8A Region 3 - Will the Bucks Win Again?

Recommended Posts

Playoff seedings for Region 3 next season could look something like below.  All of these teams made the playoffs last season with the exception of Park Vista and Boca Raton.  3 playoff teams from this region return this season (Deerfield, PB Central and Wellington).  Vero, Centennial and Treasure Coast all move over from 8A Region 2 and will all be district foes once again.

This is a top-heavy region that lacks the depth of many other regions in the upper classes.  Region 3 lost Atlantic, Miramar, Piper, Plantation, and Western as part of the reclassification.  Vero Beach was the only perennial contender to move in to take their place.  That is great news for Deerfield Beach, who was one of the biggest winners of the reclassification in terms of having an easier playoff path.

Deerfield is loaded again this year and could be on a collision course for a 8A state semi rematch with Columbus.  Although folks like to tease DB for folding in the late rounds, it has been very successful at winning region titles.  Vero's playoff path now goes through teams from the south, like it did in the 2000's.  Vero has had mixed results historically against teams from Palm Beach and Broward.  It is 2-2 historically versus the Bucks, with DB winning the last 2 meetings in 2003 and 2004.  Vero may have to get through PB Central to get to the Bucks, though.
