OldSchoolLion reacted to Terrapin in Crestview blew a lead.
So 28-0. Crestview leads into the half.
Then Navarre puts on a come back drive to get to 35-28. Crestview manages to run a drive in, for 35-35. Crestview center botches a high snap so they are forced to punt on what could've been the winning drive. OT clocks in.
Navarre intercepts it on the second play, but they have to restart at the 10 yard line. Navarre gets four tries to get it in the end zone. They get it in, Navarre wins 41-35.
What a comeback, it's like the superbowl 28-3 comeback.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DarterBlue2 in Lakeland at Apopka thoughts and observations
The final score was 37-20 in favor of Lakeland. But it does not tell the whole tale; in fact the score was not even close to reflecting the relative merits of the two teams.
Issues I see with this Apopka team:
    1. You could almost say it is star crossed. Three other key pieces of the puzzle sustained injuries: 2 Eric Wright; 88, Jaylin Carter; and, 95 Curtis Williams. Add to that the fact that 58 Antonio Meriweather did not play due to injury sustained before the game and Jecoryan Davis-Hamilton being out for the season off his injury last week, and it's not a pretty picture.
    2. Special teams - our kicker is accurate with respect to PATs. However, the snapper is inconsistent; and our kicker lacks range, particularly on kickoffs. In fact Lakeland took their first kickoff received to the house and thereafter the team resorted to more or less squib kicking/almost akin to onside kicking the ball on kickoffs. It is hard to beat teams of equal stature if they are consistently starting near midfield. If TV cannot develop his range, and if there is no one else that can do the kickoffs, then he should probably look to kick the ball out of bounds inside the 35, at least against teams that are competitive with Apopka. Our punter has a problem too. For while he has a good leg and range, being an offensive lineman he is slow and unless the snap is near perfect he can be blocked because of this. In fact this accounted for Lakeland's second touchdown where they extended the lead.
    3. The defense - I am not going to give them a hard time. For they were constantly put into bad field position both due to miscues by the offense and our kicking issues. In fact aside from one big play, a run of over 70 yards for a touchdown on second or third and 20 (I forget which), I thought they did a reasonably good job.
    4. The offense - Without Davis-Hamilton, and missing a key offensive lineman, we had trouble sustaining our running game which is our bread and butter. However, although we did not throw the ball much, the passing game came up with three critical plays to both extend drives and flip the field position. Sometimes out of adversity talents are discovered. We shall see.
Obviously I am not a happy camper and I may come over as being overly critical. But I deeply love Apopka football and to some degree I am typing this from an emotional perspective. We get Dr. Philips next week and should consider ourselves fortunate in that while they still have a lot of talent, it is young talent that is perhaps a year away from being at its best. Thus, even with our injuries we have a shot.
With all of the above said, this team still has a shot. Certainly the talent is there. But we need guys to step up and assume leadership and can afford no more injuries if Apopka is to have a shot.

SW FL has always produced great wrestlers.  Jeff Mustari of Lely was an All-American 35 years ago when Florida wrestlers were not typically recognized on the national scene.
Back then a lot of kids wrestled and played football, which was great for football.

Saw Forest Hill play once last year, and in week 1 Vs Suncoast. They have some really good backs, 3 or 4 of them. And I think 2 are only sophmores, and 1 is a junior. The QB runs the option really well, if they can find a threat at WR they can give Dwyer a run in the district.

Where are the Mr. Football now for the past 30 years? Where are the Football Coach of the Years now? An explanation of how much it costs to run a program (and why districts can't/don't do more to help). I feel sometimes the public at large doesn't understand the costs associated with sports. Additionally, showing the financial toll of moving games from Friday to Saturday morning (your tweet from one of the Jax games could help show that, especially if you had one from last year). Some one off stories about coaches like Uncle Luke, Lakatriona Brunson, and their impact. Stories about any female players (Bolles had a kicker a couple of years ago, and there was a QB in South Florida last year).  Maybe a coaches corner on a break down of a series of 3-4 plays that are designed to look the same and the coach techniques from them. Sean Sal A breakdown of a week of a head  or assistant coaches' schedule and how that continues into the off-season.  What safety precautions are required during games (ambulances, trainers, doctors) and what is the standard safety precautions? Who has the coolest logo? Who has the pettiest beef of all time? (Catholic vs Convicts of ND vs Miami) or at least the most fun T-shirts mocking an opponent.

Being new to the board, I thought I would give out a shout to my area.  Some people blow off Lee County for not having a state championship in football.  I totally understand.  However, our area has produced many NFL players and a HOF er in Deion.  The truth is, our talent is so spread out we can't really get one program to be the all-star team.  2010 South Fort Myers lost to Duke and the Norland team by 21.  FM in the early '90s could have won a state title if not for being in the same class as STA.  FM hung with STA for a half in '01 but had too many kids going both ways and got worn down.  Fort Myers is currently 4th in the state with total wins which means we have played football for a long time, but also have put a nice team on the field most years.  Fort Myers' all sports program has won 6A all sports trophy in '15 and '16 and came in second this year.  State titles by our girls basketball team 3 years in a row and should make it 4 this year.  Softball won state in '16 but lost in the semi-final this year.  Volleyball, always tough.  All I'm saying is that none of you are going to be impressed but being a Greenie is awesome.  I look forward to meeting posters on this site to in Orlando for the State Championships.   Oh one more thing.  Big thanks to Josh for running his site.  It's by far the best I've found.

Current Proposal by the FHSAA is not for football and does not affect 1A.

But no, 1A sports have been a success (look at the attendance in comparison to 2A, 3A, and even 4A). Look at the parity of the league:

In 7 years of football for 1A, you have had 10 different teams in the finals with 6 different winners. (#=runner-up, *=state champion)
    Baker # Blountstown ## Chipley # Hamilton County # Jefferson County * Madison County * Northview * Pahokee * Port St. Joe # * Trenton # * * In 7 years of boys basketball for 1A, 9 different teams make the final 2 and 5 different champions(#=runner-up, *=state champion)
Blountstown# Chipley*** Hamilton County# Hawthorne## Holmes County* Malone* Paxton # West Gadsden#* Wildwood#* In 7 years of boys basketball for 1A, 10 different teams make the final 2 and 5 different champions(#=runner-up, *=state champion)
Blountstown# Chiefland## Chipley# Holmes County# Lafayette* Madison County## Port St. Joe* Trenton** Union County* Williston**
As for how to do consolidation for football...
Leave 1A alone Take 256 largest teams, combine them into 1 classification, 32 districts, 8 teams in each district. The reality is that size does not make as much of a difference once we are above a certain number at the average public school. Take the top 3 teams from each district (based on district record), rank them by size of school, put the largest 32 in one divisional playoff, the next 32 in one divisional playoff, and the smallest 32 in the the last divisional playoff. Divide by regions, rank by playoff points, no home games for district title,  Divide the remaining teams into 3 divisions of about 70 teams, use playoff formula and regions like they do now. Football would shrink down one classification

I won't name the team unless you want me to. But this has got to be the worst season a team has ever played. Try and find something worse.
They scored 14 points in 10 games. 8 times they were shut out. So they averaged 1.4 points per game.
They gave up 520 points in ten games good for 52 points a game.
So they averaged 1.4 ppg and gave up 52 ppg. Whoa that's crazy. And the even crazier part is the teams they played were garbage teams on a state level. These were the scores.

Back in the late 1990's, Lito Sheppard led Raines in kick off/ punt returns for touchdowns, and interceptions. In 29 games, he had 18 interceptions. He also played running back and receiver at times, on a team that had athletes at every position. However, he is the only player on the 1997 Raines championship football team that affected the outcome of a game on offense, defense and special teams.  He was a USA Today All-American, a Times Union Super 24, Super Prep’s top cornerback in the nation, and is on the FHSAA’s top 100 players of the first 100 years list.
