Quiz- Counties with Most State Title Winners

Rather than look at total number of individual state titles, I thought it would be interesting to measure the # of different public schools in each county who have won a title, as we did above.  It gives us a feel for how well football is engrained in the local culture.  Counties like Escambia, Leon (FAMU, Godby, Leon, Lincoln) and Okaloosa(Baker, Choctawhatchee, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville) show how much of a part of life hs football has been in the Panhandle.

No it’s not. Melbourne won a state title in 1966. Palm Bay won in 2000 and 2002.

Famous central FL coach Gerald Odom was an assistant coach under Byrd Whigham at Melbourne High in 1966 when the Bulldogs defeated Fort Lauderdale 31-12 to win the Class 2A Championship Game. That was the biggest classification in those days.

There are 2 schools in Melbourne that won. The Melbourne Bulldogs and the Melbourne Palm Bay Pirates.

And yes, Brevard is rich in support and talent. MCC and Viera are on the upswing going forward as potential new combers to the championship club.
