I don't put much stock in preseason polls....but here are a couple more, post-KOC's.....

    Tampa Bay
    1. Lakeland Dreadnaughts: The Dreadnaughts defense showed up big in a 21-0 win over Lake Gibson.
    2. Manatee Hurricanes: The Hurricanes rallied from behind for a 28-19 win.
    3. Armwood Hawks: A rare loss for the Hawks, but they found a quarterback in Devin Black.
    4. Jesuit Tigers: The Tigers scored on their first four possessions in a 45-0 win over Strawberry Crest.
    5. Plant Panthers: The Panthers succumbed to a more physical Venice team.
    6. Braden River Pirates: RB DeShaun Fenwick's offseason work showed up in the Pirates 38-10 win over River Ridge.
    7. CCC Marauders: New head coach Chris Harvey ushered in a new era with a 35-0 win against Bayshore.
    8. Plant City Raiders: The Raiders poured it on from the opening kickoff in a 37-0 win over Riverview.
    9. Winter Haven Blue Devils: The Blue Devils showed off their ground game in a 43-6 win against Miami Killian.
    10. Tampa Bay Tech Titans: The Titans defense and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. were highlights in a 35-0 win over Blake.
    11. Pinellas Park Patriots: Jordon Scott and the Patriots smothered Robinson in a 29-0 win.
    12. Tampa Catholic Crusaders: Lightning in the first quarter ended Tampa Catholic's game vs. Gaither with the Crusaders trailing 14-13.
    13. Jefferson Dragons: Lightning shortened the Dragons game as well, but not before QB Cade Weldon showed he is back.
    14. Lake Gibson Braves: The Braves took their licks against a powerful Lakeland team.
    15. Clearwater Tornadoes: Clearwater Coach Don Mesick wanted a tough start to the season and he got one in Cocoa.
    16. Hillsborough Terriers: The Terriers poured on the points and limited them in a 41-0 shutout against East Bay.
    17. East Lake Eagles: The Eagles may have finally settled on their starting quarterback after a 33-8 win over Sunlake.
    18. Kathleen Red Devils: The Red Devils showed off their strong defense in a 17-0 win vs. Lake Wales.
    19. Palm Harbor University Hurricanes: The Canes carried over momentum from last year in a 51-11 win against Mitchell.
    20. Cambridge Christian Lancers: State runner-ups last year, the Lancers have worked hard in the offseason to get back to Orlando.
    Central Florida
    1. Cocoa â€“ Tigers open the regular season Sunday on ESPN against nationally ranked Trinity Christian from Jacksonville.
    2. Apopka â€“ Blue Darters committed four turnovers in a 24-21 Kickoff Classic loss to 7A state ranked Lake City Columbia.
    3. Dr. Phillips â€“ UCF commit Marvin Washington accounted for three touchdowns as the Panthers downed Jones 21-6.
    4. Mainland â€“ Bucs blasted Lake Mary in Kickoff Classic and start the regular season with a trip to rival DeLand.
    5. Bishop Moore â€“ Reigning 5A state champs have three quarterbacks vying for the starting job heading into the ‘Battle of College Park’ against Edgewater.
    6. Orange City University â€“ Titans backfield duo of Lorenzo Lingardand Marquis Mickens was impressive against DeLand with both rushing for over 100 yards.
    7. West Orange â€“ Transfer quarterback Austin Burton shredded Osceola’s secondary for 233 yards and three touchdowns as the Warriors outscored the Kowboys 57-35.
    8. Osceola â€“ In their third meeting with West Orange in the last 12 months, Kowboys defense surrendered 57 points in a 22-point loss.
    9. Viera â€“ Defense should be a strength for the Hawks this season and it showed with a 57-0 shutout against Eau Gallie.
    10. Seminole â€“ First year coach Don Stark hopes to lead the ‘Noles to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
    11. Palm Bay â€“ Pirates are among a handful of teams throughout the state that will not play a regular season game this week.
    12. Timber Creek â€“ Wolves blasted Winter Springs and face Oviedo, another Seminole County opponent, this Friday.
    13. Winter Park â€“ Wildcats raced to a quick 21-0 lead on Edgewater and cruised to a 35-6 win.
    14. Merritt Island – Mustangs managed only one touchdown against Sebastian River but it was enough for a 7-6 victory.
    15. Lake Brantley – Patriots committed four turnovers and struggled to find an offensive rhythm in a 17-7 loss to Spruce Creek.
    16. Oviedo – Lions were unable to dig out of an early hole in a 34-27 loss to Wekiva.
    17. Hagerty â€“ Huskies are off this week and will begin their regular season Sep. 2 against Winter Springs.
    18. South Sumter – Raiders, who open with Leesburg, have won 40 of their last 42 regular season games.
    19. Heritage â€“ Panthers struggled against Vero Beach in the Kickoff Classic and host No. 14 Merritt Island this week.
    20. Boone â€“ Braves put forth an impressive performance against Oak Ridge in a 20-6 win.

1992 Southeast/Manatee - Southeast scores a late touchdown to take the lead. Then picks off a Manatee halfback pass in the endzone with about a minute left for their 2nd ever win against Manatee.

1993 Southeast/Manatee - Manatee scores late to take the lead. On Manatee's last possession, they are forced to punt with 1:00 left and Peter Warrick takes the punt back for a TD to win.

Pretty much any Lakeland/Manatee game in the 80's......

1984 Lakeland/Manatee - Manatee comes in to the Class 4A Section 2 playoff game as defending 4A champs, ranked #1 in the state on a 25 game win streak. Manatee takes a 14-7 1st half lead. Then Lakeland scores 12 unanswered points in the 2nd half to win 19-14. They would lose the next week to eventual state champs Woodham.

Agree 100%. I had them as under the radar in the spring, but the cat is kind of out of the bag on them. Many expect Sandalwood to make some noise in 8A this year.

You know folks, I really feel for Eastside. A few years ago they were a powerhouse and were feared by every north central team. Then all of this transfer stuff started to happen. The Rams can't keep good players as they are consistently transferring to other area schools. I do realize that Eastside is not the best school academically, which may have a lot to do with it. But, I would think that there would be more loyalty to a team that could be built into a powerhouse once again if those players thought of the school a much as they thought of themselves.

Now that to me us a much more sensible approach. Focus on what appears to be the strengths of a very good Columbia team rather than assuming the psyche of their 2016 opponents.

He had a long drive home so there was probably no parade. Although the game was a kickoff classic, both teams took it very seriously and treated it as an early regular season game. Columbia took advantage of its chances and, although I missed the second half to go watch my yardies run the men's and women's 4x100, from all accounts deserved the win. I do have a question for Columbia High Fan, though. What were you off the field for the opening kickoff and absorbing an unnecessary 15 yard penalty? I have never seen that happen before. That could have cost you a score as it gave Apopka the ball at mid-field. Fortunately for your team you held them won that drive. But unnecessary penalties should not be given to a good team.

Anyway, Columbia looks legit and I think will represent the North in the 7a game. Unfortunately, the opponent in final will most likely be St. Thomas. But good luck the rest of the season.

Despite the loss, and for what it's worth, I stand by my belief that Apopka will be in the 8a State game. A few kinks need to be ironed out, but the team should improve and do very well.

Their are tons of great teams in Florida, its not always necessarily needed to leave the state to find great teams, we have that advantage that don't really exist for Nevada, only so many good teams there

Say Gorman beats Cocoa by 24 and BTW beats Cocoa by 34... I would say BTW had the batter game against a common opponent.

Lot of penalties on both teams and we had a penalty to give them a final play with 0 seconds on clock from 5 and we pushed runner out at 2 so guess we can say we got redemption against single wing lol

Congrats on your win, Columbia. Apopka is not an easy team to beat.

Well, you were almost right. The Celtics lost 26-20. Both teams are not ready for prime time, IMHO. So many penalties I lost count. I think the refs were taking themselves too seriously. Let the youngster play, for pete's sake.

I don't think that Columbia or Vanguard will have too much trouble with Buchholz. They are really not that good or Trinity is really that good. I don't know which. The Celtics had too many personal fouls which cost them big time. There were times when we moved right down the field on the ground and scored easily. Then, there were other times where we just couldn't handle success, running plays that just weren't working. For some reason our top RB was not used until the 4th quarter and then he rushed for big yardage.

The Buchholz QB will not take them to the playoffs. He's OK but nothing to write home about. They do have a couple of good RB's that moved the ball. Torrey Richardson jr and Khauree Sullivan did most of the groundwork. Richardson is big and fast. Bryan Jaszczak is a pretty good WR.

I actually thought that we lost the game by shooting ourselves in the foot too many times. But, Buchholz won the game fair and square and just might have been the better team on this night.
