we had a very good cross country team and she was a district/regional top 5 person. Yeah, it happened , but the coach had to prove that he had not recruited her in anyway.

The band /debate argument is such BS. There is no such thing as a band state championship. Bands are graded on superior, excellent, good, fair, poor. So yeah you improved the quality of your band, but there is no state championship for it. In sports, it is competition. As for speech and debate, they are individual competitions for the most part. It is one of the reasons why you don't see tons of golf and tennis kids transferring. I would also point that band and speech are actually part of the curriculum of schools. Football (while we might call it the "football" class for weightlifting and film watching purposes) is not.
