Agreed. If the ball was clearly touched it matters not if the kicker was hit after in terms of a penalty flag... it is a block

If the ball gets touched by the defender before the punter gets hit then it’s a blocked kick

Totally agree. Always a good game to see was the Vero - Palm Bay game.

It was before the split with Rockledge. It became to intense with students threats and after game fights so they called it off 5 years ago I believe.

I believe that is what most officials would say why they officiate. To give back to the sport, and stay involved with football.

They are not the national champions for a few reasons. 1. They didn’t play in a National Championship game, of even a game that was remotely close to having national championship ramifications. 2. Auburn finished number 10 after the game. So they beat the number 10 team as their argument. Not the number 1,2 or even 3 team. 3. UCF had close wins against teams who finished unranked. One score games against SMU and USF look really bad. Especially SMU. They didn’t have the grind of an SEC West, Big 10, Big 12 etc. 4. They barely beat Auburn. People keep forgetting the game was a dogfight. They didn’t blow them outs. It was tied 20-20 going into the 4th quarter. The game finished as a tightly contested one score game. Not impressive. 5. Their strength of schedule prohibits any consideration. It was terrible. When your best win is against a 3 loss team with 3 blowout losses you are already behind. 6. And finally, not one credible source named them National Champions, most notably The AP or Coaches. They won some random off the wall computer algorithm. The Colley-Matrix robot is not taken seriously by anyone in college football, and doesn’t have any effect on rankings whatsoever or anything remotely significant in college football.

They were in the same district then too. Classes only went to 4A. Cocoa was 4A some, during that era. Back then Palm Bay was the newest school in the county, to make up only 10 HS in the county.

Many schools, including a couple of elite SEC programs, have claimed "fake" titles over the years, Bama being one of them. I'm a long time Gator fan, but I'm not delusional enough to believe the Gators could beat the UCF team of the past three years.

I wish Vero would play more Brevard teams good competition and in the past had good rivalries with Palm Bay and Merrit Island when they shared the same districts.

It used to be big, at least in the 70s & 80s.
