I’ll be at St Aug to see them, Mainland, & Mandarin and may go to Bolles vs UC the next night unless the wife requires me elsewhere.
The BT vs Columbia game will be good as always...you should definitely go @ColumbiaHighFan2017class

Expect legit D1 guys all over the field. One CB (5 star) committed to Clemson with another (4 star) committed to GT. They will be huge on the line on both sides of ball. The offense is pretty basic with the premise being get the ball to an athlete.

Jags904 got a reaction from h8r in Are Spring Games Necessary?
    Yes.
    Here’s why:
    1) Player evaluation. You get to see the guys put on pads and play in a real life situation. How did Timmy look at CB against the best WR in the city? How do John & Jimmy match up against each other come game time?
    2) Play-calling evaluation. How did we handle 3rd & 7 or long? How did our 4-2-5 look against a spread offense?
    3) Offseason lifting evaluation. Do the guys look bigger, faster, stronger than they did last season?
    4) A reward for the kids for putting in the work in spring practice.
    5) Establishing that team’s identity. Did you work hard all winter to make the team more physical? Did that work?
All the spring is, is an evaluation period. At least for good programs with good coaches. Seeing what went well, what went okay, and what just went to hell. It’s an excellent opportunity to get better and any time you can get better is a necessary and wonderful thing.

I would think that Cardinal Gibbons is going to try and push a little harder with the folks in admissions to get some more guys in

Oh yeah they should all win at least one playoff game next year. Oakleaf is one player away on offense and defense from winning a state title I think.

They’ve got athletes, money, and it appears this guy can coach...so yes I would think so. However, I have heard only negative things about the administration.

Jacksonville traffic is the weirdest thing to me. Whenever I travel there on 95 or 10, the traffic is usually ok. You get off on JTB or University or Beach and all of a sudden there is just random stops. No rhyme or reason, just 100s of cars in a small area (no accident, no police).

Orange Park area is even worse though. Everybody rides on the same darn road (Blanding). Yuck, I would sooner drive all the way to Fletcher across Jacksonville rush hour traffic than to ever drive to any of the Clay County schools during rush hour.

There will always be the balancing act of how far will people be willing to drive vs how "nice" of schools do we insist on. I think for Fleming Island, PV, Nocatee, those adults made those decisions. "I want very nice house, no riff raff, and nice schools even if it means that I have to drive an hour each day." I don't think they are going to change their minds in the short term or at least not enough to cause Bolles to have their admissions office flooded with people willing to pay that cost.

Judging by the look of Bolles teams over the past 5 years, they have had vastly less talent than in the past. I think them getting any athlete in is not a reality.

I got out of coaching when I got out because of the changing attitude in school administrations. My wife loved me coaching and wants me to get back into it. Not a chance, especially with the transfer anywhere epidemic.

To be clear, those type of parents and players is a small fraction of most. I love what I do because the majority still respect others that put forth the effort to change lives. The world may be changing but there is still more good than bad.

Bingo. If you get 12 good quality HS football players to transfer in a year, then you should be making a deep run.
Imagine if just your average HS football team got 2 good HS OL. Not D1 guys either, just two reliable players. Nothing else could change and I guarantee that team goes from a 5-5 team to a 7-3 or 8-2 team. Now imagine adding the same thing with a QB & RB, two more WR’s, two more DL, two more LB’s  & 2 DB’s. That’s a team that may win a state title.

Go to any opening day of youth league (or Freshman ) practice and watch the coaches.  The HC will say to his group:  'Anyone who wants to be a wide receiver....go over to Coach so and so.  Anyone who wants to be a running back....go over to Coach so and so...   Anyone who wants to be a QB.....go over to Coach so and so.  Anyone who wants to play defense....Go over to Coach so and so...   The Offensive Linemen group rarely has anyone left, or it s by far the smallest group.
I place the blame on the weight controlled football leagues around the country.  The big kids often are too heavy to play youth league football, and many can't start playing until they are a Freshman in HS.  By this time, it is often too late or the players are way behind the learning curve already.  My experience says that the big boys really don't start coming into their own until their junior or senior years.

Pahokee has a patient administration. they stuck with B. Thompson through some rough years. Walkes, probably would still be the coach if he didn't embarrasses himself and the school/program during the Cocoa game and it seemed as if the team was just drifting with the wind. Glades Central is the program with the short leash. It seams they have 2 seasons to win or some changes will be made.
I think PK will have a new HC and OC from what I've heard, mostly from players. Haven't spoken with any admin or adults associated with the program...so don't quote me!

Of course there are issues (as is to be expected) but this was a very solid job by the FHSAA.
I think we will see some more lopsided scores (4A for instance, nobody will be able to go with Carol City) but on the whole, we have more equal classifications. 8A north got better, 7A south got better, 6A north got better, and 4A north got better. Excited for the upcoming season, hope everybody is back to work.
