The NHL and NBA have recently signed deals with "official sports betting partners"

Here's an interesting article about high school sports betting.  Interesting that offshore bookies are taking bets on Texas hs games.  One day will we have the "official sports betting partner of the FHSAA?"

we could have odds on where hs players will commit:)

It would lead to all kinds of corruption and further "professionalize" the high school game. I can think of all kinds of very disturbing things that would result including fixed games at levels as high as the coaching staffs, etc.

There are some betting already out there just not organized (like when 2 people bet head to head on a game or a spread)

Yes, I know, and you can never get rid of that altogether. My concern is that if we turn it into a business, it will have some very negative implications.

Does anyone have a line on the Carol City vs American game?  :)

I'm sure you're aware, Darter...people are not putting emphasis on hs football recruits out of the goodness of their hearts.  There is money to me made by people "handling" them.  Just as TV is a vehicle for advertising, hs football has become a vehicle for marketing of people, products and institutions.  Innocence is gone.  Pros and college are on TV because they are business.  The first time they showed a high school game on ESPN I said to myself, "Uh oh," we are no longer under the radar.
