Crowd sourced funding for streamed games

Schools and/or the FHSAA should make it possible for fans to chip in towards the fee for broadcast rights. Schools could sell online viewing "tickets" for $10 and people like me could purchase to gain viewing access. My guess is that, with the entirety of the world being the possible marketplace, schools could sell 50 such tickets, which would cover the $500 fee. Or, if they sold, say, 25 tickets, that would wipe out $250 of the fee and then a sponsor could cover the rest. This should be pretty basic stuff. I just see a bunch of old geezers sitting around without a clue on this. If no one sponsor comes forward with $500, the rest of us just get stuck not able to watch the games.

I'm most interested in Lakeland games. So, take this week's Plant game. As is the case every week, nothing is announced with regards to whether the game will be streamed. So, we have no clue as to whether there will be a broadcast. People like me (living in California) are unable to do anything to support the webcast. I don't have a business I'd want to run ads for, so a sponsorship would be ridiculous. As would paying $500 lol. But, if there was an obvious link made available, people like me, people living in Tampa who wouldn't be able to make the drive to Lakeland etc would have the option to chip in $10 to towards streaming the game. Maybe, just maybe, in time this could even turn into a profit-making venture??

But this is all probably too hard for the geezers :D

The FHSAA provides each school with 2 options with regards to streaming games.

1.) Provides schools with the option of securing its own internet access as a means to streaming games during the regular season, the only catch to this is come playoff time the school in order to continue streaming must pay the FHSAA a 500.00 fee per playoff game for the right to stream. The school can do this up until the championship game which the FHSAA has exclusive right for.......so everyone is at the mercy of what ever media forum the FHSAA has awarded broadcasting rights to?

2.) The school can contract through NFHS as its means to secure internet access for the purpose of streaming games for the regular season and playoff games, up until the championship game at no cost to the school. The catch with this option is the NFHS requires a paid subscription in order to view the game, At a minimum that would be 9.99 for one monh to view any game on its Netword nationwide.

School could anticipate the 500.00 fee for playoff games and secure sponsorship for the sole purpose of paying to stream playoff games or come up with any other creative budgetary means to do this, if the school wishes to control how it streams its games.....or just go the route of the NFHS and the only cost at that becomes that of the subscriber

I don't see any way the Lakeland game wouldn't be streamed this week. I usually get a chance to talk to the booster club president each week. But with school out this week, I won't get the chance to talk to him. However, we have had alumni & boosters with businesses stepping up the past few years to cover the fee. The only time Lakeland didn't stream was last year for the first round.....and that was because they missed the deadline to apply for it.

This is obviously a big game coming up and I would be quite shocked if it wasn't streamed. There are a lot of alumni that are close to the program, but live out of state.

Well, I hope you're right. But, it says a lot that someone who follows it as closely as you still isn't 100% certain it will be streamed. Nobody really seems to know and nobody seems to have any sort of way to help get it streamed! I'm sure there are some Plant folks as well who won't be be able to make the drive but would happily chip in to have it streamed.

Only reason I won't say it with 100% certainty is because I do not control it. But, the Lakeland boosters and athletic department are very pro-streaming for the home games. They won't stream away games during the season just because of the cost, but I would think road playoff games would garner sponsors. Although, they won't have to worry about that this year since they'll be home as long as they win this week..

On a side note......looks like Spectrum is going to monopolize the state finals....from their website:

Streaming of the FHSAA State Finals is free to Spectrum customers.

Just would be nice to know for sure, and be able to help out if needed! As it is now, it is a complete mystery as to whether we'll be able to watch Friday. Probably will, but if they won't announce anything, we can't be sure.

Oddly, looks like I'll have no problem viewing the state finals from my home in Los Angeles. Too bad for the people in Florida who don't have Spectrum.

    • FINAL: DILLARD 21 MONARCH 15 In a game that featured one team who was in the state semi game last year in monarch who got even better through the transfer portal in the last few months ; Vs a Dillard team with a 2nd year head coach who has a lot to prove coming into this season after a lack luster 2023 season.    OVERALL- this game had a feeling of a playoff game. Both teams played their starters well into the 4th quarter, add the big crowd for both teams, the hard hits & the bands going at it, it felt like a game with huge implications yet we are only in May.    In my early in the week predictions I had monarch winning this game 28-21 simply because in my opinion they had the better team and the better offense. More skill players & the better line play within the trenches.    THE GAME: monarch came out on their second possession moved the ball down Dillards throat to take a 7-0 lead, only to see dillard come back on their next drive and tie the game 7-7. after that it was pretty much all Dillard. The defense played way better than expected & the offense while have a few kinks to work out showed some signs of being able to be something special come august.    after jumping out 7-0 dillard scored 21 consecutive points to go up 21-7. The knights scored a TD with 2 min left to make it 21-15 but the panthers got 2 first downs to run out the clock to get the victory 21-15. OBSERVATIONS: Monarch is once again going to be very good this year. Their online and Dline is massive. Their 4* running back is one of the best in broward & their overall team is going to give a lot of teams fits.    DILLARD: the panthers are going to be a huge dark horse this year. They look to have another solid defense, they’re not massive in the trenches, but they have some dawgs and appear to be well coached.    with the off season to go , Dillard can turn some heads this season, and they proved that tonight with a good win over a quality inner city opponent.
    • Solid win for a spring matchup between quality opponents.
    • Congrats on the win darter.
