it’s always tough around this time of the year when your seasons over. It’s been 2 weeks since our season ended in round 2.

But as I look back at our season as a whole, I couldn’t be more proud. We started the season (0-1) in a 26-21 road lost to plantation, in a game Dillard just made to many mistakes to overcome.

we followed that up with 4 consecutive wins to improve to (4-1) only to have our season halted & went a month without playing a game. Only for the first time we get back on the field is in week 8 vs our most hated rival where we lose our starting Qb for the year in the second quarter due to a broken leg, and we lose that game to fall to (4-2).

As a team we could’ve gave up, we could’ve held our heads and just chalked it up that this year isn’t our year. But instead we go on to play 3 games in 6 nights. “2 being district games” & finished the regular season (8-2).

time to clap our hands right? Even through all the adversity we get to host a first round playoff game right ? WRONG. Instead we were rewarded by having to go on the road for a two hour drive & face (10-0) John Carroll Catholic who came in avg over 45 PPG.

in the past, Dillard loses that game. Wether it was due to coaching, lack of team maturity to play on the road in the playoffs in hostile territory, etc. but instead we went up there put belt to ass in blowout fashion & won the dam game.

We can breathe now right ?, we made it to be second round. WRONG AGAIN. We were really awarded this time LOL, we had to go on the road again to matchup with #29 in the nation #1 in 4A American heritage.

Being Little ole Dillard, with no *4 Stars no *5 stars, no recruits, a freshman backup Qb thrown into the fire week 8, we were projected 28 point underdogs.

How did we respond ? We went in jumped out 14-0. Led 14-0 at the half. Being the first team this year to hold the patriots scoreless in a half, especially at home.

okay, it’s the second half heritage is sure to wake up and blow Dillard out the water now right ? , not so fast. With 6 min remaining in the 4th quarter Dillard still led the patriots 14-10.

unfortunately for my panthers a few plays in those final minutes that could’ve put us over the top and won us the game didn’t go our way & we lost 24-14. Still holding heritage to their lowest total point total this year.

With all that said. There are no moral victories in sports. But the growth I’ve seen in this team over the course of this year, the fight, the triumph through adversity, I’m just so dam proud of this team. If we can keep this squad together & make strides during the off season. Dillard will be a top 3 threat in 4A next year. Until then #GODILLARD!!!!

They did better than I thought they would. Facts Mr Dillard: To make it to this round ya gotta have the elite transfers. Id call it a successful season. Very few transfers so most the team was from the Dillard neighborhood, which is always good!

you gonna catch some games at FIU?

Good season for Dillard. They have something to build on for next year. Bad draw in the playoffs facing AHP so soon. But you went down fighting and had a chance to win the game.

Yessir. Appreciate the love darter. The first year under head coach meechie we went (6-5) last year with a blowout first round playoff lost.

in his second year we went (8-2) advanced to the second round & was 5 min away from advancing to the reigional finals against a national opponent on the road.

so most definitely a lot to build off I’m excited to see the leaps and bounds we can make in year 3.

The goals is most def to catch atleast two games at fiu for the state championship this year.

and I appreciate the love bro. The growth in this team most definitely impressed me. And that game vs heritage most definitely had me already for next season and we’re not even finished with this one yet lol.

If everyone stays home, Dillard has a shot at making a legitimate statement next year and I could see a state title appearance and possible win next year. IF AHP wins state this year, which they are the favorite right now, it would put Dillard's performance into an even more favorable perspective.

    • No doubt the 1984 win over Manatee remains one of the top 10-20 wins in Lakeland history, and at the time it was the biggest win. Tying it back into Panhandle programs, Lakeland ended up getting beaten by two TDs by Pensacola Woodham...who then beat Miami Southridge by two TDs for the state title.
    • Can't count on FHSAA to do what's right or makes sense so we have to look elsewhere.  I'm still learning about SSAA and I still have questions concerning their bylaws. It's a growing league and I think it will soon surpass FHSAA in membership.
    • Agree. Everything could be avoided if they did what i said. Consolidate classes down to 4, and force teams who have a set number of transfers participate in an open division. Come up with a number. 5 transfers per year. Whatever number seems right. That way the all star transfer factories can duke it out for one title, and the other 4 playoff brackets will at least be a respectable.    If they create the open division with 7-8 classes next year, every bracket is gonna be beyond embarrassing and make Florida the mockery of the country. You will have glorified 2nd round losers being called state champions
    • I hope it grows too. To about 500 members! Some of the SSAA teams were or would be playoff teams in FHSAA.  You are correct, they have zero chance of winning a championship in FHSAA.  Some are figured that out. About 400 or so need to come to the same conclusion.
    • Most Manatee die hards, consider the 1993 title game against Southridge, a nightmare game where anything that could go wrong did in fact do that. I want to say Southridge had 2 kickoff returns for TDs, 1 Punt return for a TD, at least 1 (possibly 2 INTs returned for a TD), I believe there was also a hail Mary at half for a TD. The 1984 19-14 playoff loss to Lakeland, probably burns in die hards guts than the 1993 contest. Manatee was a heavy favorite going into that game, but 2 turnovers inside the Lakeland 10 proved ultimately to be Manatees undoing and denied Manatee any chance at back to back titles
