...for folks in southwest FL, it will be tough to choose which of these two games to attend.  Naples' only loss came against Miami Palmetto, and BC lost to Superior Collegiate.  Charlotte's only loss came against Venice.  Based on results so far this season, would think Naples and Charlotte are solid favorites.  Any SW FL folks with opinions?

Barron Collier(7-1) @ Naples(7-1) 6AD12 matchup to decide the district champion.  "The Crosstown Showdown" rivalry game.  Naples has won the last 19 games, including a 16-15 win last season.
Charlotte(7-1) @ Port Charlotte(6-2) 6AD10 matchup. Charlotte has won the past 5 meetings.  The last 2 games have been decided by less than a TD.

This could/should be its own thread.  There is so much to talk about in this game...defensive clinic.  The tabs with added information are incredible.  Holding this Lakeland team scoreless in a half of play...look at the statistics at 1:04:26....amazing  ....the hit at 51:55.

Here is another pretty good one from 2012. No big names on that year's Lakeland team. They were able to hold on to win 28-27 in OT, but you could see the progression of Kathleen that would really be evident in 2013 when they beat Lakeland for the first time since '92.

I would say Naples and Charlotte are slight favorites.  A Barron Collier or Port Charlotte win would not be a hugh upset.  These teams pretty evenly matched from what I see.

There was a year the Lakeland vs Kathleen game got cancelled; 2002 I believe.  I thought Kathleen would have won that game had it been played.

2003. Polk County cancelled the game because 4 Lakeland players came down with Meningitis. Lakeland ended up 6-3 that season and lost in the first round. Kathleen was pretty good and likely would have won that game going away. There are still Kathleen people that think it was a conspiracy to keep them from winning and breaking the streak.

Does anyone out there think George Jenkins could give Osceola a run for the district champion this year? I haven’t heard  an awful lot of hype about Osceola this year.

No. Jenkins did well with their easy early season schedule. But once they hit the tougher part of the schedule, they got handled. I would love for them to pull off the upset, but I don’t see any chance of them hanging with Osceola.

Osceola year in and year out never gets hype, but they are always a solid team.. As for Jenkins having a chance i would say no, i watched them against Gateway and they could not stop the run. Just off that game i can't see them stopping Osceolas running attack either.

Apologize in advance if I am getting my games mixed up.  I watched some of the Lakeland v Jenkins and if I remember correctly, Jenkins had a young, big qb who was very mobile and who could throw the ball...quite impressive.  If I am remembering correctly, who is he?  He was moving the ball, at least in the first quarter.

Junior QB named Starks. Good athlete, duel threat kid

But gwdrum is correct, GJ was beating poor teams to start the year. Osceola will pound them.

...some games tonight with interesting storylines

Palmetto(7-1) @ Killian (3-5) 8AD16 matchup     Big rivalry game for the "Cat Trophy."

Norland(3-5) @ Northwestern(3-5) 6AD16 matchup     A 4-loss Norland team shocked Northwestern last year...likely two of the better 3-loss teams in the state now

Deland(7-1) @ Sandalwood(5-3) 8AD1 matchup     Sandalwood has won the last 3 meetings easily..is this Deland's year?  If Deland wins and Mandarin loses to Palm Coast, it's a 3-way tie in the district race.

Flagler Palm Coast(7-2) @ Mandardin(5-3) 8AD1 matchup.  FPC has won 4 of the past 7 meetings, including a 24-17 2OT win last season.
