What a start to the season. Could lose the KOC and weeks 1-3. I think you’ll go 2-2 and then win out from there. Edgewater and CG as the teams to beat you.

It's also a shame a top team has to hide athletes in a charter school so they can play down and beat up on the little guys.

Now, see, Jambun, we're not that far apart on this topic after all.
Here's the way I look at it, if Johnny lives in the northeast part of town, but yet he and his family are aware of the storied tradition of Southwest High School, and they believe Johnny's talents and skill set would be a good fit at SHS (and are willing to drive Johnny to and from SHS every day), I don't really have a problem with Johnny making the decision to attend SHS.   Personally, I'd prefer that decision get made before Johnny ever steps foot onto the Northeast High School campus (and certainly before Johnny ever puts on a NHS jersey), but I recognize there may be circumstances in which a transfer might be appropriate (especially if Johnny is a QB or a kicker).
What I don't want to see is the coach from SHS calling up Johnny and his parents trying to convince them that SHS would be the better place for Johnny to showcase his talents.  I don't want the SHS coach making that call when Johnny's in the 8th grade and I certainly don't want to see that call being made once Johnny starts attending NHS.
In short, if a kid and/or his family decide on their own that they want to explore/pursue other options, I'm OK with that.  I just don't think we want to open up Pandora's Box by allowing schools/coaches to engage in a targeted campaign to try and convince particular kids and their families that their school is the better option.

Lol we are talking about high school kids, of course they talk trash. And yes you are correct, Broward and Dade are the prominent counties for football because they have a great pop Warner system, great coaches, and way more people.

I think many in Duval would kill to just have those kind of sponsorships that you have in Lake City. Or the ability to not have to recruit your own kids to get them to stay.

I make a distinction between "marketing" and "recruiting."  Personally, I have no problem with schools doing open houses, group tours, etc. with the ability to emphasize, instead of ignore, athletics.  If Public High School wants to have an open house and invite any kid in the county to attend, I'm fine with that.   And, quite frankly, the only schools that likely will object are the ones that don't have the resources to do even that or the private schools that are already doing it.   As part of "marketing," schools also could tout their athletic programs via social media - which they already do to a certain extent.   But, they could take it a step further in my mind.
I do have a problem with recruiting by schools and coaches.   I recognize the practical reality of trying to police kids talking up their program/coaches with their peers.   I look at recruiting as an effort by a school or coach to target a specific kid who is not otherwise zoned to attend that particular school.   That's where I draw the line.

Jags904 reacted to 181pl in RIP STEVEOPT
A close friend of mine and big a supporter of HS football passed away a few weeks.

Steve and I spent countless hours attending and critiquing football at all levels over the last 16 years. The conversation would usually carry over to the bar or restaurant afterwards. Steve loved supporting local sports, especially Robinson High football, baseball, etc. He also was somewhat of a historian, with a memory like an elephant. Talking to Steve would sometimes transport you right back to childhood when we were discussing local sports legends and the places we used to haunt as kids. He remembered everything.

He also showed up to support my kids (and the kids of many of our friends) for any kind of sport, from middle school soccer and flag football, to high school football, track wrestling, etc.
Steve also mentored and influenced dozens upon dozens of young athletes and encouraged them to stick with their dreams and to stay on the right track. He did so out of experience, and he didn't want them to repeat some of the mistakes he made as a young person. This was especially evident when he was struggling in his last few months with the big C, as so many young athletes, some of whom are current or former pro athletes, and many of whom are now college educated adults, created a constant stream of visitors who came by to check on him and talk.

Our common friends and I will really miss the conversations and stories, whether on the phone, at the game, or at the bar over far too many Miller Lites. You will be missed but never forgotten.

There is a memorial cookout planned for Steve on April 24, 2021 at our mutual friends home.
    Noon to 5
    3900 Pearl Ave.
    Tampa, FL 33611

This is the place where we did some old-school cookouts where several FlaVarsity and BCP members showed up and had some fun swapping stories and eating and drinking. Show up in his honor if you can.

    Rest in Peace my friend

As long as OJ is there and he can keep his staff together? They’ll keep winning.

In some ways, city schools have a huge advantage (more people = more possible athletes) but also a huge disadvantage. I’m sure they have nowhere near the stability of a Columbia nor do they have the community support or funding. In fact, I’d consider Columbia a better job than Lee

Whoa how do you leave an elite academic institution like Jesuit for a garbage ghetto school like Gaither? Talk about having your priorities out of whack.
my kid goes to Gaither and it sucks. Our old address is zoned for it so we let him go. We are pulling him out at the end of the year. He only goes because it’s close to my job and my little ones school. Not worth it

The truth is Vero doesn’t have the athletes or any type of feeder program up this way...Vero isn’t talented enough top to bottom to win an 8a state championship unless an immense amount of luck happened! The truth is they are a consistently good program just not a top tier program...I’m not delusional when it comes to Vero but I don’t think getting smashed by STA or IMG or even some of the elite Dade programs is going to help the program get any better!
