St Augustine

Let's look at this for a moment

4 straight losses all to teams that if i saw correctly has been owned by St Augustine from a historic perspective

Bartram Trail  first ever win over St Augustine

Ponte Vedra  First ever win over St Augustine

Menendez first ever win over St Augustine

Is this just a off year or has time finally caught up with St Augustine and we are now seeing a program that was once one of the best in the state and even up to last year were serious contenders, are they now in decline?

Would like to hear some thoughts from people out there on this

I don't know anything from an insider's perspective on this program. But I, too, am surprised and disappointed by their big decline. Has the coaching staff turned over? Are other schools taking their talent? There has to be some reason this has happened.

Well I'll respond to the only thing i can truly speak on

Their legendary coach retired after the 2014 season but they promoted from within if my memory serves me correctly so i wouldn't say coaching turnover so it probably is one of the other things

@Jags904 ik St Augustine a bit south of you but do you know what going on over there?

I did hear on Friday night blitz last night they are apparently on their 4th qb this year

That could explain a lot with the struggles but not explain how St Augustine wouldn't have a qb ready to go

I’m very familiar with the 904 as a whole. The problem is they graduated like 18 starters and 32 guys who got significant playing time. They have also had some bad injuries and have had to start a QB who can’t make the throws, as almost any team would have to on QB #4. They’ve also got a really talented freshman group, like seriously talented.

Im not concerned about the program at all. They will be fine, they got a good head coach and a great system from pop warner on up. Bad luck has caused this year to be a bad one for them but they will be fine. Look for them to return to final four contention next year.

This is just how high school football is for most teams. on a "down year" for some schools it might be a 9-1 or 10-0 regular season with second round playoff loss. Other teams it might be a 6-4 or 7-3 regular season with a first round playoff loss. The next year the same team in both circumstances could be in the semis or state finals. Only a handful of teams in this state have consistent 9-1 or 10-0 regular seasons with 3rd round through state finals playoff runs every year.

That’s the thing about St Aug. They are one of those teams who have consistent 9-1 or 10-0 regular seasons and make deep playoff runs every year.

The following was posted on Flavarsity by the fingertips of "307Mac" a lifelong St Augustine resident/fan, and yearly member of a group of us who attended the high school football championships in Orlando.

"Missing is St.Augustine ,I hate to say it but we might not be a obstacle for any panhandle team making it to the semifinals ,we have a really young team and quit a few injuries ,we probably still can win our district ,but may not be good enough this year to make it past the 1st or second rd,but the future is bright and we should be ok next year or 2020". • I’m not saying it doesn’t occur. What I am saying is that everything is case by case so if you are accusing a specific coach/team of cheating, I would at least like to see the evidence of the accusation. Because if you don’t then you are basically defaming them with gossip
    • Are you saying illegal recruiting does not occur in Florida ?     Wake up and take your blinders off
    • Dang shame. Wonder what it was about. Wonder if the principle was meddling out of his element.    There was a story near me about Land O Lakes High. Before the season, 2 freshman were slap boxing and other kids were filming it. One kid was obviously winning over the other with the kids in the background cheering it on. So when it got leaked, it was interpreted as hazing. As if all the kids in the background were sanctioning it.    Without one second of investigation the principal shut the entire football program down. Varsity season cancelled over 2 freshman slap boxing. It caused a shit storm. Local news swarmed the school. Parents outraged. Protesting outside the office demanding the principal be fired.    They finally asked some quick questions and it was determined to be exactly what it was originally said it was. Football was reinstated but JV missed the first game over it.    The principal was some punk pencil neck who looks like he never played a sport in his life and many people came out and said he had it out for the football program and he was the same way at his old school.    I say all that to say is this a similar case of some pencil neck principal who never played sports trying to undermine and butt in to something that they are way out their element on?
    • Word is, Coach Banks the former head coach was escorted off campus last week after a heated discussion with the principle. from what i have been told this stems from banks talking to the paper about the program.
    • They definitely would have been competitive. They had a really good and really young OL coming back. They also had settled into a pattern of getting plenty of transfers.
