Took the road trip (two lane Hwy100) to Lake City yesterday for the 6A Region 1 Boys Basketball Final. The hometown Tigers edged my Daytona Beach Mainland Bucs 70-65. The "good guys" missed a tying 3 pointer with 3.4 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter, and then fouled the Tiger rebounder, who calmly hit two foul shots, to send the winning Tigers to Lakeland next week and the Final Four. I've never been to Columbia High before but I was impressed with the clean look of this older school campus and it's vast surrounding athletic fields. The home town fans and the working school employees couldn't have been nicer to this old man. Before the game I dined at a local steakhouse and there too everyone was friendly and courteous. You got a nice little town there ColumbiaFan and a pretty damn good basketball team. Be proud young man, we should all be so lucky.

Man I didn't even know you made the drive, I would have been happy to meet up after the game if you had told me lol

I was out at softball for their game which got moved to 3pm and I helped out there until like 6:40 then drove over and got inside just as they were announcing the starters

It was a good game and mainland reminded me a little of what i saw from Lincoln, very skilled kids but only difference was Mainland ran a much faster pace as a team and they definitely had me nervous for a lot of that game

The fans for Columbia were rocking the entire night and it did add to the experience and I got several videos from last night that I posted on Twitter of how loud the crowd got

I may need to post some later, btw which steakhouse you go to?

Also I believe that kid who hit the 2 FT was the QB Jordan Smith lol

It was across the street from Longhorn, maybe Texas something on 90W ? The game was a last minute, spur of the moment thing. I hadn't gone through Palatka, Starke, and Lake Butler in decades. Great one day road trip through old rural Florida. Not much has changed in this part of the state. The exploding packed coastlines of Florida haven't interfered much with this quiet northern middle. Truth be told, the basketball game was just an excuse for the drive. Peace.

My trip to Lake City a year and a half ago, was likewise, a pleasant experience. I was very impressed with the school and the quality football stadium.

Also, I can vouch that Columbia fan is a decent young man who loves his Tigers!

After looking at some of your pics, were you the dark haired slender guy leaning against the wall, with an older man, near the Mainland bench at game's end. If so, I was wondering if that might be you !   :)

Nah I was over on Columbia side at ground level

I walked by the mainland bench though on my way in wearing a black Columbia softball jacket (it looks similar to a baseball coach jersey)

you weren't with the group on the floor who got the attention of law enforcement sent by the referee ?

Nah I was basically standing near the mainland locker room on the home side of gym at the end of the game where the school adminstration and coaches for football and softball were lol

When I read that,  I did it in my "Morgan Freeman" voice. Not quite sure why, but it just felt like the right thing to do.

    • Nolebull, I'm not sure who you're referring to when you talk about the "jealous" and "disdainful" people.  Bridgewater has put the MNW administrators in between a rock and a hard place.   He basically came right out and said "I've been breaking the rules and if you don't like it, tough sh*t."  The MNW admin folks have two choices:  try to take matters into their own hands in hopes that the FHSAA will go easy on them or, alternatively, put their collective heads into the sand, ignore Bridgewater's public confession and hope that the matter quietly goes away.  Oh, and it ain't going away.
    • Sure, but going about it this way will bring more attention to the absurdity of it all. Teddy is going to be just fine given his finances and reputation. The average high school coach who occasionally spends his own money like that, couldn't overcome getting caught helping.  If coaches REALLY wanted to bring about change, they'd have large email chat groups and decide to all come out together, at once, and proclaim that they, too, sometimes dip into their own pocket to help cover expenses. I suppose the schools and/or FHSAA could always cancel the season so as to administer punishments to all the guilty coaches for their generosity.  tl;dr: JUST SAY NO TO COMMUNISM.
    • Imagine the jealously and disdain you have to have for someone that brought you a state title, bringing in top flight talent, so much exposure, huge showcase game against a national brand opponent, all while forking out your own money to do it for some punk clowns to undermine you and try and push you out. SMH.    You know in SFL you can get really good or really bad real fast. So I wouldn’t shocked if this all ends in a dumpster fire that kids start to jump ship and they struggle to maintain the standard
    • If Bridgewater does get 'taken down,' I'd like to see him take a whole bunch of other guys down with him.  No reason why he should be the singular sacrificial lamb.
