Makes winning a state title a lot less meaningful. If you’re in Division 6, then you’re the best of the turds. Not the best of the schools your size.

Hate it.

School size is irrelevant these days

There are 1a schools who would easily beat schools with 4k kids

When teams can load up on players in urban areas while others are feeders to other schools it makes the entire enrollment thing garbage

Here's what I dislike the most about it: Take an above average small town public school. There are several I can name. This school goes 8-5 then 13-1 so using their maxpreps.com average their ranking is really high. But guess what, this school just graduated a lot of seniors from the 13-1 team and likely to be down this year.  So instead of being in a class/district where they know they still have a shot now they have to play the best of the state when obviously they are not what they were the prior year.

Yeah I'm aware of that, in fact i think Columbia will end up in that category in a few sports

Which is why I've been suggesting that they should take the rankings at the end of the season and then separate teams because that way it would be fluid year to year

Better yet, a 5a  team goes 7-4, and 8-3 the prior two years but returns 8 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense this year. Maxpreps.com ranks them in the 200s so now  this school is expected to win a waterdown class.

Keep in mind that football isn't on the current docket for these changes

Just the other sports

In any case you bringing up points I'm sure that other athletic directors and coaches have brought up

I still stand by idea they should split at end of regular season

@Hwy17 The proposal no longer effects football. They pulled football from the changes. Only affects baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

@ColumbiaHighFan2017class is right, shrink to 6 classifications. Pull top 64 and another 64 (if you must) from just before district tournaments where we keep districts and classifications. Have those Division 1 and 2 teams play Saturday of district tournaments for 1st round of games. Teams that in the top 64 must move up 1 classification the next year.

I still think long term a promotion and relegation system (based on district records) work better than the MaxPrep rankings.

As an aside, I think the FHSAA did a MUCH better job with the power point than the football playoff one. When you actually run through and put the teams in the correct divisions so that coaches can see what they would face, I think that this putting in the work. Good job to the FHSAA on that.
