As for Bama kids, nobody zones those kids. Tgey can chose Bama for multiple reasons. But imagine a QB is at UAB, he is awesome. He then transfers to Bama. Is that fair after UAB molded, coached him, that now he is good for Bama just to take him?

Hi Gatorman...it's not fair that I mentor an intern in the business world...spend tons of time and money on him, and then he leaves.  But that's business.  As you know, college football has been a big business for ages and hs football is now.  The people making money off the athletes and the highly recruited athletes are in this for business reasons...money and scholarships.  Coaches getting bonuses from booster clubs for winning or being threatened with losing their income for not winning... yep, coaches are acting like businessmen now, too.

I'm afraid the innocence of hs football is over and there are some who could really care less what fans think is "fair."  Usually the case when that much money is at stake.

If HS football is a business now, then us coaches are terrible business men. We sure as heck aint making no big money.

From everything that I can gather there are a few, very few, Head Football Coaches in Florida that make decent money. Most, who are not also teachers, are paid a subsistence amount as most have full time jobs outside of coaching. Those that are full time teachers and also coaches I believe are only paid their teacher's salary. I'm assuming that most assistant coaches are not paid a salary and do it out of dedication to the sport and/or to the players. If others have some recent statistics or have been in the game for awhile and know what transpires please add your thoughts. I'm mostly guessing.

Coaches are given a small stipend to coach but the number is well below average

In fact FL is very close to the bottom of pay for coaches which is why so many leave the state

A lot of coaches do work full time somewhere else so they can make money because the teacher pay is very low

Well unfortunately in this day and age winning a championship is the only way to gain respect because in people's mindsets either your a champion or your trash

That's the mindset that's been created because of these all star programs that beat decent teams and teams who would have been considered good 20 years ago and make them look like a jv squad

The only way you get respect is to win a championship? What?

Everyone outside of Lake City will say Columbia is a garbage program until we can win a state championship

Without a championship we will be stuck with a failures reputation

Man the only reason ppl say that cause you prompt them to be better then what they are.. Columbia is a respected consistent program that just can’t win a championship..

I never claimed them to be a national elite in fact I've grown to not even care where we ranked nationally

Only that we are good enough to win our region and make it to state finals

Our long term history of dominating this region is backed up by facts :)

Columbia.........................St. Augustine hasn't won a championship in nearly 40 years. 1979 was their last. Absolutely nobody, who knows anything about HS football, would ever attempt to call their team garbage. In fact they are a well respected team, year in and year out, and even feared by some. I don't know one person who thinks that Columbia is anything but one of the top teams in northern Florida.

You are right on top of that, I see. Must have missed 05 when they defeated Booker T for the championship. The point is still made that St. Augustine, no matter what division they are in from 3A to 6A, almost always plays in the championship game or last round before. But, in almost every case they are the bridesmaid never the bride. Can't imagine the frustration of coming up against the same teams in Orlando and losing every time, and mostly not by much. :(

Probably the same frustration I've had with losing in a playoff game despite being favored 5 out of 6 times since 2012

I can easily pull up better wins then Gainesville and Suwannee

Here's just a small list of teams we have beaten since 1991 in regular season or playoffs

Apopka

Vero Beach

Raines

St Augustine

Valdosta

Pensacola

Lake Brantley

Niceville

Bradenton Southeast

Palm Bay

Tate

Sandalwood

Lincoln

Bolles

Trinity Christian

Bartram Trail

Deland

Fort Walton Beach

Choctawatchee

Mainland

Clay

North marion

Jones

Godby

Fleming Island

Baker County

Escambia

Just to name a few

So tell me, how many North Florida teams can say they have a better list?

Heck you went back 27 years....should have went back 51 years. At least then you could have included a state championship into your post. :D

The point was more about showing that we do a heck a lot more then beating up little baby brothers like Suwanee and Gainesville

1991?  You were not even born then.  What year did Columbia beat Apopka in the regular season or playoffs?

The 90s was when Columbia started to have consistently successful seasons

Only 2 years of .500 or below since the 90s started so that was the best place to start

1991

Columbia 22

Apopka 21

Week 3
