Which Teams Have the Largest & Smallest Trophy Cases?

64 teams have won 25 or more FHSAA playoff games.  In 1975, the "regional playoff/title" was born.  Since then, 58 of these teams have won 5 or more regional titles.  Since 1975, of those 64 teams...

St Thomas Aquinas and Glades Day have the largest trophy cases, figuratively speaking.  Only 5 teams have won 15 or more regional titles.  Pahokee, Fort Meade and Trinity Christian have all won 14.

Columbia and Gainesville have the smallest trophy cases. Gainesville and Lake Gibson have both, at times, shared regions with Armwood and/or Lakeland, giving them a very tough playoff path.  Interestingly, Gainesville edged Lake Gibson 10-9 in 2010 for one of it regional titles.

Largest Trophy Cases

St Thomas Aquinas-21 regional titles, 7 state runner-up titles, 10 state titles

Glades Day-20 regional titles, 7 state runner-up titles, 7 state titles

Bolles-15 regional titles, 6 state runner-up titles, 11 state titles

Manatee-15 regional titles, 2 state runner-up titles, 5 state titles

Madison County-15 regional titles, 5 state runner-up titles, 3 state titles

Smallest Trophy Cases

Columbia-3 regional titles, 1 state runner-up title

Gainesville-3 regional titles, 1 state title

Lake Gibson-3 regional titles, 3 state runner-up titles

Tampa Jesuit-4 regional titles, 1 state runner-up title

Immokalee-4 regional titles, 1 state titles

Many schools have empty trophy cases.

And people wonder why some people are having the mindset championship or bust

Only so many times a team can make playoffs and come home empty before the "can't win the big one" attitude becomes prevalent

Even some of the most respected programs in the state haven't won a ton of state titles despite getting many shots in the playoffs, survive and advance is the game but only way to be viewed elite is to bring home the gold,  otherwise they are just "another team"

Truthfully i feel bad for some of the programs out there who haven't been able to win state yet there are schools that seem to win every few years and are lining the trophy cases up like a stacking shelf

A coach compiles a 68-13 record including 4 unbeaten regular seasons but is 6-6 in the playoffs losing out in the first round twice, second round 3 times and 3rd round once. Fans mad because he can't win the big one.

...unrealistic expectations.  Now we have teams making playoffs more often("we lost again"), all-classification polls overhyping teams, people on line overhyping teams.  One week after state finals the next year's preseason poll is out.  etc etc

It creates an environment ripe for disappointment.  HS football went from something that the average person thought of once per week, 4 months out of the year, to being in your face non-stop.

In the dinosaur days of kids playing multiple sports, as soon as football season was over it was on to another sport and not much time to mull over a season-ending loss.  I think it was good to take some time off from football to recharge batteries.
