Not sure where they played before the, but the name before the Citrus Bowl was named after the cities nick name of the Hibiscus City... The Hibiscus Bowl

Yes!  Vero played at the Hibiscus Bowl from 1949 to 1967, when the Citrus Bowl replaced it.  The Citrus Bowl was built by William Hensick & Sons for $87,000.  How did it get funded?

The booster club pledged to sell 587 of 768 reserved seats — located in 24 rows between the two 40-yard lines — as 10-year season tickets at $100 apiece. Their effort accounted for about $60,000. The school kicked in $5,000 from an internal account and the Indian River County School Board covered the rest.

The first game was played on 9/22/67 before about 7000 fans.  Vero lost to defending state champion Melbourne 13-12.

Prior to the Hibiscus Bowl, Vero played its home games at Michael Field, current home of Vero Beach National Little League.
