Biggest AP Florida HS Football All State Mistake in 2015

Shame on the AP!  8A Flanagan CB Stanford Samuels was not 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team.  Try Honorable Mention.   Samuels is basically a top 50 Player and top 5  CB in the NATION in every major recruiting publication.  He has over 40 D1 big time school offers and to make the committee look even more asinine he had a pick six for Flanagan to seal the game vs Osceola in the State Championship.  Many feel Samuels was arguably the best CB in the state this year.  I don't know how Samuels was overlooked... Unless the committee wanted to go socialist style and not allow Flanagan to have 4 Defensive Players on the 8A First Team....it makes 0 - ZERO SENSE and is an insult.  If anyone here can get some reasoning from the committee - please advise.

Offers from Notre Dame, Every SEC school, FSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, UCLA.....But ONLY a Honorable Mention at CB in 8A.  Either political or moronic, AP.  What a snub!

Broward, there is one person that is the coordinator of this and my understanding is that the papers are suppose to have a say, but really the teams are usually decided in general before the state finals are even completed by this one person. This is not the only glaring issue with the teams as the Viera QB who had record breaking season got shafted big time with the Aquinas QB getting 1st team in 7A instead (which I have heard from some of the Aquinas faithful agreeing their QB was not a 1st team QB). Really the AP teams had a lot of issues this year.

What we are doing with our All-State teams is placing emphasis on production first and then other things second. Recruiting is the not emphasis of these teams, but recognizing what the kids have in the locker in terms of offers can be recognized at the proper time. This is why we are taking the time to research EVERYTHING before even putting teams together. More data to work with the better.

I here ya Josh. Thanks for explaining how the All State team pretty much is formed.... If Samuels would have been 2nd team or something, I would have just looked at it as a minor snub but when I saw Honorable Mention I had to go into rant mode.....If emphasis is on production, I am somewhat more baffled to be honest with you.  Considering he locked down/checked names like Binjimin Victor/Treyvon Mullen (Coconut Creek), Sam Bruce/ Treyvon Grimes (STA), Jerry Jeudy/Cavin Ridley (Deerfield Beach) and pretty much no one even tested Samuels the remainder of the 8A playoffs until Osceola tried and failed.   I have seen the list of DBs  play locally  on the  8A 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams - Samuels is on another level than most of them.  If the local papers play a role in this I think I 99% understand what is obviously going on now. Particularly locally.

I share your complete frustration and have let my feelings be known on twitter.  I was pissed when my nephew Taylor Garrison was completely omitted on DL for 7A, not even and HM.  I know I carry EXTREME bias but I've assembled the numbers for everyone that did make it for you to digest as you see fit.  I'm don't want to down a kid that did make it but imo this was basically based on recruiting rankings alone and not the actual season the kid put in.  Also, for anyone that thinks they played a soft schedule it couldn't be further from the truth.  The won the district with Oakleaf and Bartram trail in it.  Out of district they played Gainesville, Santa Fe, Eastside (this was weak), Vanguard and Columbia who all made playoffs.  In the playoffs they beat Edgewater before losing a close game late in a Bartram Trail rematch after their QB got hurt.  If you watch his hudl clips you'll recognize some big name OTs he's beating for sacks.

The teams did have the Utility defense slot but in every case it seemed they just used that to throw another DB on the team.

* Note if you see no stats I couldn't find them.  Most cme straight from maxpreps but Belvin I pulled from his local paper.

Wow!  Another example that makes 0 sense as to why/how this athlete was looked over.  The numbers are there, the competition was solid....I have no answer for you thomlch, and I am guessing the AP has no answer as well...
