My Picks for 8A Regions 1 & 2 (Round 1)

[Pipe Dreams]

Most interesting field I have ever seen in Florida's top class. I haven't done pickem's in a while but will for the top half of 8A. I think we will see some excellent games.

Spruce Creek 14 @ Winter Park 21

Apopka 34 @ Seminole 27

Boone 10 @ Flagler Palm Coast 14 

Lake Mary 3 @ Wekiva 10

 

Region 2

Manatee 14 @ Osceola 31

Davenport Ridge 14 @ Dr. Phillips 27

Gateway 10 @ Sarasota Riverview 28

Olympia 7 @ Vero Beach 35

 

Right now I like Apopka & Wekiva in region 1, and Vero/DP/Osceola in region 2. My pick would be Wekiva and Vero Beach for the final four as of right now. That would be an amazing matchup of elite offense vs elite defense. Both of those teams can be upset, which makes it very interesting.

Spruce Creek 10 @ Winter Park 31   Winter parks offense to much to handle for Spruce Creek.

Apopka 34 @ Seminole 35   Seminoles passing attack helps them edge out Apopka in a shootout. 

Boone 17 @ Flagler Palm Coast 24   Don't know to much about FPC but i'll give them the nod.

Lake Mary 21 @ Wekiva 18   My upset pick in region 1, Lake Mary Sneaking by Wekiva on a late Field Goal.

 

Region 2

Manatee 14 @ Osceola 35   Osceola to much for manatee

Davenport Ridge 24 @ Dr. Phillips 21   My upset pick in region 2, Ridge gets a late score to move on.

Gateway 10 @ Sarasota Riverview 38   Sarasota handles gateway 

Olympia 21 @ Vero Beach 31   I see Olympia giving Vero a good game but falling short.

 

Right now I like the winner of the Seminole & Winter Park game in region 1, and Vero/Osceola in region 2. My pick would be Winter Park and Osceola for the final four as of right now.

Wekiva 28 - Boone 7  Too much D.

Apopka 28 - Winter Park 27  Apopka start to get hot I can't see them losing in this one.

Dr Phillips 21 - Osceola 24  Osceola survives with a game winning field goal. 50/50 game should be a great one similar to there last playoff meeting.

Vero Beach 31 - Riverview 21. Don't know to much about Riverview so give Vero the nod.

Wekiva 21 Boone 7 - Boone does not have enough offense to win

Apopka 35 Winter Park 31 - Homer pick on my part. See this as a 50/50 game

Osceola 28 Dr. Phillips 27 - Another 50/50 game. I give Osceola the home field edge.

Vero Beach 28 Riverview 24 - Vero Beach has a lot of weapons. Riverview seems decent but I think VB wins at home.

if, the nasty word that it is, dp former OC hadnt put some crazy wild cat in and let that kid throw the ball, which ohs returned for a td, that game isnt close at all.  Marvin was more than capable as a runner and a fantastic passer of the ball.  was at that game and couldnt understand why they chose to go wild cat, with horses dP has.

they dont have those same kids anymore.

i think this game is alot better than anything else on the plate friday.

Osceola was up 14-0 in the first quarter, before the interception it was only 19-14... Tell me again how it wasn't close loll

Wekiva 21-0 Boone won't be able to move the ball but should keep it close with a pretty good defense.  Wekiva wears them down.

Apopka 21-17 I think this game comes down to the end and Apopka scores late to win.

DP  27-14 DP gave Osceola troubles in the KOC and I don't think Osceola can score enough to win the second time around.  

Vero 42-35 I think Riverview might be a little better than people give them credit for but they lose a shootout.

Your margin in the DP game looks too wide. Osceola found a way to win the KOC even if DP gave them trouble. It could happen again.

Osceola will need turnovers to win.  They got a pick 6 in the KOC game and a fumble with DP driving late to win.  Could it happen again?  yes.   I think Osceola is the better team.   I just like DP as a better matchup vs Osceola.

In 2015 West Orange beat DP in the regular season in a great game.  Osceola beat DP close in another great game then turned around and killed West orange.  Why?  Styles of play make a huge difference.  Some teams match up better vs others.  DP matches up well vs Osceola.  I hope it is a good one either way.  The good thing is a local team will advance.  Vero might be too much for both but that's next week.  they might have their hands full Friday as well.

Great game that came down to the end.  Osceola blocked a punt that set up a Fg with 2 minutes left to take a 13-10 lead.  Tanner Ingle returns the kickoff after dropping it about 50 yards to Osceola’s 30.  With 15 seconds left McCray gets forced out of the pocket and a LB steps up leaving a wide open D. Alford for the winning TD.  two really really good programs.  good luck DP next week.

Winter Park took down Apopka 34-24 tonight. The margin and outcome were about right.

WP made big plays when they had to and took advantage of this  Apopka team's defensive weaknesses.

Tanner is a special player. When he is on offense its over. The refs (I believe) inadvertantly whistled on his first motion-sweep which woulda gone for a TD. Refs also took back a second DP TD.

I thought DP was the better team and kept Osceola in the game. DP's defense played lights out - they were juked out of their shoes on an amazing move by the Osceola player on their lone TD. That may have been Osceola's only play over 15 yards. They had the ball the entire 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters, basically. Their game plan was solid.

Overall, very relieved. We lost a ton of these close playoff games back to back to back over the years and it will at some point even out.

no inadvertant whistle they ruled him down.  Not sure if he was or not it was on the other side of the field.  The other TD called back was a hold.  I thought the refs did a good job other than a no call on a hurdle by Osceola then they called Ingle a few plays later for a hurdle.  They blew the first one.  There also was a blindside block on a run play against DP.  I hate the blindside rule especially on an offensive run play.   Tanner Ingle is a great high school player.  Osceola controlled the clock and did what they needed to win.  DP just made one more play.  Teams were very even and game could have went either way.  8A north is wide open.  I don't see a great team in there but someone has to win.  So why not DP.
