One true state champion

Ok here is how you settle everything on the field. 9 rounds to determine one true state champion. Here’s how it works.

First everyone plays 5 regular season games. Just to warm up, get in rhythm, and gel for the playoffs.

The top 512 teams make the playoffs.

Round 1 - 512 teams

Round 2 - 256 teams

Round 3 - 128 teams

Round 4 - 64 teams

Round 5 - 32 teams

Round 6 - 16 teams

Round 7 - 8 teams

Round 8 - 4 teams

Round 9 - 2 teams for the 1 true State Championship.

That means everyone gets 6 games minimum, and if you lose in the early rounds you can just schedule random games with other teams who were eliminated as well. Up to 4 more depending on what round you were eliminated in.

can I get and Amen?

All I see is a cut to the FHSAA's pockets.  This would be a quick hell no!:D

An Amen for trolling everyone??  If you truly wanted one champion you would leave the 11 week season (10 games) and after the 6th game, FHSAA would put out their rankings based on combination of MaxPrep poll and HS Coaches poll.  That gets update weekly after that till season end and top 32 teams get in.  That would get you to a championship round game in the 5th round just like today.  Chaminade as the #! seed got Carrollwood Day #32 and STA #2 seed vs Vanguard #31 in round one, not the farce you described.

And for those who are proponents of the relegation/promotion plan you can add a Gold Division for those ranked 33-64 plus a Blue Division for 65-96.  So if you are in the top 20%, you get recognized with a playoff spot at your level.  Then everyone can stop making excuses.

District champs only from a 64 district system based on geography.  6 round playoff system.  Runner-ups can have whatever consolation bowl they desire.  Below is sample of what the post season could've looked like based on this year's playoff results for all the teams that reached the semifinals.  That's how your start the playoffs.

Love it. If you aren’t top 64 in the state then you shouldn’t be competing for any type of real championship anyways.

Can't wait for that Columbus-Holmes County matchup in the first round.  (Sorry, just me)

Playoffs would be based on geographical location.  That will help with excessive travel times in the early rounds.  The only way Columbus/Holmes County would meet would be if they both made it that far.  Given where they are both located, this would most likely be a title match.

Okay, Mandarin vs. Holmes County in the first round.  But I get it, glad geography would come in to play.  But at some point you would have to cross-over regions (like they do in Georgia), so that 2 teams from the same region/city could play in the finals, if they happened to be the 2 best teams.

Geography based. Playoff games and seeding would be based on on proximity.  For example, the first round would be district 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc.  From the info I posted back in January, in order for Holmes and Mandarin to meet, that would most likely be a 3rd or 4th round match-up if both teams keep winning.  This approach serves two purposes: 1) limit unnecessary travel and 2) provide a true king of the state experience so no one region will have a sizeable advantage over any other in the later rounds regardless of how many schools may come from a particular city/county.

@Nulli Secundus this is outstanding. I agree with this 100 percent.

imagine in track, the top runners ran the 100 meters in 9-10 seconds. Now just imagine if they broke up the winners by how fast you ran. Meaning there is a 9-10 second champ. A 10.1-10.5 second champ, a 10.6-11.0 champ and so on. That’s how stupid 9 “state” champions sounds.

We need one true state champion.

Just for comparison, are there other states that do this, and how is it received?  Kentucky comes to mind in high school basketball, but I am not aware of any other states that have a single championship bracket in football.

No there isn’t any for football. Some small states only have 2 or 3. But that’s more of the fact they don’t have a lot of teams

For an Open division, they need to assemble a committee of people who know the game and follow the sport to vote, like the CFP. I know most are invertebrates who'd rather be able to blame a computer for unpopular decisions. But, the rankings the last two seasons demonstrate they have no clue how to get an algorithm to spit out reasonable results. A committee can answer to the public and the coaches before schedules are set, as well as during the season and after the selections. A computer offers no answers and no guidance to stakeholders.
