Thank you again. I know that I might be starting to annoy you, but is there anything specific that you can recall about why the officiating was satisfactory in the quarterfinals, but unsatisfactory in the semifinals? You can tell me to buzz off if you are tired of answering my questions. lol

To put it in simple terms, they let the players play in the regional finals, only calling obvious penalties that impacted the play.  In the state semifinals they were calling ticky-tack penalties one play and missing obvious calls on the next.  Probably didn't have an impact on the outcome since they were equally inconsistent.

No, but that 88 Pensacola Pine Forest team we played was ridiculously good.  That year we were 9-3 with our three loses to the 3A, 4A, and 5A state champions... Suwanee, Raines, and Pine Forest respectively.  I think the classifications only went up to 5 back then.  We hung with Suwanee and Raines, but Pine Forest beat us something like 42-7.  They went on to be voted national champs that year.

Raines didn't win state in 1988

 

But yeah Pine Forest was a dominate team that year

Thank you again. I am always interested in finding out and learning about what coaches look for and think about what makes effective or ineffective officiating.

Jambun, I thought the coaches tell the officials throughout each game what they think of the calls being made.

Yes, that is true Perspective lol. However, I meant when coaches are in a relaxed, unemotional, thoughtful frame of mind. Also, when they have had a chance to view the game film. and see the entirety of any situation that occurs during a game.

That Pine Forest team is one of the finest in FL history

I have the results for that team. What’s crazy is that a team from Mobile AL was voted national champ by another publication. Crazy to have the 2 best teams in the entire country that close apart
