1. Wekiva  1-0 struggled offensively week 1 vs Jones 17-3. Play nationally ranked North Gwinnett.  

2. Apopka 1-0 beat Ocoee  47-0.  Travel to Bartram Trail week 2

3. Osceola 1-0 beat Lake Gibson 28-14.  Travel to St Cloud in one of the states oldest rivalries

4. Edgewater 1-0 needed a late score to beat Bishop Moore 24-20. Travel to Colonial week 2.

5. Seminole 1-0 beat Lake Howell 38-13.  Travels to Deland in Battle of the Bridge week 2.

6. Dr. Phillips 0-1 struggled on offense again.  Host Timber Creek week 2

7. West Orange 1-0 destroyed Olympia week 1.  Play a good Rockledge team week 2

8. Deland 1-0 beat Mainland 30-20.  Next up Seminole

9. Winter Park 1-0 took out frustrations on Lake Nona.  Host  #15 Oviedo next.

10. Boone 1-0 beat Gateway 24-8.  Host Lake Nona week 2

11. Jones 0-1 lost to Wekiva.  Host Oak Ridge in week 2

12. Bishop Moore 0-1 lost 24-20 to Edgewater.  Host Lake Brantley week 2.

13. Lake Mary 1-0 held off Palm Bay Heritage.  Off next week.

14. Mainland 0-1 lost to Deland 30-20.  Play OOS Bob Jones next.

15. Oviedo 1-0 beat up on Timber Creek.  Next up #9 Winter Park

16. Spruce Creek 1-0 beat Seabreeze 42-0.  Up Next Deltona.

Now if the truth be known, Cypress Creek is  horrible at football and many other sports. In the 20 years I have followed Central Florida football, they have made the playoffs once, and with brothers who were allowed  to play for them since their school did not play football. But still, nice.

Amare Stoudemire payed his senior year of basketball there, and they barely made the .500 mark that year.  Consider that the next year, Amare was in the NBA making waves, and that says all you need to know ...

This is the orlando Sentinel's Super 16.  They don't include East Volusia anymore.  (Mainland and Spruce Creek).

 

1. Wekiva (1-0): Supreme Richardson rushed 25 times for 75 yards as the host Mustangs defeated then-No. 7 Jones 17-3. Next: Saturday at North Gwinnett (GA).

2. Apopka (1-0): Blue Darters rushed for 176 yards and threw for 137 yards in 47-0 win over Ocoee. Next: Friday at Bartram Trail (1-0).

3. Seminole (1-0): Defense held Lake Howell to 90 yards passing and 20 yards rushing in 38-13 win. Next: Friday vs. No. 12 DeLand (1-0).

4. Osceola (1-0): Kowboys rushed 48 times for 295 yards (6.2 avg.) And two touchdowns in 28-14 win over Lakeland Lake Gibson. Next: Friday at St. Cloud (0-0).

5. (6) Edgewater (1-0): RJ Harvey threw for a touchdown and ran for another ace host Eagles won 24-20 over then-No. 9 Bishop Moore. Next: Friday at Colonial (0-0).

6. (8) West Orange (1-0): Nemea Hall rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries in 56-10 win vs.. Olympia Next: Friday vs. Rockledge (1-0).

 

7. (5) Dr. Phillips (0-1): The Panthers were sacked seven times on the road Saturday at Lee County, GA in a 35-3 loss. Next: Friday vs. Timber Creek (0-1).

8. (10) Winter Park (0-1): Daniel Edwards intercepted two passes and Ethan Pouncey picked off another in 48-7 win vs. then-no 11 Lake Nona. Next: Friday vs. No. 14 Oviedo (1-0).

9. (7) Jones (0-1): PJ Jules led the Tigers with eight tackles in 17-3 loss at No. 1 Wekiva.Next: Friday vs. Oak Ridge (0-1).

10. (9) Bishop Moore (0-1): Dylan Brazil caught two touchdowns and tossed at 41-yarder for a score in 24-20 loss at then-No. 6 Edgewater. Next: Friday vs. No. 16 Lake Brantley (1-0).

11. (12) Lake Mary (1-0): Rams made stops in the red zone inside the final minutes for 21-13 win over visiting Palm Bay Heritage. Next: Sept. 7 vs. Tallahassee Godby (1-0).

12. (13) DeLand (1-0): Three players recorded sacks and Rosheen Cuthrell forced to fumble for Bulldogs in 30-20 win over Daytona Beach Mainland. Next: Friday at No. 3 Seminole (1-0).

13. (14) Boone (1-0): Braves forced three turnovers and got two rushing TDs from Owen Connell in 24-8 win over visiting Gateway. Next: Friday at No. 15 Lake Nona (0-1).

14. (16) Oviedo (1-0): Keonte Coffie rushed for 130 yards (TD) and Chris Martinez rushed for 105 yards (2 TDs) in 48-0 win over Timber Creek. Next: Friday at No. 8 Winter Park (1-0).

15. (11) Lake Nona (0-1): Lions were limited to 182 total yards, including 152 through the air in 48-7 loss to then-No. 10 Winter Park. Next: Friday vs. No. 13 Boone (1-0).

16. (NR) Lake Brantley (1-0): Anthony Williams rushed for 168 yards (TD) and Damarius Good rushed for 103 yards (3 TDs) in 35-17 win vs.. Hagerty. Next: Friday at No. 10 Bishop Moore (0-1).
