New Central Florida HS to Open - What Will be the Impact?

North River High in Manatee County is set to open next year.

How will it impact other football programs in the area?  Will its football program flounder, like so many other newer schools in Florida have over the past 25 years?.  Back in 2006, about 15 miles from North River, Lennard High opened.  In the 11 football seasons since then, Lennard has won 33 games and lost 79, including a 0-10 record this past season.  

As Hwy17 mentioned in another post, George Jenkins, a beautiful new school, opened in talent-rich Polk County a while back.  Since 2004, they have won 36 games and lost 103.

What is the common thread of newer schools whose football programs have succeeded?  The 8 schools below are examples, which, unfortunately, are the exception.  The year after each school name is the year it opened.  Note how each of these schools achieved winning seasons relatively quickly.  It seems that once a school gets a "culture of losing," it becomes embedded and very difficult to change.  Sadly, there are numerous examples of this throughout the state.

With Florida's population continuing to explode, new schools are likely the norm, and many of them will be large schools, requiring them to participate in competitive 7A and 8A classes at the onset of the football program. In 20 years, it is scary to think how many mediocre programs we might have if we do not figure out a better way to integrate these newer programs.   In a study of FL hs football programs that began over the past 25 years, nearly half have never won a playoff game, and only 13 have won 5 or more playoff games.

New River will be in Manatee County.  Lennard is in Ruskin, which is Hillsborogh County and serves a mostly rural area (Sun City, Balm, Wymama). According to the news, New River high school will be build to relieve overcrowding at Lakewood Ranch, and maybe Palmetto.  The location of the new school is somewhat rural.  My question is what class will they compete in and if Lakewood Ranch & Palmetto will still be in 7A or drop down to 6A or 5A.

Sure, Oxbridge too.  I really consider them outliers, ie schools that are competing for state titles from the get-go. That would be a difficult feat for a public school to pull off.

another school in Ruskin is slated to open in 2020.  If Lennard struggles to win a game, how will their football team perform?
