Obviously never knew the guy personally, but seemed like the kind of guy you want on your team in the trenches and a man of great character off the field.  Seems like the kind of guy you drink beer with at a BBQ.

Saw lots of work he did in the Boston and Houston community over the years...

I wish the video still existed, but when I was a sophomore/junior in HS and just moved to the area, Wilfork was a senior at Santaluces. I didn't know him other than the PB Post was making a big deal about him and his talents. That year, Santaluces was playing Glades Central at Santaluces in a game that was televised live (so probably 1998 or more likely 1999).

In 1999, getting a regular season high school game on TV was a big deal. This wasn't a state championship just one of the opening games of the season. Glades Central was reigning state champion in 4A (classes were 2A-6A). Wilfork was a nationally ranked player, excellent shot putter and discus thrower which is how I knew of him as a kid who was an average track and field kid.

Anyway, Santaluces gets on the field, drive stalls. Who is sent in to punt. Vincent Wilfork and all 300+ lbs of him. What happens, poor snap and Glades Central runs over poor Wilfork and I think returns it for a TD or at least good field position. This probably happens another 2 times before the coach quit punting and just kept going for it each time. Still my lasting memory of Wilfork.
