Regardless, even if the pairings are, in fact, okay, it's situations like this that warrant more transparency in how the rankings are determined. 
The exact formula used needs to be made public if I am to have confidence that they are doing this thing correctly.
 

Count me in.   And the good thing is that I can rely 100% on the FHSAA Power Rankings to make my picks. Now that the regular season is over, the ranking should be perfect!

I think our resident official is a prime example of your final paragraph, except I would liken him to a judge (or maybe a stern principal) rather than a classroom teacher.

I'm leaning towards "No Contest" early in the 4th quarter.  

Lake Mary dominated most of the game and it took a crazy last 6 minutes for the noles to win. Nice job and guts but doubt it happens again. Usually, the team that dominates most of a game wins. I have no dog in the fight, but anyone who can beat APK like that must be pretty darn good and put 70 up on Dr. Phillips.

Just curious, what happened the first time they played or what would happen the next time they play that leads you to your conclusion?

Isn't that the way it works now?  But they just call them District Championships and Regional Championships. 
In my view, if you're still playing games after you win a so-called "state championship," that state championship loses a lot of its luster.   The only thing that would change my perspective on that issue would be a Florida state championship team playing in a national title game/tournament, which doesn't exist yet. 

The current proposal would split out the best 32 teams based on current year rankings into a superclass for the playoffs. So, if it were effective this year: Chaminade, Cocoa, ... Edgewater, St. Augustine, ... Bradford, Eu Galle, ... Treasure Coast, Jesuit, ... Cardinal Gibbons, Carolwood Day, ... Palmetto and Deland, would all be in the superclass if the season had ended last Friday. A cursory look at the teams I have included (they were not randomly selected from the 32) demonstrates the absurdity of this method. There is a world of difference between Chaminade and Bradford or Eu Galle. And I could have included more extreme examples. And these 32 teams would be competing for only one state title: The title of titles, so as to speak. And participation would be mandatory. 
Buddy Collings in the Orlando Sentinel had an article suggesting a modification to the above a week or so ago. In it, he would still break out the top teams. But rather than one title, there would be multiple titles along the way to a grand final for the top title. I forget the details of how the multiple titles would work, but seem to remember there would be at least 3 based on specific criteria. I actually thought his suggestion, on face value had some merit. I see no merit in the current FHSAA proposal for reasons outlined in my first paragraph. 
I do actually have sympathies for a promote/relegate system. But I would use multiple year performance to separate the schools into tiers at the beginning of this process and would use at least two years results before moving a school up or down a classification. That way, ascent/decent would be a gradual process and would not be affected by one special year.  

I've quietly lurked for sometime enjoying the site. So this year I decided to try give the weekly Pick-ems a try. I'm an average FLHS football fan, stuck living in Knoxville, TN. Cocoa alumni from way back, so you know which way I lean. I kinda keep up with the better teams in Brevard and around the state, so that's how deep my knowledge goes. Looking at my current standings, in the Pick-ems, I'd say I'm meeting my expectations. I enjoy the shared info and insight shared here, as well as the opportunity to do so on the site. Thanks to all that contribute and to Josh for the site.

On any given night ... I doubt they would win.
As an Apopka fan I should like the direction Region 1 is going in. We are currently seeded 4 in Region 1. If we beat Wekiva on Friday, there's a strong chance we jump over Winter Park and claim the # 3 spot, as the two teams are rated almost the same and Wekiva, I believe, is more highly rated then Lake Brantley by a bit.  If this happens, we likely get a first round rematch with Evans at home or a game against Hagerty at home. And if Lake Mary beats Mainland they retain the # 1 seed but would likely have to travel to Boone. That would leave Seminole playing either Hagerty or Evans (more likely Hagerty) and Mandarin traveling to Winter Park, where they will have an excellent chance of pulling off the win.
The most likely scenario from the above, is that Lake Mary faces the winner of Mandarin/Winter Park while Apopka faces Seminole at Seminole. Though Seminole beat us comfortably in the regular season, I much prefer playing them than Lake Mary in round 2. And, if Mandarin can upset Lake Mary in their rematch, and Apopka finds a way to edge out the Noles, we would get a dream regional final at our place against Mandarin. 
While the above still leaves a steep hill to climb, it looks less daunting than it did a week ago.
