Who are the top two most winning high school football coaches from the Miami area(only counting victories while coaching in the Miami area)?  Name #1 and #2

Hints:

Both of these coaches

  • coached for 30+ seasons
  • never won a state title
  • coached teams who had limited playoff success historically

#1-Spent all of his time coaching at one school and retired within the past few years.

#2-Coached at two different Miami schools.  Retired last decade.

Interesting note: As much as we think of Miami as being a hotbed for hs football, no coach from there is in the top 20 of FL coaches with the most wins.

...and the answer is..

...maybe a bit surprising...2 coaches who never brought home the hardware, but through years of coaching put up 200+wins

#1 - Rich Stuart - Coach at Belen for 34 seasons and retired last year;  Career record of 224-143 and 12-18 in the playoffs; Only made it past the second round of the playoffs once, losing 28-7 to Pensacola in 2009 in the Class 3A title game (beating Booker T Washington to get there)

#2 - Jim Kroll - Coached for 33 seasons at Palmetto, Miami Beach and Southwest; Career record of 213-137-3, 1 win ahead of Walt Frazier of Carol City fame; 1-8 record in the playoffs
