Curious data. But is the data really indicative of a trend, though? Yes, 25.27 is a new high. However, we were at 24.07 back in 2013, and reverted to points well within the range over the next two years. Indeed, the 24.76 does not appear aberrant. However, I will agree that the 25.27 does seem like at least an expansion of the range.
Perhaps, some team, particularly the ones with tough districts, have "gambled" on the conservative side in their scheduling rather than scheduling tougher competition. Sometimes new regimes produce unanticipated results.
On another note, LAZ, sure hope you can make some of the State Title games this year. I feel it would not be the same without your presence.

I swear this is an annual column... At least anytime a Pinellas team makes it to state and loses or they are collectively all bounced in the 1st round LOL

Booker T is the most impressive considering they have only been a team since 2000.
I know they were an all black team but they closed in the 60's. Reopened like Blake, Middleton and Dunbar.
They didn't stay open like MNW, Dillard and Ely.

Palmetto was 4-12 in the playoffs coming in to this game.  Every one of those games was played against a Miami team.  I don't even think Vero Beach could top a record of that sort, although Flotech will probably prove me wrong LOL.
Palmetto has never made it past the second round in the school's history.

I was just teasin' you, but it is true...92 and 96 Dillard, 03 and 04 Deerfield.  Vero used to have to go through Dade/Broward teams in their playoff path years ago.

Last year, the Gators went after the #1rb in Georgia and FSU went after #2.
Between 2000-2017, only 4 qb's who played their high school ball in Florida were the primary qb starter at one of the Big 3 FL universities during their senior years.
I believe that practices such as these are in some way contributing to their inability to keep some of the best talent here in FL.

In another post about the Canes and the Seminoles, I mentioned lagging offensive line play.  As much as a hotbed south FL is for hs talent, I believe it is lagging in offensive line play relative to certain other parts of the country, ie Ohio.  Universities from all over the country are recruiting south FL for DB's, LB's, WR's, etc, but the information above demonstrates that universities are not looking nearly as hard there for OL talent.  It blew my mind that not a single Miami-Dade OL starts at any Power 5 school beyond the Canes.
Texas universities recruit OL's heavily from within their state.  FL universities have taken a similar approach, but it is possible that there is simply not enough hs OL talent in FL to go around the state schools and maintain all of them at an elite level, especially with the emergence of USF and UCF and subsequent competition for recruits.
The Canes have two underclassmen starting on the OL.  In today's game, if a kid is going to start as an OL as a true freshman on a Top 25 team, he should probably be playing well enough as a hs senior to start in college.  I don't think there is enough emphasis on OL play at some FL high schools to have the kids ready to hit the ground running in college.  If they were ready, I think we would see a lot more kids from FL starting on Power 5 teams outside the state and/or being recruited.  Even some of the colleges that recruit very intensely in FL, ie Kentucky and Louisville, don't have anyone from FL starting on their offensive lines.
All that said, I think we will continue to see lagging OL play at FSU and Miami unless recruiting strategies change and/or FL high schools start emphasizing OL play to a greater extent

There are two issues.  The first one is obvious...NW, Central, Carol City and Norland are crammed into one district.  When 6A was the largest class, Carol City and Norland were not in even in the same region as Central and Northwestern.  They were in region 3 with a number of Broward schools.  So, we created that problem knowing it would be an issue regardless of the system being used.
Second, I don't care for this hybrid approach of using district champions and wildcards based on seedings.  If the use of power ranking averages truly makes sense, then why the hesitation to go all in and use seedings across the board?  Either it makes sense or it doesn't.

It is interesting you say that, because that was my impression.  Years ago, I used to live quite close to Armwood and they seemed to lack an identity.  In the community, I didn't run across any more diehard Armwood fans than I did other schools, probably because it was just one big suburban blob in the Brandon/Valrico/Seffner area that lacked defining boundaries.  There were a lot of "outsiders"  who likely did not relate well to any one school.  Absolutely agree that Plant City is a school with a unique feel for Hillsborough County.  Those folks should be nuts their team is doing well.

I can't effectively address what Vanguard did in their other games as I only attended the Sebring game. My team is Trinity Catholic and I was at those games during the season. All that I can determine is that this Vanguard team only allowed 7 points against Sebring and that was a complementary TD in the last seconds of the game. Was also against a QB Williams who had a .704 passing percentage and a team that was averaging just under 40 ppg.  The thing to consider is that Vanguard is the only undefeated 6A team in the state. No matter how they won those games, they did win them. I understand your analytics and appreciate them. Whether they are real time concerns, I don't know. Coach Farmer's concern is getting his team ready to take on another very good team in Lake Wales with an even more prolific passing attack than Sebring. However, as I see it, Lake Wales is going to have enough on their plate in finding a way to stop 6' 5" WR Leonard Manuel and tough dynamo RB Kimo Clarke. Not an easy task.

General comment here.  I am baffled today when I hear folks talk about travel as an issue.  Sure we have to be fiscally responsible.  But it seems odd to me that travel becomes a red flag when so many teams today, even weak ones, are justifying long treks to play OOS teams and/or teams from other parts of the state.  In the dinosaur days, we had fewer classes and some regions could be much more spread out.  We had teams from Miami traveling to Pensacola to play in title games.  And travel was potentially more challenging 40 years ago.  If anything, traveling today is much easier.
The world is much smaller today, and with our current mindset, I would think travel would be much less of a consideration than in the past.  We want more teams in the playoffs, we want teams earning home field advantage, we want equity amongst the classes, etc etc  All those desires come at a cost.  There is no free lunch.  Travel could be one of those "costs."
If we are watching our pennies, how can we justify the aforementioned travel?  And how can we have classes that necessitate multiple teams from the northern part of the state having to travel to Pahokee for playoff games?  If travel costs are a red flag today, I have lots of holes to poke at.
