Maxpreps ranked Vero #1 in 8A that's pretty much cursing us in the playoffs now, not sure how they came up with that one as much as I love my hometown can't support that ranking when you look at the other teams, top 5 yes, number 1... not so much:

One positive trelle is I don't see the kids at vero getting an inflated ego over something like that. When I was coaching at FPC the year we beat manatee in the second round, the following USA today super 25 had us at 25. It was the kids of death, the kids essentially thought plant would bow down to us and that wasn't the case. From my limited time around coach J he will still have the kids keeping things business as usual.

Maxpreps rankings are irrelevant in long run

This is playoffs win or go home

Rankings can fix themselves during the off-season

I know I just hate high ranks call it superstitious. I played for Vero back in '03. Beat Pahokee in the kickoff classic, went 10-0 regular season, won first 2 playoff games and then USA Today ranked us like #17 in the nation, next game after the rankings Venice knocked out our asses out from under us I think 35-10, when we had been scoring like an average of 48 ppg and def was only giving up like 8 ppg. It only gives the other team a bigger target and makes your team get bigger heads I like flying under the radar myself. Rankings are numbers I'd rather be #12 in 8A but bring home a championship then #1 in the playoffs and be one and done ya know.

Hopefully so Bo, as I said though I was there and we had always played level headed but when your 16-18 years old you just knocked off your county rival with that defense and you get ranked like that afterwards, I can see it still getting the best of kids, it did us. Hopefully it doesn't but it easily can.

I hear you

I accually think Columbia got a better shot to get to states this year just because we flying under the radar so I enjoy being unranked means no pressure compared to being top ranked in region like last year

I know it has to do with Vero beating Sebastian River with 28 points but im not ignoring the rest of the schedule because Vero hasn't played a team with dangerous offensive weapons.

Yall think Ridge is better than Sebastian River because they were undefeated and we beat them

Don't know if I would say better because I don't know exactly how good Sebastian River is. But watching Ridge I really like this team, very similar to Osceola they have a physical o-line (that dominated Osceola for the first three quarters) alongside a strong RB, and athletic QB

Venice knocked a lot of people on their asses that year though.   Is that they year they smoked ely 70 something to like 17?

    • This is probably going to impact several different schools. Sumner will probably lose several key players to transfer. This means some schools are going to be getting unforeseen boosts as well. You'd assume that the schools in that immediate area might benefit. But, in this day and age, some players could end up far away. Tampa Robinson lost their head coach to USC, and their top recruit transferred...to Chaminade in Broward County.
    • As reported by Josh on this site, Sumner's head football coach, Alonzo Ashwood, was dismissed.  No reason for the dismissal was given, but it certainly wouldn't have been based on the team's on-the-field performance.   I've got a hunch the coach crossed one of those pesky rule lines, perhaps one too many times, and left the principal with little choice.   Again, just speculation on my part.   It'll be interesting to see what repercussions this has for the Stingrays.   Here's a link to Josh's article: http://floridahsfootball.com/2024/05/20/alonzo-ashwood-dismissed-at-sumner-after-four-seasons-per-report/
    • Vero’s offense struggled the entire game, the lone score came on a scoop and score via a fumble. White showed the characteristics of a presumed first year starter. His ability is there no doubt, he’ll just need to settle into the starting role.    West Boca was much more effective- leaning on their 4* running back Javian Mallory, can see them having another good year. They would have probably won the game had it gone a little longer.
    • If all the talk from the head coach about Dillard being bigger and better this year and how last year in his first year was a trial and error for him, it better be an easy dub. Lol
    • As For my Dillard panthers , this will be a huge test for us before things crank up for real in the next few months.    right now Dillard will be coming in this game with a lot of questions. Whose gonna be the Starting QB after a lot of controversy in last year playoff lost to ely where the fans and some of the players felt the sophomore back up should have replaced the junior starter after constantly turning the ball over.    the panthers also will be debuting a new OC & a new DC for the 2024 season. Last year while the defense was average to above average. Our offense appeared to be very basic & vanilla with No real offensive schemes to get the playmakers open.    we’ve gotten a few transfers in & promoted a few great players from JV to varsity. & with this being year 2 of Dillards new head coach & being placed in a new district I’m interested to see the adjustments & progressions in this season vs last season.    this has the make to be a very good game if the weather permits for all 4 quarters, but until proven otherwise I’m going to take the knights in this game in a final score of    DILLARD 21 MONARCH 28 what do you guys think of this matchup @nolebull813 @FBGUY1989 @cribboy305
