Broward has it's moments. Deerfield Beach, Miramar, Boyd Anderson, Hallandale and Flanagan all had days of being good. Dade is different like Central for instance has been a powerhouse since 2010.

Actually since Nuke and them boys but they never had coaches... But Dillard I agree with 25% of what your saying.... But kids are transferring everywhere in broward and the school I keep hearing is Deerfied ...... The reason why I think kids are teaming up to play at STA and AHP are their consistent and winning... Their a better environment and maybe smaller classes... Plus those 7 on 7 does not help cause that's where they build up relationships with other kids and their 7 on 7 coaches probably is in their ear pushing them to transfer to those schools... Now and dade is different cause our privates is not in the status of AHP and STA ..... But even tho they were kids still would of been at the publics cause certain coaches faces are clean and respected and from lil league those coaches will push them to certain schools... Watch Jackson come up in a year or 2.....

I still don't believe Deerfield is as strong as the 2015 Deerfield Beach- yet.

I think STA and AHP will generally be top 5 teams in Broward and naturally will draw some of the best talent.  Like you said, better environment, smaller classes....If the opportunity is there for these kids - can't blame them!

Most years there are a few teams that can match STA and AHP.  Last year Flanagan, Hallandale and Deerfield Beach had no problem competing with STA and AHP.  Not sure if any Broward publics will compete with them this year though....  Basically I agree and believe STA and AHP will always be among the top in talent and the publics will rotate in cycles that will occasionally be able to compete with them and match their talent.

I think Columbus could have surely competed with STA and AHP in tight games last year.  Surely AHP.  IMO, Columbus was the ONLY team in Dade late season that could have competed with Central last year.

Until they ran into Flanagan,  Columbus was slaughtering and toying with some decent teams late season- BTW, American , Coral Gables and South Dade.  They outscored those teams late season last year 152-35! Columbus got stronger as the year went on and were better than their 2014 team that went to states IMO.

Last year if you lump Columbus with STA and AHP as competitive with each other you then had a drop off in Privates in both Broward and Dade.  So you have 2 private top 50 National team in Broward and 1 private in Dade.

I think after those 3 many of the Privates in Broward and Dade would compete with each other IMO.

7 v 7s in the spring and summer are generally private so the relationship building is becomes a very grey area....

Jackson has NO excuse not to make the playoffs this year in that straw-house District.

I would say the reason that things have changed since the 90s is simply because back then you could go and get a good education at say STA and play for a pretty good football team. Nowadays, you have an opportunity at a Nationally Elite team plus you get the education, facilities and exposure.  Trust me if STA and AHP had teams and opportunities  in the 90s like they do now, those kids and all their "blood and sweat" would haul a$$ from the publics for better opportunity then as well.  Can you blame them if the opportunity is there?  I sure the hell cant.

Lol I Feel You & I don't Blame them I just Feel Like Why already Further Up the notoriety For the likes of STA & heritage When The public Schools particularly the inner city Black schools can get there Noteriety Up success Brings Money endorsements ETC & how can A Inner city Black schools get That of there Only star player or players are Leaving & all the at least Half Decent Respectable Head coaches are going where the MONEY is taking a job at a black School attempting to Like They say RESTORE the Glory takes sacrifice & commitment.

I have trouble blaming the Coaches as well.  I see it both ways.  Sure, building and/or  restoring something takes sacrifice and commitment but doing so takes 10 months a year and peanuts for a salary at the publics.  Coaches have families and bills like all of us.  FL Public school Coaches do not make that of a public coach in say GA or TX.  If that is your career you eventually take advantage of opportunity - like many fields of work.

STA and AHP do not just get transfers from the inner city black schools.  They tap into Weston, Davie,Coral Springs and Parkland as well. Cypress Bay, Coral Glades all lose transfers as well.  In fact the best current WR and RB in Broward County are zoned for Coral Glades High School.  Regardless of if a kid is from the hood or suburbs, I would think parents would be happy if there is an opportunity available for their child to have a better opportunity at a great education and perhaps a better opportunity at pursuing their athletic dreams....Davie/Western High has had had several D1 and even NFL players in the last 15 years....  Where do you think Buckshot is from?  Carol City?

The inner city Publics are tapping into the privates/suburbs as well but no one makes as much of a deal about it. Kids leaving Columbus for inner city schools. You have QBs at Calvary Christian and a Chaminade-Madonna transfer going to the hood/ publics like Deerfield Beach now.  Some of these kids are flunking or getting kicked out of privates so they go to their best option available and some may be going for a better opportunity at exposure or pursuing a state championshiop....Many kids want to win first and then an education. Many parents (most) want their kids to have an education first and football second. Privates are generally more likely to provide both.

Miami and Broward kids are totally different. Carol City, Booker T. Washington, Edison, Norland, Central, Northwestern and Jackson kids aren't transferring at high rates and one would think they would. Apart of me wants to say academics but that's not possible. Carol City, Northwestern, Norland, Edison and Jackson are all B schools, I mean ideally it's still not the best environments living in of course but these kids would still have to come home even if they went to Gulliver Prep, Pace, Dade Christian Belen Jesuit and Columbus.

I beg to differ...It is just not quite as busy in Dade and simply more public to public - so it is more likely to go unnoticed. Northwestern and Norland have had several transfers this year. Central has had transfers as well... BTW just got a big time player from Columbus, Carol City's star QB last year "Buckshot" was from Davie (Broward County) -everyone is cool with that but when STA or AHP takes a kid from the inner-city schools it is handled and talked about differently. It is always a little more dramatic transfer I don't get it...I think it is great that the inner-city schools are getting tapped into by privates, because it creates opportunity for student athletes.

Why do the kids still "have to come home" if they are going to privates? If my kid was at Gulliver, Pace, Belen or Columbus - he or she is staying there as long as possible and out of the hood. What benefit could a school like Norland have for say a 2* student athlete over Columbus or Gulliver Prep? Not much. That is just me though. To each his own.

It is a two way street, just a little busier and more noticeable in Broward (due to the privates STA, AHP and in 2016 Chaminade) than in Dade.

I Agree With Everything You Said Broward MANY great Points & I for 1 have no Problem With the parents Wanting Education first & a better life for there Kids talent Without education is playing With danger because if u don't make The Pros What do you have to Fall back on??

It Just Suck as A Broward County Public School because there The Ones Losing Here & then They ask Why its so Hard for a Broward public school to Win states.

And also I noticed that a lot of Coaches are Going to coach in Georgia I Know that Pay Got to Be right Lol. All I will like to see is a coach who is not after the Money but Really Want to establish Dominance in a School that's not STA or heritage it Only Takes for the Players To buy in look at the Coach at Flanagan the Kids baught in I strongly Believe that if your a Coach & your Succeeding & your Getting to the state games & winning a Championship I don't know to many schools Who won't Cut that check to Keep you. MAYBE the schools who don't care about athletics

Coaches win games, Administraions win state championships. Administraions give the green light for facility upgrades and new transfers (the nuts and bolts that build a quality program). Some coaches make more than others down here depending on the school. Like I said, you better have a strong Booster Club. Also, some coaches make very good money running their own camps and/or working college camps over summer. I've been saying for years that it's time for the Head coaches in Florida to open the eyes of the FHSAA to what other states pay their head coaches.

When I stated transferring at a high rate I'm just talking about from public to privates. Kids in Miami are transferring all the time from one public to another, but from public to privates it's not that big like Broward. Also, when talking about environments it's totally different. If your home school is Northwestern or Booker T. Washington and you attend Columbus you still going back home to Liberty City and Overtown. Crime rates, murders, homelessness, prostitutes, drug holes, living in slums, housing projects and attics will still be around. Somebody who's home school is Coral Gables or Miami Beach wouldn't go through a lot of this stuff. Now don't get me wrong upper-class neighbourhoods have issues as well just not as prevalent as the black ones.

FHSAA has nothing to do with a coaches salary, That is at the school board level and or the administration level. You are correct that it takes more than just a head coach, They need quality help from asst coaches to administrators and a high level booster club to raise extra money for equipment is always a good thing.

One thing I can say about Buckshot is the biggest reason he transferred to Carol City was he followed he's friends from Chaminade to Carol city which he played with at PPO.... I know this because one of the players he transferred with to Carol city I had to personally have my mom sign a paper stating that she is a catholic and she basically was the grandmother of the child which Chaminade gave the kid a discounted price to attend Chaminade... It was a favor for a good friend of mines... Lol.... But I think the 7 on 7 teams play a role too hence I think that's why the db from btw last year transferred to STA ..... Broward transferred been happening since I was playing dade n broward and I don't think it's us locals that's complaining and trust me it's notice in dade too...

As opposed to kids attending say AHP that return home to Pompano, Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale (Green Mile, Sistrunk etc..), Deerfield Beach, Dania, and Pembroke Park etc...? Similar environment and circumstances.

Are you saying a kid is less likely to attend a private coming from a poor and/or crime infested neighborhood in Dade versus Broward?

I think the only and true reason BTW and Central get the best public to public transfers is because they are favored to win State Championships-  almost every year. Columbus just happens to play in the hardest class in the State to win a Championship.  Had Columbus won 8A States back to back years, I bet they would be even stronger today and would attract even more talent.  It does not matter Public or Private.  Kids want to win now.

The Coach that masters the art of  building (rare these days) has generally been a proven winner in youth football for starters, builds relationships, understands the boosters process, 7 v 7s, camps and combine games. Successful HCs sometimes also need to be the GM and Director of Operations as well.  Many wise coaches simply surround themselves with assistants/staff that help out with all of the above as well... -  which kind of leads into what CARONE was explaining/stating earlier in this string.

I'll disagree with that Broward.... It's a different animal in dade... These kids ain't going to Columbus even if they did won back to back... When you at the parks or barbershops n these things get brought up you don't here kids talking bout going to Columbous .... One thing with thes me dade kids coaches and followers , they are stubborn and they rather try to beat a Columbous or STA or Belen gulliver AHP etc....you have some like me that would send my kids to a STA or AHP if my kids was a stud....

I hear you ZoeBoy....perhaps the parents/kids hanging out at barbershops and parks in Broward just try to take advantage of different options. I'm not saying one choice is right or wrong but it sounds like what you are saying is you could move Columbus right in between BTW and Central, yet still many elite athletes still would not attend because there is a stubborn factor. To each his own.

I think with Miami it has a lot to do with pride. The barbershop I go to is in Miami Gardens and except for one or two people everybody else went to Carol City and they take so much pride in they school. Another thing is history. Carol City been black or majority black since the 70's and Central. Northwestern and Booker T. Washington are historically black. Anyways parents want there kids to play for the school they went to and tradition. You have 5-3 generations attending the same school like Northwestern which has been up since 1955 and before the kids went to Dorsey. Now your talking about kids who wanna play for their school and neighborhood. Why do you all think when certain schools play everybody and they momma come out. Central/Northwestern, Central/Booker T. Washington, Northwestern/Carol City, Northwestern/Booker T. Washington and Northwestern/Jackson rivalry at its best.

Football and hometown pride speaking I understand their perspective. Hopefully these are not the same proud (of their school) parents that could be complaining in 5 years their kids never had an opportunity at a great education....

Generally the building of a team happens in rural areas bc they Dont have to compete to get talent with 30 different schools

ALOT of Good points here I'm actually learning A lot I have a question tho so what is a booster club?? Is it funded by the ALUMNI of The School?? & if So how Do establish a stronger booster Club because Look At Dillard 1 of the most historic Schools in Florida COLLEGE like Campus Known For There Basketball football & performing Arts So Why has it been hard for them to establish Dominance in you Guys Opinion?

@Mighty_Dillard_Panthers I think Dillard people just don't come together. I'mma use Northwestern as an example. Northwestern always show out when they do something or win something. For their 60th celebration Northwestern did a church service at New Birth and throughout the whole church all you saw was blue and gold. Football from 2006-2008 the bulls brought tons of people to Orlando and I believe about 5,000 people went with them to Texas when they played Carroll. Other instances still with football were the Orange Bowl and Soul Bowl days. I remembered Northwestern playing Central and Northwestern side was packed. Central was deep as well but not like Northwestern. I never attended any of the classic 90's games, but against Jackson you talking about record numbers 0f 20,000 and up. One year 47,000 people showed up. Now obviously not all Northwestern but half of that is darn good. I'm always browsing around being nosy and on different alumni sites you'll see comments saying as much as I hate or we hate are rival Northwestern they're always on point and don't play. I personally think Northwestern does so well because there alumni and community actually wanna do things and they have the right people in place. Who's your alumni president, do you go to the alumni meetings, do you pay your annual dues, does the alumni do alumni activities like dances, beach parties, tailgating and showing up to football games and so fourth. If none of these things are done or some why not you voice your opinion and get something started or help our what's already started.

    • Welcome to the new wonderful wild west of high school football in Florida. We need to create a new position at each school. Recruiting coordinator. Because that is the only way to win big in this state now at the highest levels. The haves can turn into have not by losing one cheater coach.
    • There are zero coaches on campus, every single coach left
    • There is 1,750 kids in the school. That would be their fault if they can’t field a team of 40-50 players. I know it sucks about the mass exodus. I get it. But even though they won’t be competitive for the time being they should at least have enough varsity players returning, JV kids, and newcomers to field a team.    They should have had an assist at coach resume spring workouts, and maybe got in on a jamboree with lesser teams or held an inter squad scrimmage. But to cancel everything seems a bit erratic
    • From 2018-2021 when Dillard was one of the top 5 teams in broward we got there because on the beginning we schedule within our actual talent on the field, we showed success that we are atleast a avg program being able to take care of business against avg and below avg teams. And with the right personnel we can become above avg and actually contend.    and with that came a undefeated regular season in 2019 with a regional final birth, a undefeated COVID season in 2020 and a Fri county championship and a 1 loss season in 2021 and a second round exit on the road to homestead.    dillard has to get back to that. But scheduling central, chaminade , sta and etc of back dropping each game by 40 is not gonna help the program.    you can say “aye atleast we scheduled them we didn’t back down” like I’ve said several times on here lol. but there’s no moral victories in football. You either won or you lost.
    • I wouldn’t say okay with it because wether they was on the schedule or not I’m bleeding blue & gray all day ready for smoke with which ever team were lining up across.    but as a former player & coach I also understand that when you’re a second year head coach taking over a program that haven’t seen a deep playoff run since 2019 and over the last 5 years they’ve played chaminade 5 times (0-5), norland once (1-0) Central once (0-1) gibbons once (0-1) & on top of that you have a mass exodus of players after the coach before you left ; you have to build your program back up to a contending program before you try to schedule the big dogs of south Florida.    for EX: last year Dillard at STA, GIBBONS & chaminade on the schedule went (0-3) and each lost was by over 20+ the sta loss was 58-0. But those games had to be played because of the last year of the contract.
