101st EDITION of KOWBOYS VS BULLDOGS

Friday night we play rival St. Cloud for the 101st time qualifying the game as the 5th oldest rivalry in Florida and 20th oldest in the entire nation.  Still wish it were played as our final game as in years past, but as has been expressed in another thread "The Times they are A Changing".  The past couple of decades it hasn't been as competitive as most folks would want and this year that trend will probably continue unfortunately not in St. Cloud's favor.  The kids will play hard on both sides as tradition demands that effort and pride.  Will be there with my oldest son plus possibly other family/friends and will post results later that night.  GO KOWBOYS!!

That was taken from our local paper (Osceola News Gazette - 09/11/2024) and describe as one of the "20 longest running continuous rivalries" in the US.   That is where I got it if you want to check, so no intent to mislead but 101 years is pretty long.

Thanks for your view, but according to some on this forum when it comes to rivalries you never know no matter how lousy the opponent.

Haha no excuses. I never understood when someone says “they are rivals” or “it was raining”  as a reason for why the game between a superior team and inferior team was close. 
 

It’s the same for everyone. It doesn’t rain only on the losing team. The losing rival isn’t the only team the game means something to.

You original post just said “oldest” not “longest running continuous”

huge difference. No biggie. Either way it’s awesome that they can play this long. These are the games that mean the most. Regardless of how bad one of the teams are.

You're sticking to the trend as of late and it certainly may end up that way.  My thing is not to disparage the other team nor pound our chest by beating an inferior team by 40+ as we play them because of the aforementioned tradition.  My take is if they get points it will be late vs subs as it is pretty clear they won't be able to run it and last week we chased the South Dade QB all over the place but he had wheels.  Passing wise they will have to dink and dunk as Logan King (QB) will not be able to escape the pressure. Our staff will reward subs with playing time if it does get out of hand early.

I wish I could the early history of each team. I have all the results for Osceola from 1948-2024, and St Cloud I got all the scores from 1946-2024. 

I need the scores before those years. I got some sprinkled in but not enough

No need, just giving you a bit of love back.  Hopefully, we will use Taevion judiciously like we did against So. Dade (8 carries - 80 yards) as he will need to be back close to 100% vs Jones next week.  People that haven't seen him play don't realize the weapon he is and how our offense revolves around the things he can do.

As it turned out, this last prediction was pretty close as the score ended up 49-6  ........... AT HALFTIME!!  Taevion ripped off a couple of long TD runs on his first 2 touches to set the tone and don't know that they used him much after that.  Running clock for the entire second half so my son and I left once we scored again late in the 3rd qtr. start of 4th, 56-6 as there was a good crowd on both sides.  Their kids fought hard the entire game, but were just outmanned.  Used lots of backups throughout the game and looks like we didn't suffer any critical injuries so really nothing else to add. Like I said. You could combine the best starting 22 from all 7 other Osceola County teams, and Osceola High would destroy them.
