Would be same result if they played in regular season

CG might very well be top 5 in state this year so beating Dwyer don't surprise me

Alot of these games with big names would end the same in the regular season this is the reason why Dwyer ain't coming back to Broward County lol

The Patriots lost to the Texans and the Giants during the 2017 preseason, and the Eagles lost to the Jets.  I think each did all right by the end of the season, though.:)  Good coaches don't worry about winning spring games.

Oh i agree

But I'm sure most on here feel Cardinal Gibbons would beat Dwyer in regular season or playoffs if they played

I am no Dwyer homie, but believe some respect is due.  Check out their playoff record over the past 15 years.  How many teams out there have faced a murderer's row like this in the playoffs?  They have played at places like STA(twice), BTW, Palm Bay, Plant, Manatee and East Lake.  7/12 playoff losses were by a touchdown or less, and none of those losses was to a slouch.  7/12 playoff losses were to the eventual state champion or runner-up.

2003 lost to a 10-1 McArthur team  18-5

2004 lost to state runner-up ST Aquinas 10-7 in Fort Lauderdale

2005 lost to undefeated Booker T Washington  23-16 in Miami

2006 lost to a 10-1 BTW team 38-21

2007 lost  to undefeated state champion BTW 7-6 in Miami

2008 beat BTW 24-21 and lost to state champion Plant 33-21 in Tampa

2009 beat Armwood 41-15 and Niceville 42-14 to win state title

2010 beat Palm Bay 24-7 in Melbourne and lost 22-20 to state runner-up (vacated) Armwood in Tampa

2011 beat STA 6-3 and lost to state champion Manatee 19-14 in Bradenton

2012 lost to a 9-2 Boyd Anderson team  6-3

2013 beat STA 35-28, beat a 13-1 East Lake team 31-24(OT) and Niceville 55-39 to win state title

2015 lost to state champion STA 24-7 (who beat Viera by 35 pts in the state final)

2016 lost to state champion STA 37-0 in Fort Lauderdale (who beat Plant by 39 in the state final)

2017 lost to a 11-2 Doral Academy team 6-5

So granted they have had their way with the likes of Ely, Dillard, Hollywood Hills, Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale etc...which have probably mostly been average at best playoff teams when losing to Dwyer since 2003. It clearly appears when they play winning teams in Broward and Dade (9 wins or more, public or private) they are 3 Wins and 9 Losses?

There is no doubt Dwyer is arguably the premier public program in Palm Beach over the last few years, there is no doubt they have some of the best teams ever in Palm Beach County that may rival some of the best Pahokee and Glades Central teams.  There is no requirement to play out of county or the top teams in your county (ahum ThunderWolves) all the time but generally speaking most top programs in  SFL over the last few years do make an effort to play maybe a game or two against strong opponents either in county and/or even out of county.

Let's take a look at some recent public school state champions in Broward and Dade regular season games versus non-district:

Southridge  2016 (Played BTW ) , 2017 (Played Cardinal Gibbons Broward power , Carol City), 2018 (not sure)

Flanagan 2015 ( AHP - game fell apart, Played STA), 2016 ( Miami Central  Dade power-  cancelled scheduling issue, Played STA, Played Oxbridge Academy PB power), 2017 (Played STA, played Oxbridge Academy PB Power), 2018 (Obviously does not make sense now)

Neither of the above teams have had the consistent playoff presence of Dwyer in recent years yet win or lose they both made efforts to challenge themselves off State championship teams. Those are just two examples that never established the dominance of Dwyer but still went down swinging.....Now don't even let me get into public powers like BTW and 16-6A  scheduling outside of their districts versus Dwyer.

Dwyer has a plan that works for them and has even allowed them to slip past STA a couple times .  Maybe Dwyer is right, and all of these other SFL powers are all wrong for challenging themselves to build....... Dwyer has always been known to get top transfers in over the years and as you stated Jack Daniels has been a winner for 20 years so they are doing something right.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.

For the past 10 years or so, Dwyer has scheduled a tough, non-district opponent to start the season.  ...smart, since their team has plenty of time to recover in case they get beat up.

If Dwyer was clobbered in the playoffs each season and/or in a county with very weak competition, a case could be made to seek out competition.  But that is not the case.

Bottom line...only 3 public schools in south FL have won more than 1 state title over the past 10 seasons, and one is Dwyer.  Dade County is deeper in talent, so a Palm Beach coach may need to be more conservative with scheduling to ensure a healthy team come playoff time.

Dwyer's playoff results above speak to their readiness.  I do not believe that scheduling an additional powerhouse each of the past 15 seasons would have changed much in terms of their post-season results.

Jack Daniels has more regular season and playoff wins than nearly every active coach in the state.  He seems to be doing just fine without our advice.
