Larger districts would 100% be the way to go like they were many years ago. However the FHSAA figured out they can make more gate money by shrinking the district sizes and adding more classifications. What are we up to now? 9 classifications= 9 state title game revenue. It’s quite a joke really2 points

Actually, they don't make more money. They probably make less as attendance continues to shrink with the passage of time. So, the trend to more classes may have more to do with giving a larger number of teams a title to compete for. Now this has been largely been made irrelevant as the stacking of teams in the large metro areas will continue to ensure that only a small number of schools have a realistic shot at a title each year, especially with the scrapping of Urban/Suburban classes.1 point -
Playoff Bracket Release

It appears that MaxPreps does not go back and retroactively adjust its rankings for forfeits, where the FHSAA has made arrangements for forfeits to be accounted for in the rankings. According to Josh's article here: https://floridahsfootball.com/2024/07/30/2024-storylines-to-follow-fhsaa-playoff-power-rankings-will-shift-more-toward-maxpreps-rankings/1 point -

FINAL DILLARD 43 JOHN CARROLL 14
DILLARDBOYZ954 reacted to JDHoss for a topic
Their strength is definitely on the offensive side. They have a good RB who is over 1K yards on the year. The QB is a tall kid, probably around 6'3 and mobile. He has three decent WR in #1, #5 & #23 who do a good job of tracking deep balls and making catches across the middle. Defensively, they tackle well and will play hard. I only saw them twice. Against Westwood in the game that was postponed late third quarter because of what turned out to be a false gunfire threat, they had to hang on at the end for a 28-22 win. Jensen was the best team (record wise, anyway) they played. The final was 35-27, but the game really wasn't that close as we left when it was 35-13 in the 4th and Jensen scored a couple of late touchdowns. Jensen finished 7-3, but will get hammered by American Heritage. Again, Carroll is a scrappy bunch that is well coached and will play hard, but I can't see them hanging with Dillard's athletes who have played a much tougher schedule, but that's not saying that Dillard should take them lightly.1 point -

I think you're confusing the 2023 and 2022 teams. The 2022 team went 14-0 and won state. The 2023 team dropped three games and definitely wasn't as good as in 2022. The 2024 team may or may not be as good as the 2022 team, but it is significantly better than 2023. There is no question about this among those who follow the program closely. Now, if you limit the discussion to strictly the offensive side of the ball, I'll give you that the 2024 team is possibly the weakest of the three. But, the team as a whole is considerably better than last season.1 point -

FINAL DILLARD 43 JOHN CARROLL 14
JDHoss reacted to DILLARDBOYZ954 for a topic
In regards to JC yea I see I got them mixed up with another John Carrol but being that you’ve seen them a few times this year, would you say their strength is on the offensive end or defensive end, or were the teams they played were just terrible so they looked good doing everything ? I’ve looked at their schedule a few times & the best team record wise they’ve played was Jensen beach which is (7-3). Idk kangthing about Jensen beach or how good or mediocre they’re but with JC I seen even when they played teams with 5-5 records or below like Westwood, centennial & etc they gave up 20 or more points even in the win. so hopefully our defense can dominate on Friday because I do believe we’re gonna be the best and most physical defense they’ve seen all year so far.1 point -

Not enough players. This story is an embarrassment. Not because they don’t have enough players, but because a team of this caliber could even qualify for the playoffs. A team who can’t even field a team is qualifying. And what’s worse is they came from a 2 team district which is an embarrassment, and they were runner up to the “champion” who went 2-8 and also qualified for the playoffs. This is a shame. I’m disgusted how the FHSAA has destroyed football in Florida.0 points -

The Gainesville Sun had a story about the PK Yonge situation. According to the story, there appeared to be a couple of things that prompted the decision. First (according to PKY's head coach), was that the starting QB had a death in the family and the "Blue Wave would be forced to start a freshman instead." The article didn't get into any specifics (was the funeral scheduled for Friday night? Would the QB miss practice all week? The back-up QB is a freshman -- Heck, if Dillard can play with their 3rd-string QB, why can't PKY play with its 2nd-string QB?). The coach is also quoted in the article as blaming the "short week" (no school on Veteran's Day for PKY). But, here's the excuse that got me. According to the article, a "depleted roster hurt [head Coach] Jackson's ability to formulate a winning game plan." Not, "we simply don't have enough players," but, in essence, "we've got enough players, they're just not very good." So, rather than face the obstacles (and a likely butt-kicking), PKY simply decided to phone it in and call it a season. What happened to "lessons learned on the field will serve us well in the game of life?" Not the way I would have handled things.0 points
