Early Season 2006 State Poll and What Happened to Each Team

Thought this interesting because it gives perspective on who the favorites were at the beginning of the season in 2006.  Also shows how different the classes looked back then.  Fantastic state finals at Dolphins Stadium in Miami in 2006.  2 multiple OT finals (2A and 5A), 4A final decided on last second TD pass, and 1A final came down to the final minutes.

Interesting observations...

6A - How many times Deerfield Beach has been a favorite at the beginning of a season, only to disappoint.  It's a tradition!  Boone surprised all by making the state semis, where they lost a close one to Lake Brantley.  N Miami Beach surprised all by making the state semis, where they lost to Northwestern.  S Plantation made a rare trip to the 3rd round, beating Carol City in the 2nd round.

5A - How often do you see Hollywood Hills ranked?

4A - Seabreeze made it to the 3rd round.  They had some good teams in the 2000's. Plant surprised all by winning the state title 25-21 over Nease....its first state title.  Beat Arwood and Booker T Washington in the playoffs.

3A - Bartow surprised all by making the state semis, where they lost to Glades CentralPine Forest surprised all by making the state final.  ..some interesting playoff matchups in 3A, unlike 3A/4A today.

How was Osceola ranked #4 that early in 2006.  They went 2-8 in 2005.

I believe that is the 2007 early season poll.

On a side note that was a brutal district with Osceola, Lakeland and Lake Gibson.  In 2006 Osceola was beating Lake Gibson and Lakeland in the 4th quarter and failed to make the playoffs.  In 2007 Lake Gibson missed a FG at Osceola at the end of the game and failed to make the playoffs.

maxprep finnal state rankings for each team

2006 Lakeland 1, Lake Gibson 15, Osceola 54

2007 Osceola 10, Lakeland 15, Lake Gibson 24

You are absolutely right...that was the 2007 poll.  I fixed the original post and the 2006 poll and correct comments are now listed.  Thanks for pointing out my error badbird!

No, it was 2006 or at least the 3A poll is. Hardee and Bartow played twice that year, both games went into OT. The playoff game was actually 4 OT. 2006 was Darren Bryan's last season as Hardee head coach.

I mistakenly posted the 2007 poll but fixed it and what is there now is the early 2006 poll.  Loved 3A back in the 2000's.  Seemed like a different team won the title every year.
