Quiz-Hottest Counties This Decade

10 Florida counties have 2 or more public schools who have reached a state final since the 2010 season.  As one would guess, Miami-Dade leads the pack with 7 different public schools who have reached a final. Who are the other nine counties?  And which of those counties has the second most schools (behind Miami-Dade) who have reached a state final?

...so far

Miami-Dade

Broward

Palm Beach

Hillsborough

Orange

Brevard

Leon

Duval

St Johns???

Unless I'm mistaken bartram trail is only public to make states for St John's since 2010

St Augustine made semifinals in 2010 against Tampa Jefferson but i thought they lost and they made semifinals this year but lost to Armwood

Pahokee

Dwyer

Atlantic

I think one more but i can't quite remember who

So I'm gonna say 4 for that county

Orange i think had 3 and brevard i believe had 3

Broward might have 3 but i can only think of 2 (Miramar and Flanagan)

Remaining ones only have 2

Broward also has cypress bay

Yes. I kind of figured. But till Bocefous reminded me, i had forgotten Ponte Verdre. They came pretty close to winning, too!

Darter, remember how well that QB for Ponte Vedre played in the title game ? I thought with their new coach they'd be a consistently deep playoff threat.

...answers below.  Palm Beach is #2 behind Miami-Dade with 4 teams.  Note that the Jacksonville area is represented by 4 teams. Maybe we are not far off from a year with 3 Jacksonville teams in a state final in the larger classes.   Good job to all who participated!

SOUTH FL-14 teams

Miami-Dade -Central, Norland, BTW, S Dade, Northwestern, Carol City, Southridge

Palm Beach-Dwyer, Pahokee, Glades Central, Atlantic

Broward -Miramar, Cypress Bay, Flanagan

CENTRAL FL-8 teams

Hillsborough-Jefferson, Plant, Armwood

Orange-Apopka, Bishop Moore, Dr Phillips

Brevard-Cocoa, Viera

NORTH FL-8 teams

Duval-Raines, First Coast

St Johns-Bartram Trail, Ponte Vedra

Okaloosa-Baker, Niceville

Leon-Lincoln, Godby

Yes, that QB was special. Wonder how he is doing in college ball. Have you followed his career any?

No I haven't. Truth be told, my interest in such matters is fading. Early Bird Specials, a warm quilt, and noisy children and dogs dominate my waking hours :)

For the dogs i suggest throwing a biscuit

For the kids i suggest throwing them a phone

That takes care of the noise issue :)

    • This is probably going to impact several different schools. Sumner will probably lose several key players to transfer. This means some schools are going to be getting unforeseen boosts as well. You'd assume that the schools in that immediate area might benefit. But, in this day and age, some players could end up far away. Tampa Robinson lost their head coach to USC, and their top recruit transferred...to Chaminade in Broward County.
    • As reported by Josh on this site, Sumner's head football coach, Alonzo Ashwood, was dismissed.  No reason for the dismissal was given, but it certainly wouldn't have been based on the team's on-the-field performance.   I've got a hunch the coach crossed one of those pesky rule lines, perhaps one too many times, and left the principal with little choice.   Again, just speculation on my part.   It'll be interesting to see what repercussions this has for the Stingrays.   Here's a link to Josh's article: http://floridahsfootball.com/2024/05/20/alonzo-ashwood-dismissed-at-sumner-after-four-seasons-per-report/
    • Vero’s offense struggled the entire game, the lone score came on a scoop and score via a fumble. White showed the characteristics of a presumed first year starter. His ability is there no doubt, he’ll just need to settle into the starting role.    West Boca was much more effective- leaning on their 4* running back Javian Mallory, can see them having another good year. They would have probably won the game had it gone a little longer.
    • If all the talk from the head coach about Dillard being bigger and better this year and how last year in his first year was a trial and error for him, it better be an easy dub. Lol
    • As For my Dillard panthers , this will be a huge test for us before things crank up for real in the next few months.    right now Dillard will be coming in this game with a lot of questions. Whose gonna be the Starting QB after a lot of controversy in last year playoff lost to ely where the fans and some of the players felt the sophomore back up should have replaced the junior starter after constantly turning the ball over.    the panthers also will be debuting a new OC & a new DC for the 2024 season. Last year while the defense was average to above average. Our offense appeared to be very basic & vanilla with No real offensive schemes to get the playmakers open.    we’ve gotten a few transfers in & promoted a few great players from JV to varsity. & with this being year 2 of Dillards new head coach & being placed in a new district I’m interested to see the adjustments & progressions in this season vs last season.    this has the make to be a very good game if the weather permits for all 4 quarters, but until proven otherwise I’m going to take the knights in this game in a final score of    DILLARD 21 MONARCH 28 what do you guys think of this matchup @nolebull813 @FBGUY1989 @cribboy305
